So, you’ve started thinking about spirituality. Maybe you’re craving something deeper. Maybe the usual grind just isn’t cutting it anymore. Or maybe you're wondering why so many people are suddenly talking about energy, intuition, and the universe like it’s completely normal.

You haven’t had any wild awakenings (that you know of), but something’s stirring. You feel a pull toward something more, more meaning, more peace, more connection. But where do you actually start?

The good news is that you don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need to meditate for three hours a day, own a singing bowl, or become a monk (unless you want to, of course).

This guide is for you, the curious soul at the very beginning of your path. Here are eight simple, grounded steps to help you start your spiritual journey and stay (mostly) sane while you do it.

(And if you’re already on the path, check out my free eBook Unlocking the Seven Stages of Spiritual Awakening here.)

1. Get curious (It’s where all great journeys begin)

You don’t need a guru; you just need an open mind. Start by following your curiosity. What draws your attention? Is it mindfulness? Past lives? Tarot cards? Quantum physics?

There’s no “right” topic to begin with; anything that sparks your inner questioner is a great starting point. Let yourself explore. Read things that intrigue you. Watch a documentary or two. This is how your personal path begins to unfold, one new discovery at a time.

2. Make friends with stillness (It’s not as boring as it sounds)

We’re used to constant noise and distraction, but spiritual growth thrives in stillness. Don’t worry; you don’t have to become a Zen master overnight. Just take a few minutes each day to sit quietly, breathe, and check in with yourself.

Stillness helps you connect with something deeper than your to-do list. Over time, it becomes a doorway to intuition, clarity, and calm, and who doesn’t need more of that?

3. Start noticing the subtle stuff

One of the first signs you’re starting to tune in spiritually is you notice, well, more. Maybe it’s your gut feelings. Maybe it’s numbers that keep repeating. Maybe you think about someone, and they suddenly call.

These little moments aren’t just coincidences; they’re breadcrumbs. Start paying attention to what feels meaningful. Write it down. Notice how your inner compass responds. This is the language of your intuition, and it gets clearer the more you listen.

4. Explore energy awareness (Yes, you have an energy field)

Spirituality isn’t just about belief; it’s about experience. One of the most accessible starting points is learning to sense and manage your energy.

Start with the basics: notice how you feel in different places or around certain people. Some situations energize you. Others leave you feeling drained. That’s real information. Try grounding yourself in nature, doing a short breathwork practice, or even just drinking water and turning off your phone for ten minutes. It all helps.

5. Gently question what you’ve been taught

You don’t need to throw your whole belief system out the window, but it’s healthy to get curious about it. Ask yourself: Does this belief actually feel true for me, or did I just inherit it?

Spiritual growth often involves letting go of old stories about who you are, what’s possible, and how the world works. It’s not about rejecting everything. It’s about consciously choosing what you want to carry forward.

6. Reconnect with your body (It’s more than just a vehicle)

Spirituality doesn’t mean floating off into the clouds. In fact, one of the most important things you can do is come into your body. Your body holds wisdom, emotion, and instinct. It responds before your mind does.

Start paying attention to it. Stretch, walk, dance, and breathe. Nourish yourself. The more grounded and cared-for your body is, the more open and resilient you’ll be as your spiritual path unfolds.

7. Find what feeds your soul (Whatever that looks like for you)

Spirituality is personal. For some, it’s yoga. For others, it’s art, music, journaling, or a long hike in nature. You don’t need to do what everyone else is doing; you just need to find what makes you feel more connected and joyful.

Try different things. Light a candle and set an intention. Take a mindful shower. Talk to your cat like it understands the secrets of the universe (because, let’s be honest, it probably does).

8. Be gentle with yourself (and don’t take it too seriously)

You’re not trying to become a perfect spiritual person; you’re just learning to live more in alignment with your soul. There will be moments of insight and moments of confusion. That’s normal.

Give yourself permission to be human. Laugh at the weird bits. Rest when you need to. And don’t worry if you’re not seeing angels or downloading ancient wisdom by week three. This is your journey, and it’s unfolding exactly as it should.

Final thoughts

Beginning your spiritual journey doesn’t mean you’re broken or lost. It means you’re ready. Ready to get curious. Ready to go deeper. Ready to remember that you’re more than just your job title, your past, or your Instagram bio.

You don’t need to have a big awakening to start walking the path. Just take one small step, and then another. The rest will meet you on the way.
