It will be okay. Don’t worry. How many times have you heard that? Does it actually help? I am on a journey that feels to my core as my purpose. To be able to help people. I know that every job exists because they have been created for the main purpose of solving a problem. Naturally, everyone who has a job, helps people.

However, I mean, helping people on a personal level. Helping them deal with themselves. Being in a position to empower people to feel better, overcome their pain and realise they can achieve so much more by creating belief, self-worth, confidence and motivation. Because if you do nothing what will change?

Having spent my whole life working for someone else, being employed, all I know is being told what to do and their expectations of what I need to do to be successful in their eyes, to the point where they are happy to keep paying me.

Over time, I found myself bored, uninterested, felt unappreciated, undervalued and ignored. I have so much value to offer, so many great ideas, however if you work for someone who doesn’t listen to you. Doesn’t take the time to get to know you, doesn’t value who you are as a person, then perhaps you are not in the right job.

Despite having successful moments and working with some great people, upon reflection I still felt like a number. Sure, when everything is going well, you’ll have a smaller number, you’ll get higher in the rankings, however if there is a slip or unmet expectation you soon realise that you will drop down the list. It is very similar to professional football. They are only interested in the present, in the now. The only people who are interested in your past achievements are your fans, friends and family, not your boss. There will always be a point, where despite your best efforts, people begin to forget and before you know it you are battling relegation, leading to your pending sack or resignation.

I got tired of it all. Working hard, creating new ways of working, saving money, making money, developing people, having huge achievements only to be met with the same feelings as mentioned above. This was my experience.

I decided to change and become self-employed, with the inner belief that I can help change the world, one person at a time. Backed with a few testimonials, confident and full of motivation what could go wrong?

I have not done it before. I have no experience. I have no clients. No social presence. No one knows who I am. No strategy. Oh fuck.

Then you tell yourself. It will be okay. Don’t worry. You got this.

Upon reflection was I stupid, was I naïve or perhaps I was brave? Honestly, I am not interested in your answers. Your opinion has no influence over how I feel or decisions I made.

My new realisation was, like most things, I had to learn. I had to make mistakes. I had to feel and experience the pain, the suffering and the not knowing. Why? Because my internal desire, my inner belief grows stronger with every lesson. I know this is what I am meant to do. I know this will be okay. I know things will work out.

Like most things in life, everything decision you make tends to be made by either your heart or your head. I was following my heart. I am still following my heart. However, unfortunately in life, that sometimes is not enough, especially in my experience so far.

Being a coach and trying to coach myself, I learnt something, a huge insight, a gamechanger…

I was trying to create a job for myself rather than a business. Oh fuck!

Is there a difference? Most definitely.

I have come to the realisation that I am treating being self-employed like a job and wondering why I have no clients. Noone to help. No income. I am failing and in doing so failing everyone that I am meant to be helping. Is it a surprise? Really? I mean I have no experience. No strategy. No funnel. No team. No Salary. No clue.

The only difference is when I look in the mirror, I do not feel any of those things. I know I will be successful. I know I can change your life. I know that if you work with me your life will dramatically improve for the better.

My challenge is my head is the complete opposite. Failure. Embarrassing. Disappointment. It was never going to work. Why did do you this?

Drowned in debt. Unable to pay any bills. Slowly working through family and friends to “lend” me money. Feels like rock bottom. No hope. No shinning knight. No one coming to the rescue. No light in my tunnel. Complete and utterly demoralising.

My head’s response. I am a Certified life coach though. I help people to overcome these challenges and help turn them into learning points, into opportunities, yet why would anyone want my help if I can’t help myself?

My heart’s response. Because it is not about you.

How does my story continue? It will be okay. Don’t worry.
