Gorgeous, have you ever found yourself starting something, feeling motivated, and then suddenly you stop? Maybe you wanted to accept this speaking engagement or sign up for this networking event, and then something pulled you back.

Sunlight glows over the horizon as ocean water splashes in the foreground, capturing droplets mid-air.

You don't know what it is, but before you know it, you give up the very thing you set out to do. And you wonder why.

This is the invisible power of procrastination.

According to research, nearly 20% of adults identify themselves as chronic procrastinators, and professionals lose an average of 55 days per year due to delay tactics and avoidance. In a nutshell, procrastination is a thief of time.

Gorgeous, this thief steals not just time but also opportunities for visibility, impact, and influence.

The honest check-in: A mental and energy audit

Each time I remind myself that procrastination is stealing my time, it's the wake-up call to have an Honest Check-In. I guess, Gorgeous, time is precious for you like me. In this case, the solution is not to push through discomfort but to have a non-judgemental mental and energy audit.

Mental check

It's a question of respecting your intellect. Procrastination is not about blaming yourself or feeling guilty; it's about a conflict between what you think and what you want to do. So, the next step is to step back and ask yourself these questions:

  • Why am I avoiding this?

  • Which part of me is uncomfortable with taking action?

  • What is this hesitation trying to tell me?

Understanding this internal dichotomy helps you discover if you're aligned with your goals or if some resistance in your subconscious is holding you back.

Energy check

Procrastination is often the result of cross purposes, two opposing emotions or energies clashing. One part of you wants to be visible, take up space, and inspire others, while another cling to fears, perfectionism, or limiting beliefs.

The result? You stagnate instead of moving forward. There are two keys to use to make this audit successful.

The first key is acknowledging your emotions and regulating your nervous system with personal development tools like Tapping or the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

Tapping is a holistic healing technique scientifically proven to effectively resolve various issues, including stress, anxiety, limiting beliefs, and much more. More than 100 studies published in peer-reviewed journals have been conducted on EFT tapping, with the majority noting its efficacy.

Tapping therapy is based on the combined principles of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology.

Tapping with the fingertips on specific body meridian points while focusing on 'negative' emotions or physical sensations helps calm the nervous system, rewire the brain to respond in healthier ways, and restore the body's energy balance.

When you stimulate these energy meridian points, you trigger the amygdala and signal it to calm down, immediately reducing your intense emotions.

The second key for this audit is not to judge yourself in the process. It is essential to avoid falling into a cycle of self-sabotage. The key is to do this audit from a space of:

  • Curiosity

  • Honesty

  • Compassion

The mind shift to overcoming procrastination is realising it is a symptom of misalignment. It's not about forcing yourself to act or falling into the cycle of blame and shame; it's about understanding how your mind operates so you can shift from hesitation to empowered action.

When your thoughts, energy, and actions are aligned, you can accomplish your visibility goals consistently and authentically and feel good about them.
