The Silent Killer – Mental Health

February 2018, my first mental breakdown. I hadn't slept a full night's sleep since 2014. Chronic sleep deprivation can cause depression, anxiety, affect your appearance, and many other things. Mental health is felt and hardly seen. It eats you up inside and makes you want to hide. We are all unique, and so is the experience of suffering in silence.

I didn't want to be here anymore; voices in my head, sounds, flashbacks, and smells were daily.

When Alfie nearly died, so did my soul for 4 years. I felt like I had let him down. He had a severe reaction to the MMR jab. I was so angry and sad he had suffered but grateful he was here and given a second chance.

In my view, any parent who has lost a child is by far the strongest, bravest, and most powerful people on earth. How you carry on shows true strength.

My strength back then was in the deepest, darkest black hole. I didn't want to talk to anyone. I didn't go out. Every day was groundhog day, as this was my way of coping. Keep all the same, no change, and all will be ok.

My head was a mess. I'm a coach; I coach people on how to reframe situations/circumstances, tell the story differently, and how to have self-belief. I would get more annoyed than sad again. Why can't I fix this? I'm failing! Then I had another life shock, and an ex-employee took his own life. Though I understood that feeling of not wanting to be here, I couldn't be. This was when I got help. I stopped coaching as I genuinely believed I would be doing a disservice to my clients when I was so broken.

I felt stuck and emotionally paralysed at the time. Truth, we are never stuck, and I knew this. I was diagnosed with PTSD, and even this annoyed me. I didn't want to accept it. Alfie is here, and I am grateful yet so sad. I disassociated it all. I had EMDR therapy which was really tough, but it helped ease things and calm my brain from fight or flight mode. The fight or flight response is an automatic physiological reaction to an event that is perceived as stressful or frightening. The perception of threat activates the sympathetic nervous system and triggers an acute stress response that prepares the body to fight or flee.

I started to feel better and had more energy, but triggers would set me off. Then someone I knew and I had reached out to offer help as she was struggling with a situation and felt her voice wasn't being heard and suffering in silence. The fear of discussing her overwhelm and struggles made it worse. I noticed the pattern and felt this as if I had been there.

I messaged her to say, "Now may feel so scary and you can't see a way out, but I promise you it's a moment in time, and it will pass, but sadly the situation got worse for her and with social media and people believing all they read, unfortunately, she took her own life. It was just so sad she felt she couldn't go on. I wish I could turn the clock back and help more. I hope she has found her happy place.

This was when I knew I had to change and take action and heal myself, as that could have been me. When you feel you have nowhere to turn and the noise in your head gets too much, it feels so lonely, and I feel isolated.

I had hired numerous coaches; some made an impact, and 2 none. The main one is Nick Breau, who transformed my life instantly!! I explained where I was at, at the time and what my frustrations were. Why couldn't I shake this off? One simple answer no one had seen. I had become addicted to fear!!! Once I knew this, I knew how to make rapid changes.

I got my shit together after 4 years!

I still run a successful business throughout it all, though I'll be honest, I don't know I did, but I did.

I changed my environment to stop triggers. I completed a renovation on our home.

The environment can influence your behavior and motivation to act. The environment can influence mood. For example, the results of several research studies reveal that rooms with bright light, both natural and artificial, can improve health outcomes such as depression, agitation, and sleep.

Everything was dark in my house at the time and low energy, but now virtually everything is white, cleansed, and light grey with high vibe. I also studied Feng shui to ensure I had the right energy flowing. It made a huge difference.

I worked on the following to go from surviving to thriving.

  1. Connection reconnected with myself and my family.

  2. Aligned with my values and re-established what they truly were.

  3. Wrote my 10 years of personal and business vision

  4. I ate mindful food to enhance my mind

  5. Exercise as you move energy around, your body moves.

  6. Cut out anything that was draining me or making me unhappy.

  7. evaluated my finances as money stress can be the worse stress of them all

  8. Healed past traumas and patterns

  9. Wrote a forgiveness letter

  10. Created habits

  11. Mastered discipline

  12. Had fun

Transformation brings results when you're ready to change.
