Today, as I am embarking on the outlooks of what I call the word “Freedom,” it just so coincidentally happens that I am on a cruise vessel called Freedom. The irony is somewhat peculiar. However, as I am writing this, and as people go by watching me type away my thoughts and feelings on the word subject Freedom, everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, but I am faced with probably the most difficult decision that any child has to make regarding our loved ones who are slowly declining due to age and mental diseases.

Woman with brown hair and bangs smiles slightly, wearing a green blouse and black blazer. Plain light background. Mood is calm and professional.

The one disease that I am referencing is Parkinson’s Disease. Unfortunately, this disease attacks the neurological transmitters in our head, in layman's terms, that is a slow decline of having access to your neuro thought patterns. What could be affected is motor skills, allowing the body to tell the brain when to move and when not to move. Now, the situation that my dad and I have been dealing with is that my stepmom has Parkinson’s. Therefore, the medications that the medical doctors and neurologists have prescribed only work for a short time to allow the cognitive abilities to function properly. This is where the mental toll takes not only on the patient going through the disease, but it also has a major impact on the person caring for the individual.

First, salutations my story, my name is Dr. Whitney Evenchik I have my PhD in Holistic Nutritional Medicine. Now, I am not against prescribing drugs to patients with any sort of health condition, what I am against is the overuse and dependence on the drugs that are prescribed to patients with medical conditions. Therefore, allowing the patient to succumb to the consequences of not allowing the brain to function normally with deep-brain stimulation exercises. I call this the “Band-aid” fix, where temporarily you will receive some relief, but it’s not completely effective or lasts long enough to benefit from the release.

Deep brain stimulation cognitive therapy will retrain the brain to what it had become co-dependent on the Dopamine, “doping the brain” and forcing it to function normally again. An Excellent example is when you’re teaching your child how to walk for the first time, now your child has become your parent, and you are teaching them how to walk yet again. When you allow your brain to become lazy that is where problems will occur, we need constantly stimulate the brain, to maintain normalcy throughout our life so we can keep utilizing what God had intended for us to have.

The mental pull on a loved one can be tremendous and psychologically draining all at the same time. One of my helpful ways of viewing life is the “re-wiring” of your brain to help you only view positive obstacles vs. negative ones. Functioning in a normal positive capacity will keep you focused on the journey you have regarding any medical turmoil you are dealing with when with a loved one. To get to the level of letting your brain relax and observe rather than jumping into a chaotic format can keep your mind at ease and handle the problems with efficiency rather than inefficiency.

Let us venture to that word “Freedom” again, I’m talking about your Freedom as the caregiver, let that sink in. Are you Free? Not necessarily, but keep in mind you oversee your thought patterns, what you speak and say is what you are putting out in the universe. You need to take deep breaths and know your journey might not necessarily be Free right now, but you can at least tease your mind to remain calm while you focus on breathing and functioning to deter those negative thought waves that can travel through the neurotransmitters. The trick is to remain calm! Once you have mastered the ability to handle tricky situations, then you know you are considered free.

Parkinson’s has many stages to it, and for those with loved ones in the 1st stage, start out with cognitive therapy, because as the disease progresses through the different stages of Parkinson’s the brain will be slowly deteriorate along. Unfortunately, I haven’t studied the effects of holistic healing, and medical doctors won’t mention this form of healing, they will deter you from it because their job is to keep you stuck and doped up, so you keep coming back for more. Your main drug dealer, unfortunately, is your Pharmacist.
