Shaolin One Finger Zen Medical Qigong (Wai Qi Liao Fa) is a specialized branch of Qigong developed and practiced by Shaolin monks, focusing on healing and cultivating physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. It combines ancient Chinese medicine principles, martial arts training, and meditative practices.

The goal of Shaolin One Finger Zen Medical Qigong is to regulate the flow of Qi (life energy) within the body, remove blockages, and restore balance for optimal health and vitality. The primary way this is achieved is through the use of standing stake or dynamic static postures designed to target specific organs and arteries, sensitizing the practitioner to their own blood flow. This practice is often referred to as Zhan Zhuang Neigong.

The methodology of Shaolin One Finger Zen Medical Qigong combines both Shaolin and Luohan (Lohan) standing postures to maximize the sensitivity of the nervous system and internal awareness of blood flow. This is achieved by activating the meridians and nervous system through specific combinations of bending the joints of the fingers to pull blood and lymph through the body and organs as a conditioning method. Over time, a practitioner learns the nuances of what level and kind of Qi is being cultivated in the body for personal healing or for use on others during in-person or long-distance healing sessions.

Qi (pronounced ‘chee’) is the life energy that flows through pathways in the body known as meridians. Qi can be likened to the energy of the electrons that hold atoms in their specific structures. When Qi flows freely, a person is healthy and balanced. Blockages or imbalances in Qi are believed to lead to illness or discomfort. Qi healing emphasizes restoring harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. This often involves balancing the Yin (passive, cool, and nurturing energy) and Yang (active, warm, and motivating energy) forces within the body.

The practice of Wai Qi Liao Fa is rooted in the foundational principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including the concepts of meridians (energy channels), Yin-Yang balance, and the five elements.

Training in Wai Qi Liao Fa focuses on cultivating the practitioner’s internal Qi, developing the ability to project that Qi externally, and refining sensitivity to detect and manipulate another person’s energy field. The practitioner intentionally emits their own cultivated Qi to the recipient. This Qi is directed to specific areas of the recipient’s body to address blockages, imbalances, or deficiencies in their energy system.

Qi healing looks at the person as a whole, addressing not just physical symptoms but also emotional, mental, and spiritual factors. In most cases, the practitioner does not physically touch the recipient. Instead, they use their hands or focused intention to guide energy flow from a distance. Practitioners assess the recipient’s energy state and apply specific techniques to harmonize Qi.

Qi healing helps to alleviate stress and anxiety, enhance energy levels and vitality, improve circulation, promote detoxification, relieve pain and physical discomfort, as well as support overall physical and emotional well-being.

Here is what one client had to say:

"I want to express my gratitude for the healing experience I had with Shaolin energy distance healing by Sifu Kelly Whelan-Enns. After fracturing my foot, I was experiencing a lot of pain and facing a long recovery process. However, the healing sessions I received from Sifu Kelly seemed to have a remarkable effect in a very short time. I experienced an unexpected and significant reduction in pain almost immediately after he began the work, which surprised me. It is difficult to measure such an intangible as energy healing, however, I had a particular experience unusual enough that any question of the efficacy of the healing session was completely diminished. His dedication and compassion were evident, and his genuine care throughout the process was demonstrated each day. Shaolin energy distance healing has been of great and supportive benefit and has contributed to my well-being and healing. I recommend Sifu Kelly’s services to anyone seeking a holistic and powerful approach to healing.” – Darlene Tataryn
