  • Karen Joan Day, Registered Nurse, Health Coach, and Educator, Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine

Karen Day – A Journey of Discovery and Healing From a young age Karen Day felt a calling to help others. Growing up in Saskatchewan, she was surrounded by a community that valued care and compassion, traits that would later define her career in healthcare. Her journey into nursing began in 1993, driven by a desire to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Litte did she know, this path would lead her to explore the depths of human biology and the intricacies of chronic pain. Karen’s early years in nursing were spent in various healthcare settings, including the bustling emergency room of the Pasqua hospital in Regina. It was here; in 2007 her professional and personal worlds collided. Her father, a pillar of strength in her life, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. This heart-wrenching experience ignited a relentless pursuit of understanding the true cause of disease and the body’s response to illness. In 1996, as nurses, we were introduced to the ambitious goal set forth by the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1978. This declaration, endorsed by health ministers from 134 countries in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, aimed to establish primary healthcare as a key strategy. The goal was to achieve a level of health that would allow everyone to lead socially and economically productive lives by the year 2000. When this fell short, this unfulfilled pledge sparked Karen’s curiosity and determination to seek answers beyond conventional medicine. Her quest led her to the ground-breaking work of Dr. med. Ryke Geerd Hamer and German New Medicine (GNM). This biological-based science offered a revolutionary perspective on the relationship between emotions, biological responses, and disease. Karen’s dedication to GNM was not just professional but deeply personal. She, too, battled chronic pain, an experience that fueled her empathy and understanding for those she aimed to help. Through GNM, Karen learned that symptoms were not merely ailments to be treated but stories to be understood. This realization transformed her approach to health and wellness, emphasizing the importance of uncovering the root causes of pain. As a health coach and educator, Karen’s mission is to empower individuals and health professionals with the knowledge and tools to decode the body’s messages. Her work focuses on chronic pain, a condition that affects millions yet is often misunderstood. By teaching others to listen to their bodies and recognize the signs and symptoms, Karen provides and pathway to healing that is both holistic and transformative. Karen’s commitment to her craft in unwavering. She has spent countless hours studying, teaching, and advocating for a new perspective on health. Her approach is genuine and real, reflecting her personal journey and the challenges she has overcome. Through workshops, seminars, and one-on-one coaching, Karen shares her insights and experiences, inspiring other to embark on their own journeys of discovery and healing. Her story is one of resilience, curiosity, and compassion. It is a testament to the power of knowledge and the importance of understanding the body’s innate wisdom. Karen Day is not just a registered nurse or a health coach; she is a beacon of hope for those seeking answers and a guide for those ready to explore the root causes of their pain. • Soraya Shaw, Applied Organisational Neuroscientist, Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine

Soraya Shaw MSc is the founder of BrainShaw®, one of the UK's first Applied Organisational Neuroscientists, a keynote speaker, strategic thinking partner, author and co-host of Brainy Podcasts. After more than two decades leading international teams and global brands in advertising, marketing and leadership development, Soraya became fascinated by a question that would shape the next chapter of her career: why do people think, decide and respond so differently when faced with the same challenges? That curiosity led her to study Applied Organisational Neuroscience, combining commercial leadership experience with the science of the human brain to help leaders and organisations navigate uncertainty, strengthen judgement and build the human capabilities that technology cannot replace. Today, through BrainShaw®, Soraya explores how human capability is becoming the defining competitive advantage of the 21st century. Her work spans Brain Capital, leadership cognition, organisational culture, hybrid intelligence and the human implications of artificial intelligence, helping leaders prepare for a future where technology is advancing faster than our understanding of ourselves. Her work extends beyond the boardroom. She is the co-host of Brainy Podcasts, where she explores the science behind leadership, behaviour and future minds; founder of Authentic Beauty, Brains & Confidence, celebrating women's evolving brains and confidence across life; and author of The Brainy Brains of Mindsville®, a children's series introducing brain literacy through imaginative storytelling to help young minds understand their unique strengths from an early age. Whether speaking to CEOs, leadership teams, educators or parents, Soraya's work is united by one belief: technology will continue to evolve, but human capability will determine whether people, organisations and society flourish alongside it. Her mission is simple: to prepare human intelligence for the next century. Morgana Lakatos-Hayward is a former 2x World Latin Champion with over 20 years of a highly competitive dancing background. Her struggles with dieting and weight loss, resulting in eating disorders, body dysmorphia, adenomyosis, and weight gain, were the primary fuel which prompted her career change over to health coaching. Upon getting certified at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition, she opened her virtual health coaching practice, This Isn't a Diet, which operates in the women's health space to challenge diet culture and teach women about their bodies, intuitive and non-restrictive eating, as well as three important pillars: Hormonal health, gut health and blood sugar balancing. Through her own experience, as well as seeing results in the numerous women she has worked with, she built a philosophy around non-restrictive bio individual eating, which entails that everyone's body requires different foods and nutrients to thrive. Morgana also centers her work around maintaining balance through the body's various systems to combat symptoms and find the root cause of problems her clients come to her with. She furthered her reach by starting her podcast, Listen to This When You're Done Dieting, available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Her new book, Read This When You're Done Dieting, will shortly be released and details her philosophy surrounding weight loss and women's health.
