Bethany Donovan is a licensed psychotherapist (LMHC, LPC) and certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP) in Virginia and Washington state, USA.
Bethany is a veteran of the United States Air Force and Operation Enduring Freedom, including one tour in Kandahar, Afghanistan. She is experienced in military culture and family life and as such, also has a passion for serving military members, veterans, and their families.
After serving in the military, Bethany embarked upon the journey of becoming a psychotherapist, which included many years of undergraduate and graduate school, internship, postgraduate training, and testing.
Bethany obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Sofia University in Palo Alto, CA. She completed her internship at the Chesapeake Correctional Facility in Chesapeake, VA and then proceeded to work in community mental health clinics and nonprofits for just over three years before moving into group and private practice.
Bethany has undergone extensive training, education, and experience working with individuals of all ages with PTSD and complex PTSD through EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and other trauma-specific therapeutic interventions, including DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy).
She has many years’ experience working with underprivileged and underserved populations, such as the incarcerated, homeless, and impoverished individuals. As a follower of Jesus Christ, she has a fervent passion for serving humanity, helping to heal the sick, walk alongside the brokenhearted, and love those who feel invisible and unlovable.
She believes that our spiritual beliefs are a crucial part of healing and can be an unparalleled source of strength in times of hardship. Bethany is also dedicated to helping people recover and reclaim their faith after religious abuse and trauma.
This passion for helping others was born out of her own experiences and enduring a multitude of hardships spanning the course of her life, which include many of the struggles that she now helps others to overcome and heal from. Enduring her own traumas, crises of faith, and times of desperation informed Bethany’s profound empathy for those enduring their own trials and traumas.
Bethany is a firm believer in posttraumatic growth, recovery, and the ability for each and every person to heal and transform given the right information, guidance, and support; she has a strong passion for helping people heal from their pasts so that they might move from surviving into thriving and build a life that they feel is worth living. She is a lover of humanity and God, and is honored to be part of the healing and recovery process for hundreds of individuals.
