- How To Spend 80% Less Time In Your Business (Read This If You're Feeling Overwhelmed)
Written by: Jamie Kullman , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. There's so much to do as a business owner, especially if you've found yourself doing everything inside your business. Often being a "solopreneur" is glamorized, but the truth is being self-employed was never the goal, yet it's the outcome of overworking and not knowing when to cut ties with the non-essential. You envision a life where you're in control of your schedule. Not because you're your own boss, but because you know exactly where you need to show up each day to get into a “flow” state. It's time to figure out what 20% of tasks you should be focusing on and which 80% can be automated, delegated, or eliminated immediately. Let's begin by determining the 20% of tasks you SHOULD be focused on each day. We will call these: zone of impact, delegation, admin, and profit-generating activities. 1. Zone Of Impact: this is the area of your business you would never want to outsource, it's the stuff that lights you up and typically why you started your business in the first place. For me, my zone of impact is speaking, coaching, and creating digital assets. What is your zone of impact? (L isten to this podcast episode if you need more help finding yours! ) 2. Delegation: As a business owner you should dedicate time each day to delegating powerfully so your team has systems and processes to follow. Next time you start on a project ask yourself, "Can I document the process I would have done to complete this task and assign it to a team?" It may take time to get into this habit, but once you do you are going to remove yourself from ever doing the task again in the future! Most importantly you must realize that there is a mindset shift that must occur to shift from CEO to business owner and much of that is understanding how to delegate correctly and set systems up for your team to follow, without you. 3. Admin: There are certain admin tasks that you may still need to be a part of assuming you don't have a team who handles this. These tasks should be started by you, but can often be delegated to a personal assistant. I would still set aside time each week to ensure these are being handled properly. 4. Profit Generating: There are some tasks you must complete to ensure your business is profitable. Maybe it's setting up a new lead generation system or coming up with a new DM script, this time is allotted to making your profit-generating activities more efficient and allows your team to handle more of the workload. Many times it's not actually about you taking on more of the tasks. Remember why you started your business and what you do inside of it that lights you up. That's the main place you should be showing up and you shouldn't feel guilty about cutting yourself loose from the other aspects, just know that it's vital to replace yourself before you do this. Now, let's take a minute and determine what 80% of tasks should be automated, delegated, and eliminated completely. Step 1: Make a list of the things you do each day and each week inside your business Step 2: Write A (automate), D (delegate), E (eliminate), Z (zone of impact - items found above) next to each item you find here. Step 3: Take action, streamline and flow. ELIMINATE: Anything with an E you can cross off immediately and it's up to you to stick to your guns and stop doing these tasks starting today. I recommend setting an alarm on your phone that pops up every few hours saying "am I inventing things to avoid the important?" Oftentimes these tasks that should be eliminated are just busywork. This can include things like checking email, getting the mail, doing laundry, etc. Maybe things you can scale back to once per week? ZONE OF IMPACT: This stuff is your jam, keep doing it. AUTOMATE: Here is where the fun begins. You can start creating workflows or systems that make the task automated. For example; client onboarding could be automated with a CRM platform removing your time from the equation, scheduling meetings can be streamlined using a calendar scheduler and you can even add confirmation emails and forms to make your process smooth. Spend some time researching a good automation source that will make this a breeze and remove your time from the task moving forward, this can usually be done without bringing on a team. DELEGATE: Here I'd take some time and document how you would usually take on a project, then assign it to a team member to take it over from here on out. Make sure you're very specific so it's easy for them to follow through! Note; many times it's a delegation problem if the ball is getting dropped within your organization, take time to learn how to delegate effectively to avoid this problem! If you can start to spend less time inside your business and more time in your zone of impact you’re going to start experiencing greater growth, fulfillment, and impact while eliminating the non-essential. Talk about giving yourself freedom and an opportunity for work-life flow. That, my friends, is what being a business owner is all about. It’s not figuring out what other things you should be doing, it’s figuring out what other things you shouldn’t be doing. Then not doing them anymore. - 5 Tips To Beat The Lockdown Blues
Written by: Jodie Konstantin , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. It's normal during the uncertain times of lockdown to feel upset, anxious, and angry especially when you feel there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Being stuck in lockdown can drain your energy and take a toll on the mindset of even the most positive of people. Mental health is top of mind these days. If not yourself I feel it's safe to say someone you know is struggling with their mental health in the current times. So what can we do to grab the bull by the horns so we are not just getting by but thriving to make the most of our time? 1. Focus on what you can control – switching our focus on what we can control gives us back our power. Bringing it back to our bubble... Start with you!!! when you fly on a plane the flight attendant instructs you to "put your mask on first" before helping others because if you run out of oxygen yourself you can't help anyone else. The one thing we can control is ourselves by becoming more aware of our needs, feelings, and emotions. Make a list of things that you can do to smile and find joy when the lockdown blues come to town. 2. Take breaks from the news and technology – while it can be good to keep up to date with current affairs constantly feeling fear and overwhelm can not only add to our mental health but also our immune system. Stress, anxiety, fear, depression are just some emotions people feel when consuming too much negative information. Giving yourself a break from the news, having a social media detox or switching up TV time to jump on YouTube and watching some funny videos, learning a new skill or grab the fam for a funny flick to switch the flip and lighten the mood. 3. Journalling is a great tool for clearing the mind. There is a certain power behind getting your thoughts on paper. Journalling could be writing a diary,self-reflection, gratitude diary becoming aware of all the positives we have in our life can give us a real sense of happiness. Journalling is also great for our brain as most of us are typing away on our phones or computers and the most writing we do is a to-do list or our signature. Journalling engages several areas of our brain making it both like exercise for our brain and great for our mental health it's a win-win. 4. Exercise – It stimulates chemicals that improve your mood. We know exercise is great for our bodies but it has so many other benefits like boosting mood, improved sleep, reduce anxiety, depression and great for stress relief. No matter what your age or fitness level you can use exercise to improve your mindset. Get the kids involved, get out in nature and get the blood flowing you will thank yourself for it later. 