(Based on the chapter from “The Secret Million Dollar Paradigm")

When I first came across this concept of the decision train, I was completely blown away. It’s such a simple concept and a great strategy to help you override your paradigms.

Most people aren’t achieving to the level that they can and are living a life of regret and frustration. Most people make their decisions based on feeling or their current results, not what’s best for them. If they don’t feel like working hard, they don’t. If they don’t feel like working out, they don’t. If they don’t feel like getting out of bed when the alarm goes off, they don’t... and so on. They base their decisions on how they are feeling and then the action is to do nothing. This sets up a cycle of negative feelings, lack of action and poor decisions. It’s a self-perpetuating cycle of being stuck. (Peter Voogds, founder of Gamechangers Academy)

If you want things to change, you have to base things on your decisions. Start basing things from your standards, your visions, and your goals, rather than current circumstances or your feelings. If you don’t feel like waking up in the morning, you have to override this (this is your old conditioning, your paradigm).

You made the decision to get up early so when the alarm goes off, you take action and get out of bed. Then you get to experience the feeling of greatness because you followed through. It’s the same with going to the gym. I don’t always feel like going. But I made the decision to work out, whether I feel like it or not. I take action and go and then I get to feel awesome.

If you only do what you feel like, you aren’t going to do very much. If you want to be successful on your terms, you have to make decisions and take action regardless of how you feel. That’s a committed decision and you’ll feel amazing afterwards. Get addicted to the feeling you get after you’ve completed something.

Taking action provides results. Different results to what you are experiencing right now. Make a decision to increase your productivity, to take action and override the paradigms that are keeping you stuck where you are. Make your decisions based on who you want to become. Once you have the feeling of accomplishment and reward from taking action, it becomes easier to take the actions as you form a new habit. This creates a new paradigm that’s in alignment with the success you desire.

It’s the decisions you make daily that determine your reality.

Never make decisions when you are tired, hungry, frustrated or lonely. I only make decisions when I am in a right state of mind.” – Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post

Take a look at your life right now. In the areas of your relationships, your health, your work, your finances, your hobbies, anything. Where are you procrastinating?

What decisions do you need to make for yourself to move forward?

Successful people make decisions quickly (as soon as the facts are available, and change them very slowly if ever), Unsuccessful people make decisions very slowly and change them often and quickly.” – Napoleon Hill

Let’s take this deeper. There are two types of decisions – being interested and being committed. I love this quote by Dr Kenneth Blanchard: “There is a difference between being interested in creating the life that we want and being committed. When we are interested, we do what is convenient, when we are committed, we do whatever it takes, we accept only results, not excuses.”

If you feel like you’ve made a committed decision to achieve something and you haven’t achieved it, there may be a couple of things going on for you.

The decision may have been made in the intellectual part of your mind, but your subconscious part of your mind, where your self-image resides, doesn’t believe you can achieve it (This is your paradigm kicking in). As a result, you sabotage yourself or don’t actually commit to the decision. You haven’t mixed the decision with the feeling and belief that it’s truly possible for you to achieve.

This is why working on your self-image (concept of yourself) is so important.

Having experienced this myself, I know that you must work on the confidence within. And it’s not what other people see on the outside. You may hear comments from others that you are confident, amazing and brilliant at what you do. However, if you don’t believe this in your core, then you won’t achieve what you really want and all the compliments will slide off like Teflon.

Lack of belief and faith will keep you from making the decisions that will propel you forward. It’s the internal voice in your head that actually creates the results in your life. If it’s not serving you, and you aren’t getting the results you want, then some changes need to be made. The first step is to make the decision to change. Then commit to yourself that you’ll make the internal changes and do the work on yourself. When you begin, the changes start showing up in your environment and the results will begin to change.
