Mental resets are necessary, especially when we are feeling defeated by to-do lists and the stressors that come our way. Compacting pressure from our internal dialogue can cause a snowball effect of overwhelm and increased fatigue. However, we have the power to control some of our outcomes and lower our stress levels, and it can start with a few easy tips that you can incorporate each day.

1. Sleep hygiene is crucial to our well-being, and implementing a nightly calming ritual can help increase the quality of our sleep.

A few examples include listening to calming music, trying a guided meditation, or reading. Stimulating our senses with calming scents such as lavender can help to regulate our nervous system. Try lighting a candle or investing in essential oils!

2. Intentional movement and acknowledging our stressors help to release negative emotions from our bodies and increase feel-good energy.

An example of implementing activity during a busy work day is finding an accountability partner to go on a short walk with during your lunch break, or an after-dinner walk gives us time to decompress from the day.

3. Lastly, deep breathing exercises throughout the day help to calm our nervous systems.

Stress can cause our nervous systems to become dysregulated and increase anxiety. Therefore, causing our breathing to turn shallow, and becoming aware of changing breathing patterns works wonders. Take a deep breath in for five seconds and take a full breath out for five seconds, several times increases internal calm.

4. Lastly, letting go of perfectionism and accepting that we do not need to accomplish everything we had planned is ok.

Life happens, and giving ourselves grace and adjusting when possible is essential.

A mental reset can occur when we become proactive at problem-solving through our stressors one small step at a time, implementing positive self-talk, and seeing the fruits of our labor flourish.
