CEO, the acronym that everyone knows. Chief Executive Officer, the person that runs the show. I outline below how you don’t need to be running an official company to be a CEO, in fact, you should be striving to be the CEO of your own life.

Let’s start with what not to do. The first mistake is giving up your power to other people. Familiar with the concept of ‘seeking external validation’? This habitual behaviour keeps people dependent on their external reality for validation before taking any type of action. Whether that is what they should wear for a night out or to quit the job they have been in for 10 years to chase after their dreams. The second mistake that is keeping people from becoming the CEO of their own life is playing small and conforming to societal norms. The traditions, timelines, expectations, gender norms and arbitrary milestones. These timelines of when your baby should start doing certain steps to when you should be married, settling down and having a stable job keeps people from taking risks let alone living a life created by their own design. When you allow these two behaviours to infiltrate your life it will slowly but surely keep you playing small. It will keep you safe and in your comfort zone where only so much growth can be experienced. The chances of you being born were approximately one in four trillion and you’re letting the path that was mapped out for you before you were old enough to have an opinion dictate your life? Not anymore. Let’s dive into how to become the CEO of your own life:

1. Get real with your finances

Money's not everything. Money does not bring you happiness. However, money does give you choices and opportunities to make the dwelling tasks of life much easier.

Finances is one of the biggest contributors to depression, stress, and divorce therefore it is worth getting control of and here’s some examples of how to in this article 5 Things To Disaster-Proof Your Finances.

2. Invest in yourself

The moment you decide to invest in yourself is the moment you decide to bet on you. You now have some skin in the game and accountability is one of the best ways to

ensure you will show up. Whether that is a gym membership, working with a coach and/or mentor, attending a retreat or becoming part of a community that supports self-development. Investing in yourself is the mere prioritization of your well-being.

3. Implement healthy boundaries

Boundaries are not to cut people off. Boundaries are to bring you closer together with those around you but in a way that demonstrates self-respect. Boundaries encourage healthy communication and the more you are an advocate for yourself the more people will respond in a way that reflects the standards that have been set.

4. Strengthen your self-trust

Intentionally strengthen your self-trust. When you say you are going to do something, do it. Those intuitive nudges that you feel in your gut? Do not turn a blind eye to them, instead act on it. The more you strengthen your relationship with your intuition the stronger your self-trust will become and you will be more confident in how you show up in your day-to-day life.

5. Be an advocate for change in your life

Start to live your life in seasons. Some seasons are chaotic, some calm, some you are thriving and some are for heartbreak and healing. However, nothing is going to stay the same forever. This includes relationships. Some relationships, jobs and roles are meant to come into our life to teach us a lesson. You do not need to stay in something just because that is all you have ever known. This also applies if you have finally achieved your goal yet it no longer excites you. I am here to give you permission to make a change.

Understand that ready is not a feeling, it is a decision. The moment you decide you are here to reinvent yourself and become the CEO of your own life is the moment you will change the trajectory of your life.
