1. Having the clearest “big picture”

Making your business more sustainable starts with making sure your “big picture” is crystal clear, with the following 5 steps:

  1. Assess your passion that comes from connecting fully with what you love to do.

  2. Express your vision outward toward customers and the market to tell them what you want to see improved in the world in the long term.

  3. Communicate and share your mission – your unique contribution to reach the vision with team members and employees.

  4. Clarify your ambition – what you want to achieve concretely so that stakeholders and investors can support it.

  5. Identify who you need to be in order to fulfill your mission and ambition so that it can be leveraged and expanded by partnerships and alliances.

2. Evolving from success to significance

Setting your aim too high and falling short is better than setting your aim too low and achieving your mark. Instead of Sustaining what you currently have, Regenerate your business to a new level. Start with a relentless focus on your customer's next level of potential. What are their aims and aspirations? Play a critical role in helping them evolve to their next-stage potential. Otherwise, you're focusing on their existing problems, which is necessary but not Regenerative.

3. Stop judging

One thing I frequently talk about in my work with people and organizations is that nothing is ever going to become greater through judgment. Judgment, or making people or things wrong is only going to stymie creativity, productivity, and contribution to the business. To create a sustainable business we have to ask questions, look at every situation as a possibility for growth, and seek ways to change and create more.”

4. Prioritizing what's important

If you are a Consultant, a Business Developer, a CEO, or even a Board Member at a company, knowing how to integrate sustainability into business strategy will change your professional circumstances. Take a starting point in the company's strategy and define the company’s value chain. Then map the company's sustainability impact by using the Sustainable Development Goals. Include your most important stakeholders when you rank essential areas of where sustainability is material for your business and company. Prioritize your activities, set goals, measure, evaluate and follow up.

5. Maintaining identity & uniqueness

Sustainability has become a buzzword these days everyone wants to create it in their business. Of course, the ongoing, consistent, and reliable income is a necessity for survival. How to create this coveted status as a business is not a mystery. In truth, it is just about exposure. When a SAVVY company can keep the attention of its ideal customers, it organically generates leads which then becomes revenue. So, sustainability in business is as simple as standing out in the crowd and being seen in a strategic and intentional way that creates exposure. Be strategic. Be intentional. Be SAVVY!