5. Know yourself – I can write a long list of ways to improve your mindset, improve your mental health, depression, anxiety during these times but ultimately it's about you and what you need. Self-awareness is extremely important and maybe we even have to be grateful for covid as it has forced us to all slow down it can be scary to be left in our own heads but most of us have lost ourselves for years in the rat race of life not knowing our deepest fears and desires now we are being forced to face them. Write a list of the things that make you happy and bring you joy... Put on some music sing, dance, play Put your feet up and read Have a bath Learn to mediate Try an online class Do yoga Study something online Art Do all the things you wanted to do when you use to say "I wish I had more time to xyz" Most importantly remember it's okay not to be okay, reach out to loved ones and ask for help when you need it and offer it to others you are not alone and you do not need to suffer in silence. Connect as much as possible as Lionel Riche sings "Here we stand. Trying not to fall, There's no need to worry love will conquer all". - Transition – A New Role In A New Workplace
Written by: Paramita Debbarman Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. How to transition, settle down and grow – all at the same time Transitioning into a new role in a new workplace. First impression is not the last impression. However, the first impression is definitely an important impression. And how much more, when it is about joining a new organization, in a new role. A new workplace where it a new role, new boss, new team, new culture, new clients, new dynamics, new ways of working, and so on. Stepping into a new role in a new organization comes with mixed bag of emotions – excitement, anticipation, doubt, apprehension, curiosity, hope, and many more. The first few months are crucial in the new job, in the new organization, amongst new people, and in a new work environment. And action taken (or not taken) in these first few months can make (or break) the acceleration of one’s career growth. Here are a series of three 3s – 3 Traps, 3 Opportunities and 3 Tips. Traps: Watch out for these three traps that might distract you and subsequently hinder your contribution and growth. People joining new roles in new workplace tend of have such kind of disempowering self-talk: “Let me first learn the job and then I will explore what growth opportunities I can have here.” “Whether I like the job or not, I have to deal with it for the next 2 years before I can expect a change, or even ask for a change.” “I need to understand the culture, dynamics, and politics of the organization first before I can make any moves.” Opportunities: Time is of the essence. As people get to know you and you get to know them, every passing week is opportunities gained or lost. And the choice is yours. No past baggage – People do not know you yet. Therefore, there is no past baggage of perceptions from your previous workplace. You can define how and who you want to show up as. A new beginning – Bring out your ‘best strategic self’ which is an ‘even better version’ of you compared to who you were when your left your last workplace. Opportunity for speed with acceleration – A good and strategic start will define the speed and progress in climbing higher up the ladder. Tips: Keep the big picture in mind – about your new workplace, and about your career and your life. Gain understanding of where your organization is headed, your organization’s vision and mission. And also know where you are headed, your aspirations and desires. Add value – Be strategic in execution in providing value, and that too, as soon as possible. Be accountable – Hire a coach who will walk and work alongside you, in your journey of transition, settling down, and moving to the next level up. In this journey, at times you might feel overwhelmed or overworked. Allowing yourself to be accountable to your coach will help you keep the focus on where you ought to be heading. Hope this is helpful as you transition, settle down and grow in your new role in the new organization, all at the same time. - 3 Mistakes Leaders Make That Lead To A Poor Team Mindset
Written by: Christina Kelly, Guest Writer Brainz Magazine People are most likely to give their all to something when they truly feel as though they are a part of it. This is a trend that has been repeated throughout history. Think of how governments have encouraged young men and women to sign up to join the army, and even give their life away. They use terminology such as “give your life for your country,” which of course, is an incredibly noble and brave thing to do. Terminology like this also gets people in the mindset that they are a part of something bigger than just themselves - something much more beautiful and impactful than any of us can create on our own. Now, think of how this can relate to your team. By making them feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves, you encourage them to give their all in their job. The question is - how can you inspire this kind of attitude in your own company culture? If you promise to stick around until the end of this article, I promise to... Help you finally get clarity on the common mistakes you might not even know you’re making as the leader Give you one simple step you can take today in order to create a company culture that leaves a legacy There’s no time to waste - let’s dive right in! Mistake #1: Lack of Processes First of all - what is a process? The kind of process I am referring to here is a document where you outline the exact steps a team member needs to take in order to complete a task or project. Now - why is that important? Well, if you do not have your processes clearly outlined, it is all too easy for you and your team members to miscommunicate with each other. Lack of processes also causes… Missed deadlines and lost opportunities for important clients Mistakes that cost your team members time, which costs you money Frustration and overall lack of scalability As a business owner, you are used to having a general idea of what to do and then just running with it. But, your team members are not used to that, and they probably don’t want to do that, either. What they want is to understand how to succeed. And, without proper guidelines from you, they will not truly feel as though they are set up for success from you. When people feel as though they are not being well taken care of, they will work with more of a negative mindset. This energy will then take a toll on their work performance. As a result, they will end up making the kinds of mistakes mentioned above, and I know you don’t have time for that. So, just set aside some time to write out the basic steps that each team member needs to take in order to complete a task or project! Mistake #2: Lack of Trust from Their Leader It’s possible that micromanaging has become a habit that you’re not fully aware of. This is something that a lot of leaders do, and they think that