In a world that moves fast and rewards flash, Shawn Pugh stands out by doing the opposite. He keeps things steady. Honest. Thoughtful. And that’s what’s worked for him.

Born on January 6, 1984, Shawn grew up in Flat Rock, Michigan. It’s a small town, but his roots there run deep. “Flat Rock shaped me,” Shawn says. “It’s where I learned discipline, respect, and the value of hard work.”

His father served in the U.S. Navy, and that military influence showed up early in Shawn’s life. “My dad didn’t say much, but when he did, you listened,” he says. “He taught us to finish what we start.”

Shawn shared a tight bond with his two brothers. “We didn’t always get along, but we always had each other’s backs. That mattered.”

Sports were a big part of his youth. He played both football and basketball in high school. It wasn’t just about the games. “Sports taught me how to compete, but also how to lose and get back up,” he says.

After high school, Shawn knew he wanted to serve. He went to Kalamazoo Valley Community College and earned his Firefighter 1 & 2 Certifications. “Becoming a firefighter was about helping people when it mattered most. That’s something I’ll always carry with me,” he explains.

But life doesn’t always stick to one path. In 2012, Shawn stepped into a new world—customer experience.

“It wasn’t planned,” he admits. “But I found that the skills I learned in emergency response—staying calm, thinking fast, leading under pressure—worked in the business world too.”

He started from the ground up as a Customer Experience Professional. Over time, he moved into leadership roles: Administrative Supervisor, Real-Time Operations Supervisor, Incident Management Supervisor.

In each position, he learned more about people, systems, and solutions. “Every role taught me something new. I’ve failed, I’ve grown, and I’ve tried to stay humble through it all,” he says.

Now, Shawn works as a Customer Experience Manager. His job involves making sure customers have a smooth experience while helping his team work better together. “It’s about being a bridge between people and systems,” he explains. “You have to listen, lead, and adapt.”

But Shawn doesn’t just live for the 9-to-5. Outside of work, he’s built a life that keeps him grounded.

He lives in Westland, Michigan, with his wife. “She’s my partner in everything. I’d be lost without her,” he says.

Shawn loves golf, working out, and playing poker. “Golf keeps me patient. The gym clears my head. Poker reminds me that risk and reward are always linked,” he shares.

He’s also a big fan of travel. Two places hold a special place in his heart: Mexico and Virginia Beach. “Mexico is where I go to unwind. Virginia Beach reminds me of good times with family and friends,” he says.

And then there’s his love for animals. “Animals don’t ask for much. Just kindness. I’ve always had a soft spot for them,” he says.

Shawn doesn’t chase titles or praise. He just tries to do good work and live with purpose. “I don’t think success is loud,” he says. “It’s quiet. It’s consistency over time.”

If there’s one thread running through his story, it’s resilience. From firefighting to managing crisis teams, from high school sports to leading customer experience teams—Shawn keeps showing up.

He credits his journey to staying curious and open. “Every challenge is a chance to learn. You just have to be willing to pay attention,” he says.

When asked what advice he’d give someone starting out, Shawn keeps it simple: “Don’t fake it. Be honest about what you don’t know. Then go learn it.”

That kind of quiet wisdom doesn’t always make headlines. But it builds careers. And lives.

And for Shawn Pugh, that’s enough.
