Already around 500 years B.C. Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, claimed “Change is the only constant in life”. Change seems inevitable and our reaction to it may be far from being cool. Especially work-related change may trigger feelings of anxiety and lack of security. Here are some ideas on how to work on an inner sense of security despite all odds.

1. Continuous professional development

Change is a natural part of life. Changing seasons, or changing market demands all this is a part of life. One of the best ways to embrace change is a flexible and open mindset. One of the most efficient ways to take care of our market value as an employee or entrepreneur is to continuously take care of all value-related topics as the continuous development of our soft and technical skills. Learning does not have to be boring or tiring nowadays. There are many possible settings for every learning type ‒ visual, kinesthetic, or auditory. There is more than enough to choose from – starting from audiobooks to real-life training events. Also, a wide range of selections is offered regarding content and price, not to mention free online content.

2. Ability to create learning experiences

Failure or disappointment are excellent possibilities to reflect on conclusions and lessons learned. What went well and what did not succeed and why? Such questions are crucial for building a future success story. Try not to focus too much on self-doubts, instead, use challenging, disappointing situations to get more clear about your priorities, preferences, goals, and deadlines.

3. The power of network

Stay in touch with former colleagues and avoid burning bridges. The possibility to track updates and changes in our career path may lead to a job offer or other interesting opportunities. Be excited about somebodies growth and success as the same attitude may come back to you as a genuine reflection of your way of interacting with others. Keep your online profiles on platforms like LinkedIn updated, as recruiters and headhunters are searching for specific keywords, cities, postal codes, etc. – all this is crucial to be found by the right people able to offer you the right dream job.

4. Updated resume

If I could collect one penny every time I heard from my coaches they did not expect setting up a new resume or digital application folder would take so much time… Writing down a professional, up-to-date resume or preparing a whole digital application folder, including a portfolio takes more time than the majority of us assume. Clearing out doubts related to relevant soft or technical skills, listing relevant activities from the past, collecting the most interesting letters of recommendation, etc., etc. All this usually takes more time than we think, especially if we do it for the first time. It is worth doing at least some of the work upfront otherwise, it can be challenging to prepare a professional resume or digital application folder in a short time if we are suddenly asked for it.

Security is nothing that can be obtained by controlling the outside world. It is more a mindset, ability, and skill, an inner sense of knowing that we can handle any situation that may come up. Those 4 mentioned ideas surely help to reach that more peaceful approach to all professional topics no matter what changes appear in the outside world. I wish you all success!