it's the benefit of their team, but in reality, what you are doing is disempowering them. When your team does not feel like you fully trust them, it unconsciously makes them build resentment towards you and the work that they are doing. When your team is working in resentment, they are not able to deliver the high-quality work that your business needs in order to scale to new heights. The truth is that if you have the right person and the right processes in place, you shouldn’t have to micromanage your team in order to help your business thrive. Your team members may just be waiting on you to trust them and truly let them shine. This brings us to Mistake #3. Mistake #3: Lack of Space for Contribution I saved the best for last. To be more specific, this mistake is not allowing team members the opportunity to share their ideas. When team members do not feel they are safe to share their ideas, you lead them to be in the mindset that their contribution is not truly important. Read that again. Actually, I’ll just say it again. When team members do not feel they are safe to share their ideas, you lead them to be in the mindset that their contribution is not truly important. This is huge because this mistake not only negatively affects your team’s state of being but also your bottom line. So, let’s fix that! To start, just set aside time at the end of your meetings for new ideas to come forth. I have a feeling you’ll be surprised with what comes as a result! If you have made it to the end of this article, congratulations! You are in a better place than you were when you started. You have learned how to step into your power as a leader, and allow your team to step into their power as well. More than that, you now have a better understanding of your true responsibility. It is not just to help your business make more money. Rather, it is to set an example that creates a ripple effect in the lives of all those around you. Every little thing that you do creates a huge impact. This impact is not just on your customers or your bottom line, but also on the people who you are leading. By avoiding these mistakes, you are not only setting your organization up for success, but you are setting up each person on your team for success. This is what will truly enable you to leave a legacy you can forever be proud of. Follow Christina on Instagram and Facebook for more info! - The Birth Of A Dream – Are You Expecting?
Written by: Natasha Stephens , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise . Every one of you is a vessel to carry purpose created from the womb of your thoughts inspired by God that must carry your DNA, and must therefore be birthed only through you. Unfortunately many of us are barren, have aborted or miscarried. Every one of you is a vessel to carry purpose created from the womb of your thoughts inspired by God that must carry your DNA, and must therefore be birthed only through you. Unfortunately many of us are barren, have aborted or miscarried. In previous articles I've written, I have driven the point over and over that if you have breath, you have purpose. The issue is most people are unaware of that truth or they don't know how to pursue it. If you can destroy the belief that you are here by happenstance and believe that the God of all creation created you on purpose for purpose, then you are halfway there. Let's start with those who are barren. As it is with a mother bearing a child, conception starts with intimacy. Intimacy is required with the Creator to conceive your God given dream. I mentioned in previous articles how turning away from any form of media as a daily practice can create an environment conducive to fertilization of new ideas, witty inventions or concepts. Media derives from the word medium which is something that stands in between an object and the source. Media clutter can inundate the mind causing the possibility of those visions and dreams to be impenetrable. Some of you have dreams and visions but aborted it because life circumstances have been distractions for you as you have taken your attention off of your goals. Without focus and intentionality the dream dies. Others have miscarried by not cultivating it or giving it the proper nourishment for growth and development. This could be through procrastination, lack of patience, unbelief, fear or doubt. Whatever the case, visions and dreams reside within but don't get it confused, those were placed inside of you and did not come by your own accord. It came by way of the Father who created you with every intricate detail to reproduce what He knows this world needs. The world needs what's inside of you, so push that vision, dream or idea out no matter how difficult. There will be birth pains from difficulties, challenges and obstacles along the way, but after delivery you will see it was worth every push! We're rooting for you! Want to learn more from Natasha? - Who Am I – An Image, Identity Or A Being?
Written by: Santosh Naidu, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Namaste. Bonjour. Hola. Halo. Greetings! The summer Olympics continue to inspire us, this time around we celebrate the achievements of the specially-abled athletes; who with their wonderful performances demonstrated what it takes to really re-invent themselves to perform so brilliantly. As I said before we in India are at a cusp of sporting renaissance, the past couple of weeks we bagged the largest medal haul in the Paralympic games 19 medals with 5 Gold, 8 silver and 6 Bronze, outstanding achievement. A big shout out to all the participants for their inspiring accomplishments. “You fill every one of us with Aspiration and Hope” Today the 5th of September, we celebrate Teacher’s day in India and this is dedicated to everyone in my life who has been instrumental in my learning process. One of my teachers said to me “Unknown Forces, Unknown Sources” as a metaphor to point out that one can learn from anyone or any situation. Also, September marks the beginning of fall, the countryside is beautiful, and it’s a wonderful time to connect with nature. An early morning barefoot walk in the grass with dewdrops, the sound of birds chirping along with flowing water and a breath of fresh air is so uplifting. Add a mountain, a warm sunrise, the presence of a loved one and the feeling is that much more augmented. Later this week, I am off to the Holy Mountain to get spiritually recharged. What is it about nature that revitalises us or touches us at the core, our spirit? As I assured you all in July, I continue with my topic of wellbeing and this month the focus is on spiritual wellbeing. So let’s begin with the question: What is spirituality? A simple search on the internet renders us with multiple definitions but the one that I would indicate here is “the meaning of spirituality has developed and expanded over time, and various connotations can be found alongside each other”. In some parts of the world, there is a strong religious flavour associated with spirituality and what makes this definition special is its personal nature and that it is evolving. For me, it started with curiosity and after years of practice it’s that one essential element that’s made a substantial difference to my overall wellbeing, set me on the path to thrive. I believe the curiosity and subjectivity should prevail until each of us undergoes that intimate experience. An inward journey to realise and manage an ENERGY that is significantly influenced by the body, mind, climate, nutrition, a guide, a Guru or a Coach or a