Nathan Loyd Ndungu: How Big Ideas Built a Global Career

Nathan Loyd Ndungu didn’t start his career thinking he’d become one of Kenya’s leading agribusiness entrepreneurs. But his early exposure to trade, business, and international development gave him a deep sense of purpose. “From an early age, I was driven by a passion for building and growing businesses that have a tangible impact,” he says.

Born in 1970, Nathan studied Business Management at the University of Maryland, College Park. He learned how to turn strategy into action—and those lessons stuck with him. After graduating in 1994, he stepped into the world of international business, working across different sectors and continents. His career would eventually span real estate, agriculture, trade, and even mineral processing.

Building a Real Estate Firm in Rwanda

In 1999, Nathan founded DN International, a real estate development company in Kigali, Rwanda. It was a big leap. But the risks paid off. His firm completed projects for major clients like the U.S. Embassy, UNICEF, and Coca-Cola.

Still, success didn’t come easy.

“Due to a mix of market shifts and regulatory changes, we faced cash flow challenges,” he recalls. The pressures forced him to rethink how he approached growth. That difficult period taught Nathan something essential: “Failure is not a dead-end but a learning curve.”

He pivoted. And from the lessons of real estate, he found a new path in global agriculture.

Leading Kenya’s Avocado Export Industry

After real estate, Nathan turned his attention to agribusiness. In 2011, he founded Avoveg Health Kenya Ltd and later Avoveg Health LLC in the U.S. His goal? To connect small-scale avocado farmers in Kenya to global buyers.

It wasn’t just about trade. It was about training, sustainability, and fair pricing. "We’re not just exporting avocados—we’re building systems that empower farmers," Nathan explains.

Today, Avoveg is ranked among Kenya’s top 10 avocado exporters to European and Middle Eastern markets. The company runs a modern processing facility and works with hundreds of farmers, giving them access to international markets.

How Setbacks Shaped a Career in Strategy

Nathan’s work in the Democratic Republic of Congo also added a layer to his expertise. As a consultant for Eurotrade International, he helped optimize large-scale mineral processing systems. The role sharpened his skills in technical strategy and system design.

But it also highlighted something deeper. “Every industry—whether real estate or mining—has its challenges. Resilience and adaptability are the keys to making it through,” Nathan says.

That mindset became a major theme in his life.

Writing the Book on Failure and Reinvention

After navigating so many ups and downs, Nathan wrote a book: My Successful Failures.

In it, he shares real stories from his journey—about the real estate setbacks, the pivots into new industries, and the lessons that came with them. “Instead of viewing failures as defeats, I embraced them as opportunities to learn and innovate,” he says.

The book became a way to teach others what he had learned through experience. It wasn’t about theory. It was about real moments—wins, losses, and the mindset to keep going.

Launching a Global Consulting Practice

In 2025, Nathan launched Loyd Global Consulting, his strategic advisory firm. Based in the Washington, DC Metro Area, the company offers consulting services across New York, Georgia, Delaware, and beyond.

His focus now is helping other businesses expand globally, build sustainable systems, and align their goals with long-term impact.

“Our goal is to guide companies toward ethical growth,” he says. “Success is not just profit. It’s the ability to build something that lasts and creates value for others.”

Faith, Mentorship, and the Bigger Picture

Nathan’s philosophy is rooted in faith and service. He speaks openly about the role of biblical principles in his business decisions. "Trusting in God’s plan gives me clarity, especially in uncertain times," he shares.

He mentors young entrepreneurs, supports small-scale farmers, and contributes to community programs. "If I can inspire others to build with purpose, then I know I’m doing the right thing," Nathan says.

He also follows a disciplined routine inspired by The 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma. Early mornings, focused work, reading, and fitness help him stay sharp and balanced.

What Entrepreneurs Can Learn from Nathan Loyd Ndungu

Nathan’s story is not about overnight success. It’s about long-term vision, trial and error, and sticking with your purpose—even when things go wrong.

His advice to others? “Turn obstacles into opportunities. Every challenge is a setup for a comeback.”

He’s seen how small ideas, when guided by strong values and strategic thinking, can scale into something global. From real estate in Rwanda to exports from Kenya, and now consulting across continents—his journey is one of learning, adapting, and always reaching forward.

A Global Thinker with Local Roots

Nathan Loyd Ndungu has lived many chapters. Each one taught him something new. What ties them together is his belief in business as a force for good.

He’s not just growing companies. He’s growing people, communities, and ideas. And that may be his greatest success of all.

“Success is about creating value, empowering others, and learning from every step along the way.” – Nathan Loyd Ndungu
