Even though I'm in the business of mindset creation using the power of thoughts, words, and emotions to build a life on my terms, it takes immense work and effort. Despite becoming skilled at it and teaching others globally, I'm still awestruck when that creation manifests in my life. I believe becoming jaded to goodness, when winning stops feeling good or achievement loses its importance, is dangerous because it hinders our ability to see the good and the value in our efforts.

When I think about my efforts, I know that I cannot do this on my own, nor do I want to. Instead, I'm driven by a profound curiosity: how many "superheroes" can I create? My life, if summed up in one word, is "Awesome!" This confidence stems from another single word: ownership.
The power of mindset: Building a life on your terms
Mindset creation is about using everything you have and everything you've learned to design a life that truly fits you. It's about seeing the results of your intentional thoughts and actions consistently over time. Yet, even as you become adept at this, it's crucial to resist becoming jaded. That sense of wonder, of being wowed when your efforts manifest, is vital. Losing that feeling means we miss the inherent value in our hard work.
My journey in mindset creation isn't solitary; it's a collaborative effort. My drive is fueled by a desire to empower others, to see how many "superheroes" can be forged. This mission underscores a core belief: that transformation is possible, and it begins with how we perceive our own narratives.
Beyond the highlight reel: Embracing 100% ownership
How often do we truly take ownership of our entire story? Social media presents a highlight reel of everyone's best day, best advice, best outfit, and best new project. But I've decided that ownership of my life is only valuable if it's 100%. I can willingly admit that chapter four sucked; it was terrible. However, being on chapter fourteen now provides perspective. Looking back at chapter four, despite its craziness, I realize I met someone who later became a valued client, making that move out west worthwhile.
Similarly, the amazing opportunity to go skydiving or teach for the first time out west, despite initial hiccups, now offers wisdom because I'm no longer emotionally tied to those past struggles. This allows me to harvest so much good from it, owning the entirety of the story, not just highlighting aspects I'm embarrassed about. I openly discuss my failures and struggles because solutions only make sense in the context of problems. Hardship, as I see it, is the prerequisite for glory. Obstacles exist, but they are not reasons to diminish success or give up.
From excuse to example: The identity of a conqueror
Taking ownership makes life so much easier. Just as owning your home or car gives you control, owning your story empowers you rather than diminishes you. When sitting at the round table with my clients, a constant question is: Am I an excuse or an example? Choosing to take ownership of your entire life allows you to be an example of how to win.
We are most equipped to help the person we used to be. But we can only help that person if we admit that we once were that person, if we admit we once struggled with an addiction, or that running a business was harder than we thought. As Layla Hormozi wisely put it, this life isn't for everyone, and most people aren't equipped to be the highly successful entrepreneur they imagine. This is precisely why those who stick it out benefit so many more people in an abundant way.
Authenticity as your superpower: Inspiring others
We all benefit from the insights of other people. When we push far enough, when we're open with our story, and when we take ownership of both the failures and the wins (and the "mean time" in between), more people see us as an example to follow. Our brave decisions become the exact motivation others need to make their own great decisions and create a fulfilled life. Because a fulfilled life is never designed to be pain-free; as Tupac said, it's a struggle every day, but you've got to roll on.
Just keep going, and when you go far enough, things make so much more sense. Documenting, taking ownership, and purposely telling your own story allows countless others to benefit from it, rather than just being inspired by a single highlight you choose to share on Instagram. Authenticity is one of the most powerful elements in this world. No one can deny that I'm doing it on purpose, and no one can say I didn't take ownership of my entire story. Nothing is off-limits to me. Because there's nothing I'm ashamed of, my full story becomes a resource for so many more people, as I'm most equipped to help the person I used to be.
Your 5-step action plan to radical ownership
Based on this understanding, here are five key strategies to take ownership of your life:
Acknowledge and integrate your entire story: Don't just highlight the successes; willingly admit and process the difficult chapters and failures as integral parts of your journey.
Focus on the value of your experiences: Look for the lessons and potential good that emerged even from challenging times, understanding that solutions often arise from problems.
Embrace authenticity and openness: Share your full story, including struggles, to become a relatable example for others and foster genuine connection.
Choose to be an example, not an excuse: Consciously decide to use your experiences as a demonstration of how to overcome challenges and achieve success.
Recognize your capacity to help your former self: Acknowledge your past struggles and use that understanding to guide and support others facing similar situations.
Ready to stop being a carefully curated social media mannequin and become the gloriously authentic, slightly chaotic, and utterly compelling you?
Then, for the love of all that is real and unfiltered, start owning it! Talk about your struggles! Laugh at your failures! Share the time you thought you knew everything and were spectacularly wrong! What's the worst that can happen? People might actually like you for being real? The horror!
So go forth, my beautifully flawed friends! Unleash your unvarnished tales upon the world! Your story, in all its messy glory, is your superpower. Now go use it before someone else writes a boring one for you!