Teacher and our anatomy which includes the physical, chemical and biological aspects. Therefore it’s about a unique, complex system and its existence in the cosmos Impelled by the Universe, cultures have taken shape around the world which demonstrates the diversity in our methods and practices but what binds us all together is the way humans have been engineered, with an evolved system including the brain. The human brain is the most complex and advanced natural organ on the planet. What we call the brain is the physical organ and the mind is the mental equivalent. The brain can be touched, whereas, the mind cannot be touched, recognise them as two distinct components. Some cultures have discovered the understanding of this complex system over time and created specific practices after delving deep into the human composition. These set of practices have emerged as a confluence of physical and mental states, as a discipline to identify the inner energy and transcend beyond the bodily experience to achieve a state of Nirvana, Zen, a consciousness, a meditation to achieve the state of bliss, mindfulness that no external stimulant can provide. This specialisation is Yoga. Yoga in today’s world is quite synonymous with human wellbeing, has been practice in the eastern hemisphere of the globe for times immemorial. Several Gurus, Yogis, Monks and Saints have developed and passed on this knowledge over thousands of years and we see many disciplines of yoga in practice today. As per yogic culture there are up to 16 dimensions of the human mind and for ease of understanding I am highlighting them in 4 broad categories and they are: Buddhi: the intellect – that which powers our progress globally Ahankara: the identity – what we have come to identify ourselves as Manas: memory that which gives the species its edge, carried on from generation to generation (conscious memory, subconscious memory, genetic memory, etc.) Chitta: pure intelligence – that which is universal and that is beyond us The first three dimensions keep us in a cyclical mode in the state of samsara which translates to “the cycle of death and rebirth to which life in the material world is bound”. In order to go beyond this one needs guidance from someone enlightened and that is the Guru, or a teacher to show the path. As indicated above there are various disciplines and schools of Yoga today, millions around the world have benefitted from this. I am a student of this subject and imbibe all the knowledge I can get irrespective of the source. Following are a list of institutions I recommend: Sri Ramakrishna Mission (centres all over the world) Isha Yoga foundation (online) Ramana Ashrama (Tiruvannamalai, India) Sri Aurobindo Ashram (Auroville, Puducherry, India) Yogiville – (UK, India, and Croatia) All the places above are proficient in enabling your journey for learning and discovering one’s true self and purpose beyond the materialistic world. These are places that have helped me in my spiritual journey that started when I was a child <5 years old and continues after decades helping me achieve my wellbeing ominously. What is consciousness? A realisation? A purpose? A connection? or an Aha moment? Consciousness is proof of life that we are ALIVE; a gift, to see, feel and experience this world. We are a product of our circumstances, habits, cultural or a religious discourse, learnings etc. that we are accustomed to, collectively referred to as our experiences, mostly physical. Good or bad it’s stored by the brain as a part of our growth journey influenced by natural instincts, talents, and constitution topped by external stimuli and how we react to it. What is positive and what’s negative What gets applauded and what’s criticised What is happiness and what’s sadness “The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated” – William Jones We create these unique files and store them in our memory which serve as a knowledge bank of perceptions. These subjective files stored in memory based on how they are experienced create our perceived reality. This includes our prejudices, biases, logical fallacies, likes, dislikes, etc. This perceived reality becomes the world we create for ourselves. A reality that becomes one's identity, awareness and ego. Greater the ego, the stronger the opinions, the lesser the tolerance, and the greater the stress in a given environment. Every new instance is measured against an existing standard perception already filed looking for familiarity. This reality, coupled with survival instincts and memory over time, matures into a foundation from which everything is processed. That forms the basis for most judgments. Situations get exacerbated with inaccurate data, incorrect measurement, and wrong nutrition, influence of psychotropic substances, biases, fallacies, alkaloids or stimulants that lead to uncertainty, insecurity, chemical imbalances and suffering. In simpler terms, the output is the energy generated from our lifestyles and habits. The output is directly proportional to inputs and the process. The energy in memory manifests itself in our behaviour subconsciously and is evident how we react to various situations in our life, in our body language, behaviours and other forms of expression. Quite significant is the impact of natural surroundings, how additional oxygen opens up our minds, how a vegetarian diet keeps us agile and how we absorb all kinds of energy from our surroundings. There are various types of energy some which excite us, some that make us repel and some that heal. Enlightened Yogis, Saints and Monks created specially consecrated places to assist the wellbeing of the society. These hallowed places help recharge our batteries metaphorically. Given the intense competition and hustle, most undertake to make a living, expecting any change from the usual comfort is often not as voluntary as one would like and at the same time no one likes to get forced either. However, the pandemic is forcing many to rethink their respective life journey without offering a choice. Never before has there been the kind of surge in mental health issues globally and many do not know what to do and are silently suffering. It’s imperative for us to recognise that an informed decision is much better than a reaction under emotionally charged circumstances. In order to gain that calm, the balance, composure to achieve that ability you should begin the spiritual journey. Investing less than hour a day should benefit us qualitatively in our life by keeping stress at bay and quantitatively by helping us save millions on those bills that arise out of unhealthy lifestyles. One recommendation that I most often give my clients is to get to a nearby green zone, forest or an ashram for a detox. A comprehensive one physical to digital, spend time soaking up the sun, getting excess oxygen into your system and start meditation beginning to explore that inner self. Practice Silence, Listen Ask yourself: Who am I? What influences me? Where am I headed? Listing a few natural energy centres around the world that might help: Mount Kailash in Tibet Matho Thippila in Wyoming, United States The Holy Mountain in Tiruvannamalai, South India (where I visit) Alternatively start online from where you are at home and with time or convenience permitting, visit the recommended recharge centres to enhance your experience. I, therefore, insist you, all my readers to consider giving yourself this gift to enhance your overall wellbeing and thrive. Best wishes! - What Online Business Should You Start Today?
