Jesse Vierstra: Building Dreams from the Ground Up

Jesse Vierstra grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho, where his family worked in the dairy business. Those early years were a blend of long days on the farm and free hours spent outside. He learned about responsibility through chores, but he also developed a love for the wild. “I was raised with a rod in one hand and a rifle in the other,” Jesse says. Hunting, fishing, and golf were his constant companions.

By high school, Jesse was more than just an outdoorsman. He was also an athlete, competing in golf and even going to state. “The discipline you learn in sports sticks with you,” he explains. “Golf taught me patience and focus. Hunting taught me persistence. Both are skills I’ve carried into my career.”

Education and the Seeds of Entrepreneurship

Jesse attended the University of Idaho, where he balanced his academic work with his passion for the outdoors. College wasn’t just about the classroom—it was also where he started shaping the entrepreneurial mindset that would later guide his career.

“I’ve always had ideas bigger than myself,” Jesse says. “Even back then, I was thinking about how to turn hard work into something lasting.”

Those early visions would become reality years later when he branched out into construction and business ownership.

Starting a Business in 2018

In 2018, Jesse founded Iron Oaks Custom Homes. What began as a small venture has grown into a company that has built over 50 homes. His approach has always been simple: put in the work, pay attention to detail, and deliver what people actually need.

“Construction is about more than lumber and nails,” Jesse says. “It’s about building trust. Every home represents a family’s dream, and you can’t take that lightly.”

Alongside the homebuilding business, Jesse also expanded into other industries, owning an HVAC company and building several other ventures. His career has been marked not by a single business, but by an ability to see opportunity and act on it.

Big Ideas That Made an Impact

Jesse doesn’t see himself only as a builder of homes—he’s a builder of ideas. One of his proudest projects involved bringing solar energy solutions to agriculture. “I wanted to create something that could help farmers save money and also move toward sustainability,” he says. The platform he helped create bridged a gap between renewable energy and traditional farming, showing his ability to think beyond just one industry.

These kinds of projects highlight his career philosophy: work hard, think big, and look for solutions that outlast the moment.

Life Beyond Work

Outside of business, Jesse keeps close to the things that have always mattered to him—family, faith, and the outdoors. He spends time volunteering in his church and in the community, tying his success back to service. “If you’re not giving back, then what’s the point of success?” he asks.

Jesse also keeps golf close to his heart. He founded the Ryan Franklin Memorial Golf Tournament, a community event that honors a friend and gives people a chance to connect through sport. “Golf has always been more than a game for me,” he says. “It’s where relationships are built.”

Writing, Hunting, and the Search for Clarity

While his professional life is full, Jesse continues to return to the wilderness as a source of balance. He has spent over two decades hunting and fishing across the American West. From elk in mountain basins to steelhead rivers, his stories are rooted in both grit and respect for the land.

He even captured his reflections in a book called Under the Red Oak Tree. Writing, like hunting and business, is another way he channels patience and focus. “The outdoors clears my head,” Jesse says. “It’s where I find clarity and purpose.”

Lessons Learned Along the Way

Looking back, Jesse sees his path as one built on determination and adaptability. From growing up in a family business to building companies of his own, the lessons have been consistent. “You can’t wait for the perfect time,” he says. “You start, you learn, and you grow.”

His story isn’t about shortcuts or easy wins. It’s about showing up day after day and turning ideas into real results. Whether it’s in the woods with a bow, on the course with a set of clubs, or on a job site with a hammer, Jesse Vierstra has built a career—and a life—on vision and persistence.