Written by: Rebecca Mason, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. When I was looking to start an online business, all I could think about was how I didn’t know how to code a website, and I couldn’t design if my life depended on it. I was reflecting back on my college education and berated myself for not majoring in computer science… Had I totally wasted that time and money? I was stuck. Serving tables, assisting Executives, and watching my remote work dreams fade further and further into the distance. And then… I heard about Virtual Assisting. That is when I realized that I was unknowingly FULL of useful skills! This whole time working remotely felt so far away and yet, all I had to do was connect the dots and translate the skills I DID have into a Virtual Assistant business and my remote dreams would come true! I had admin experience… I had customer service experience… I had experience booking travel and making appointments… And that is exactly how I started my Virtual Assistant business, quit my 9-5, and began working remotely! Here are my four easy steps you can take to determine what Virtual Assistant business you can start offering TODAY! Step 1: Write down all your skills from your work experience And I mean all of them! Don’t judge each skill before writing it down. Don’t think, “I have this skill, but surely it doesn’t apply to the online world.” Write it all down, and get CLEAR on how all your work and life experiences have filled your toolbox with amazing skills and abilities! Here are some examples! Do you work retail? Then you may have experience with managing a team, customer service, and handling shipping, returns, and orders! Are you a teacher? Then you may have experience with PowerPoint creation, course development, English, and number crunching! Have you been an administrator? Then you may have experience with email management, scheduling meetings, booking travel, and data entry! Are you design-savvy? Then you may have experience with Photoshop, video editing, web management, and photography. Step 2: Write down all your amazing characteristics! It’s important to get clear on what makes you, you! The fact that you are trustworthy, punctual, and a good team player is not OBVIOUS to a potential client, and yet, those maybe three important values in their business. Those may be the reasons they choose to work with you over someone else! These characteristics are your magic powers. Whether you are bilingual, a quick learner, or a critical thinker, write them all down. Step 3: Group together the skills you ALREADY have into four categories Virtual Assistant services normally fall under 4 categories (but honestly, the word “assistance” means you can support with anything). Group your skills and abilities into these four. Admin This category covers the most obvious tasks of a Virtual Assistant. Don’t forget all the admin skills you’ve acquired from running your own life. Email Management Appointment & Podcast Scheduling Booking Travel Personal Tasks Support Email/Customer Service Sending Contracts/Invoices To Their Customers Project Management Social Media and Marketing Every business has (or should have) a social media presence! CEOs rarely start a business because they love Instagram… what they love, is to hand that task off to someone else. Scheduling Posts on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Creating Content For Posts On Social Media Platforms Creating Content & Editing For Blogs Facebook Group Management Responding To FB/IG Messages Responding to FB/IG Comments Design Creation Do you have an eye for design (because you either do or you don’t, to be honest)? Branding Basics Simple Graphics For Social Media Create Landing Pages Design Lead Magnets & PDFs Logo Creation Website Design Powerpoint Design And Everything Visual… Tech Support Every online business has some degree of tech and keeping it up to snuff is an important task! Setting Up Email Marketing Campaigns Creating & Connecting Landing Pages Website Management Website Creation Webinar Setup Blog Management Podcast Editing & Uploading Marketing Funnels Online Course Setup Can you already see how the skills you have accumulated from living your life, working all your jobs, and being a student can easily translate into Virtual Assisting? I can! Step 4: Drown out the noise You may have had a split second “ah-ha!” moment doing that exercise before imposter syndrome came in and said, “Forget it, you have NO idea how to edit a podcast.” Here’s the thing... All these fancy skills that sound bad-ass and advanced, CAN BE LEARNED! You can figure it all out! You can Youtube it, you can call customer service, you can do your research. But, if you are sitting back and thinking you’ll just study website design until you feel confident enough to offer it as a VA service, you will NEVER feel confident enough. There are so many clients out there that need your support right now organizing their inbox, managing their customer questions, and engaging on their social media! Jump in, start working with clients using the skills you already have, and then explore the next level of services you can grow into. - Why You Should Build On Your Strengths And Instead Of Weaknesses
Written by: Mikaela Contreras, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. How many times have you had a conversation with your boss talking about developing your weaknesses? How many times have you had those uncomfortable conversations on how to improve your less than perfect skills and overcome your inadequacies. Conversations that tend to circle around your shortcomings and what you should do to get better at them. Probably quite a few if you’ve been in the workforce for a while. But is this really the best way to get the most out of you? I argue that it’s not. For what will happen when we look at the things we do poorly? I’ll share one of my examples. I’m an extravert to a fault, a networker, a doer, a creator, a big-picture thinker, and a relationship builder. I am NOT a natural organiser, a detail-focused woman, an analyst, or an administrator. So when my manager asked me to do payroll while working as a recruiter, it was bound to go tits up. As you can imagine, doing payroll requires detail-focus, patience (which is another one of my shortcomings), and organisational skills. No matter how much I concentrated on doing it accurate, I always made at least one mistake. Naturally, it wasn’t well-received by my manager and it was constantly on my “to improve- list”. The consequences were these: My motivation started to fade My confidence started to decrease My sense of achievement got a kick in the butt My progress of developing my detail-focus was slow, painful, and had a low impact What should we do instead? Of course, leveraging your strengths. We tend to have natural talents, things that come easy to us. That doesn’t mean that we can’t develop and grow other talents but we have some competencies that we have a certain flair for. What happens when we develop a skill that we already have a flair for? We have more fun! We tend to like doing what we are good at! Our motivation increases, as a result of having fun! We learn faster! When developing something you already have a flair the progress and impact will be much quicker and pronounced. We feel a much greater sense of achievement! By being more productive, we accomplish more. Our confidence and trust in ourselves improve with the progress we make. So when you are choosing a career path, a new job, or a project, leverage your strengths and build on your superpowers. It will make the most impact on your productivity and your happiness! And if you are a manager, try to delegate tasks that speak to your employee’s strengths. It’ll pay off in the long run. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and visit my website for more info! Joanne Angel Barry Colon has 30+ years in the health, fitness and wellness industry. She is the owner of Wholistic Fitness located in NY Queens, certified wholistic personal trainer, intuitive healer, cosmic energy reader, student of Astrology, Master of Numerology and Creator of Chakra Balance Numerology Cosmic Energy Forecast Deck. She is the Host of Joanne's Healing Within T.V Show and Joanne's Cosmic Energy Radio Show and Author/Self-Publisher. Joanne's mission: To help women (men by referral) release issues from their tissues as they release emotional weight and fall in love with themselves while witnessing their transformation of being the best version of themselves. Who is Joanne? I am Rev Joanne Angel Barry Colon, I was born at home in Jackson Heights, Queens, on March 4, 1970 and my middle name was given to me by two police officers that arrived at my parent’s house, after my dad called 911 because my mom was in labor. By time the police arrived, my dad had already delivered me, the umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck. One of the police officer’s asked my dad, “have you done this before?” “No, first time,” my dad said. The police officer then told to my dad “that he will slowly help him remove the umbilical cord from my neck, which they safely did and then escorted us to the hospital. The nurse came in, asking my parents “does the baby have a name yet?” “We don’t have a middle name yet,” my mom told her. Both officers asked if they can give the middle name. “What name do you want to give her?” my parents asked. They both said “ANGEL”, because she looks like a little angel, my parents agreed. I lived in Jackson Heights for two weeks and then moved to Bayside/Flushing for 40 years and on my 40th birthday, I moved out of my parent’s house and now live in Whitestone, Queens. I went to Julia Richman High School and my hubby first laid eyes on me in Social Studies class and three months later official meant while he was working as a security guard in a supermarket and recently celebrated our 8th year wedding anniversary and we have a 26-year old daughter together. I have been in the health, fitness and wellness industry for 30+ years. I knew at 12 years old that I wanted to own my own business helping, educating, healing and transforming women to be the best version of themselves. I signed the lease to my brick and mortar business in September 2001 and due to 911 events, my doors open on October 31, 2001. I am celebrating 20 years in Business on September 11, 2021. For the first 12 years of my business, I helped women (men by referral) get healthy, get in shape and look and feel good. However, ten years ago, after my mom passed, I started working with psychics, healers and crystals and something within me shifted, I became very sensitive to people’s energy, which shifted my philosophy and mission as a personal trainer. Within a very short time my 5 senses were activated. In the Spiritual Realm this is known as Spiritual Gifts and these gifts were the following: I am Clairvoyant, which means, I can see spirit. I am Clairaudience, which means, I can hear spirit. I am Clairsentience, which means, I can feel spirit. I am Clairalience, which means, I can smell odors that have no physical source (cigars, perfume, etc). I am Clairgustance, which means I can taste a specific meal that spirit made. I am Claircognizance, which mean clear knowing. I know things without knowing how I obtain the information. The first three “Clairs” came on very strong after my mom passed. The last three “Clairs” were activated over time with the help of Reiki and Crystal Healing. In 2019, I started referring to myself as a Wholistic Personal Trainer rather than a Personal Trainer. I now work with clients with a Wholistic Approach, where I focus on the “TOTAL” person and help, educate, heal and transform their mind, body, emotions and spirit with movement, nutrition and meditation. I am a Certified Wholistic Personal Trainer, Intuitive Healer, Cosmic Energy Reader, Medical Astrologer, Master of Numerology and creator of the Chakra Balance Numerology Cosmic Energy Forecast Deck. I am also a Self –Publisher and Author of six books, to name a few: Healing Within Meditation The Power To Release Weight Healing With Numbers Creative Cash Flow I am the Host of Joanne’s Healing Within TV Show and Joanne’s Cosmic Energy Radio Show, both shows featured on Strong Island Entertainment, Roku and YouTube and Radio Show, Spotify and Itunes, Heart Radio. I am also the Columnist of The Authors Porch Magazine (Cosmic Corner), Innervision Magazine (Woman Within) and The Tri-Town News (Crystals and Wellness). What is it that you do for your clients? My mission and purpose is to help women (men by referral) release issues from their tissues, as they release emotional weight and fall in love with themselves, while I witness there transformation of seeing themselves as the best version of who they are already. Who should hire/work with you? Anyone who is ready to commit to digging deep into their childhood wounds and past life traumas Ready to release emotional weight that shows up as physical weight, while letting go of old habits, patterns, beliefs and programming relating to dieting and poor body image Anyone who is ready to clear emotional blocks related to relationships, abandonment, abuse, rejection and assault Ready to heal and transform into a Healer. Teacher and/or Master What is your big goal? Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Within the next two years, my desire is to transition my business into Wholistic Fitness Institute, where clients transition to students and then transition to Healers, Teachers, and Masters. Within 10 years or sooner, I see myself traveling to different cities and countries to teach my Self-Growth Discovery Method and Body and Soul Transformation Prescriptions, which are in process of being created as I am writing this. We wanted to find out more about this inspiring success & business coach and energy healer; her journey, and some inspired tips for anyone currently looking to break through an income barrier. Louisa Havers, Business Coach for High Achievers Louisa, your world has changed dramatically over the past few years – what kick-started this huge transformation? It certainly has! Ten years ago, I had a “great” job, working in the Public Sector, leading service re-designs across multiple agencies, as well as mentoring people in their careers in the workplace. I felt safe. The work was varied; I was being promoted and learning new skills and different ways to help people. I thought I had a job for life. As a single mum of two boys, this felt like a good place to be. Sure, the hours were incredibly long, but I was well-paid and could put a roof over our heads and food on the table. The reality was, I was working in a sector that had pay freezes for 8 straight years, coupled with endless rounds of redundancies, meaning I was taking on a greater workload, increased hours in the office – so I saw less of my kids - for the same money. I was exhausted; I had no time for the things I wanted to do or to enjoy the things that truly mattered. Then came two huge life events, which led to a profound change in my thinking. The first was my father’s death. He was an incredibly creative man, an artist, who’d given up this passion to take up a corporate job, so he could keep his family in a certain style. He would always say that when he retired, he was going to return to painting, and become the artist he’d always longed to be; something he’d been unable to do for so long, because of the long hours he worked. Then he became ill and never got to enjoy the retirement he’d planned. For me, this was a huge ‘aha’ moment. I realized unless I took action and created change in my life, I was heading down the same path. My second epiphany was about Shingles and post-viral chronic fatigue, which left me off work for 5 months. My mind body and spirit were telling me, very clearly, that I needed to do things differently. From this ‘AHA’ moment, what led you into the world of coaching? My next steps were a puzzle I needed to solve! What would I do instead? I asked myself what my ideal business would look like, and lived in the energy of that question. I was very open to what came up. The first opportunity I manifested was within a network marketing business. It was something I could do outside my working day, so I embraced the opportunities. It opened many doors for me, as well as helping me realize that it was the coaching element of my job that lit me up. Working with people, and enabling them to achieve great results, gave me huge joy. Once I understood where my passion lay, I knew I had to make big changes in my life, now; not wait for things to happen. Unless I radically altered how I was living, I’d simply experience more of the same. What gave you the confidence to take those first steps towards your new life? Yes, leaving the “safe” job, with its illusion of “security” was a huge step, but I had faith that what I was doing was for the best. Whilst still working full time, I’d also become certified in Coaching, which I knew was where my passion and future lay. Once I’d made the big decision to leave, I studied further and became certified in energy modalities, Pranic Healing, The Energy Alignment Method, and certified as an Akashic Records Consultant and Teacher. Thanks to these, I learned how to manage my energy, thoughts, and emotions, to completely shift the way I looked at life. So, in answer to your question, I’d say Divine guidance gave me the confidence to finally leave my corporate job; understanding that I had to have the courage to take the first step – because by doing so, I said to the Universe that I was open to change. It’s a step I’m so grateful I took! What was the first thing you did when you left full-time work? Funnily enough, it was finding a Coach! Someone who could help guide me in setting up my business. It’s such a HUGE identity shift becoming the CEO of your own business that I found it massively helpful to have someone there who could mentor me, whilst I transformed my vibration and expectations. Can you tell us more about the brand DNA? In everything I do, I lead by the heart. My motto is – love your body, love your life, love your soul addicted to alignment. My original business name, Trifolium – the Latin name for clover - represented this three-faceted approach. If you’ve ever seen a Clover with its three heart-shaped leaves, connected to a triangle in the center, you’d understand why. However, as my work evolves, so does my business. I recently renamed it LAMH International Ltd. LAMH combines both mine and my sons’ initials, reflecting the Legacy energy that my business is creating. Our motto of “Love your life, love your body, love your soul, underpins everything that we do. How important is one’s vision of self when it comes to success? I’m always fascinated by the different success masks we wear. These are the things we’ve attached our identity to – they reflect the roles we’ve played to reach the point we currently find ourselves. The question is, when you strip them away, who are you? For me, having gone from leading large teams to becoming the leader and the team, was a real turning point in my life. I was creating a whole new identity; opening myself up to both self-doubt, as well as opportunity, and I needed to change my vibrational set point to reflect my new circumstances. We attract the things that mirror the self-concepts of our identity, so there’s always work to be done around this. It’s one of the reasons why I love helping leaders and entrepreneurs break through to those next income levels. It’s because so much of it revolves around identity – because how we see ourselves is a story we tell ourselves and others. We do this because we seek to prove the idea we have of ourselves is right; that we are indeed who we see ourselves as being. The crucial thing to ensure an income breakthrough is to discover which stories we’re telling ourselves are the ones holding us back… then release them, and replace them with new ones, vibrationally aligned to our updated vision of self. What else has your energy healing and coaching taught you, when it comes to breaking through an income barrier? Everything is energy. If we’re out of alignment in one aspect of our life, this has a ripple effect across everything else. I’ve seen this time and time again – in my own life, as well as my clients. Alignment is a crucial part of the success story. It’s also something that I help my clients achieve. Our bodies talk to us… and if you know what to look for, they are wonderfully clear! So, if you aren’t where you want to be, then there’s something holding you back. I help clients uncover beliefs they may be holding on to – ones they might not even be aware of – and enable them to be released. It’s so wonderfully simple. Once you understand that everything you create mirrors the energy state you’re in, it becomes easier to discern what your subconscious is doing and if it’s holding you back. The key is to find out what’s happening energetically. Only then can you recalibrate and move forward. We’re always in one of three energetic states. a. Being in Flow This is a receiving energy. It’s where we want to be. This is where everything feels easy. All is going well. It’s effortless. We are open to allow things in. b. Being in Resistance This is when it seems like you’re making progress, but it feels slow and hard – two steps forward, two steps back. Limiting beliefs pop up. We are creating this resistance. c. Reversed energy This is where everything feels stuck. You’re doing the right things, but nothing is happening. You feel as though you’re moving away from your goals. It’s amazing how a seemingly innocuous belief you’ve held all your life, can be the very thing that’s stopping you from being inflow. If you can get to the root of the cause and then let it go, the resulting release and forward momentum can feel like magic. Cleaning our energy opens up the space to receive. Muscle testing allows you to identify any resistance you’re holding, release it and realign to a higher energetic attraction point. What would you say is the most commonly held myth that can hold you back from earning the income of your dreams? Ah, this is a myth that comes up a lot in both my 1:1 coaching sessions and group Mastermind classes. It’s more common than you’d imagine. What is it? Well, it’s getting rid of the ‘work hard’ programming. The belief that you must work really, really hard to achieve the money/success you desire is a root cause of stress and burnout and attracts the opposite results. It’s a conviction that’s been imprinted in our conscious and subconscious minds from a young age, thanks to our parents, schools, friends, and work colleagues. “You’ll only succeed if you spend longer doing XYZ / working harder at XYZ”, is something we’ve all heard at some point in our life. We also absorb this message by watching others acting it out. Certainly, for me, watching my dad working himself ragged, it was definitely a program I ran, until I released it using my Energy Kinesiology Method (part of my Helix Method® Certification Program). This myth can show up in so many hidden ways. For instance, “if I don’t work hard, my business will falter”, “if I don’t work hard, my money will dry up / clients disappear” etc. We need to catch all the different thoughts around this myth and replace them with positive aligned beliefs that raise our vibrational energy, i.e., “the more money I make, the more money I make”, and “the easier it gets, the easier it gets” and “the more energy I have, the more energy I have.” etc. It’s one of the biggest illusions out there and, one of the biggest causes of stress and burnout. Working harder and harder is never the solution to achieving the success of your dreams. The key is to become the vibrational match to all you desire, then it’s your energy that does the heavy lifting for you. That makes so much sense! Do you have another top tip for busting through an income ceiling? If you haven’t already got a manifesting process, get one… and implement it daily! It’s part of my everyday ritual – where I set my intention and co-create with the Universe. You can always take my process for a spin and see how it serves you. It takes no more than 15 minutes a day. 1. Connect to your higher self. It’s so crucial to align all levels of our consciousness: the conscious, subconscious, and super-conscious. You can do this by setting the intention to connect, then taking heart-centered breaths, in and out... until you feel linked to the universe, rather than your ego. 2. Create the identity of your future self. By this I mean, take time to consider what is showing up in your business. Is there any resistance? You can muscle test what comes up and find out if any sneaky, hidden beliefs have crept in. Clear these and reprogramme your thoughts by doing affirming activations. This will help re-wire self-concepts and create a new vibrational set point. 3. Live in the energy of the question. This is a very powerful step. It’s where you pose a ‘how’ or ‘why’ question – because phrasing it in this way creates an energetic space for answers to come through. For instance, “How is it that I’ve doubled my income?” or “Why am I always receiving more money?” Doing this is like writing your desire on a post-It note and handing it to the Universe. Don’t try and force any answers to your question, just notice any synchronicities or guidance that comes through. It may not be immediate – it can come later in the day – and it might not be a blinding ‘aha’ moment. It can be just a little nudge here and there. With practice, you’ll learn to recognize and be open to what the Universe is showing you. 4. Take aligned action on the inspiration you receive. This action is vital. As you do this, you are allowing yourself to take action on those ideas that are in resonance with your intention, which leads to greater moments and results. If you want to know more about the Law of Vibration – take a look HERE. The key to this manifesting process is to do it DAILY! Consistency is so important when it comes to building momentum around your new energetic attraction point. What’s your final piece of advice for a leader or entrepreneur looking to break through their income ceiling? Focus, focus, focus! We live in a time when we wear many hats – mother, daughter, friend, CEO, etc. – so our lives can sometimes feel like a juggling act. It can lead to feeling a bit scattered, as our intention can become spread across too many areas. Concentrate on the main outcome you want – i.e., an income breakthrough – because, as we know with energy, wherever your attention is, becomes your intention. Having a single-minded focus in one area doesn’t mean that you must neglect everything else, but it shows the Universe where your current priority lies, and the Universe will respond in kind. What do you think when you look back at your journey from Public Sector to internationally renowned Success & Business Coach, and Energetic Healer? Looking back to when I was struggling on the corporate hamster wheel to where I am now, I’m profoundly thankful for the incredible transformation I’ve made in my own life. I now have time to spend with my sons – and our relationship has changed so profoundly because of it. I am also able to enjoy my home in East Sussex, England, and my cats, Batman and Robin. I’m so grateful I get to contribute to my clients’ lives; to help them align and manifest beyond their wildest dreams, in both their lives and businesses, and that is more fulfilling than I could have ever thought possible. I think if I have to narrow it down, success to me is a feeling you embody; of being in the moment, feeling in flow. I call it aligned success and having this aligned success is the best place to live from. So, what’s the next big project for Louisa Havers, and how can someone get in touch with you?
