Most of the time we are disconnected, yes that is right. I am not referring to physical technology here, like phones or computers, I am actually talking about “inner technology.”

Before I keep going, let’s see what the word connection means. According to the dictionary connection means “the state of being related to someone or something else”.

Well, connection is a “state” and the question is how many times a day are we in this state? Probably a few times and maybe not at all.

In my opinion, being connected is much more than being “related”. It means being in the present, in the now, really enjoying what we are experiencing every second of our existence in this world.

We have the tendency of thinking about what to do next, what to say next, instead of being fully present at the moment, being in tune with others and with the events we are living.

The funny thing is that when our experiences are shocking or sad, we seem to be more “connected” with them, but when those situations are happy ones, we forget quickly, and therefore, we disconnect quickly too.

Of course, we need to connect with sad experiences, because this is a way for us to grow, however, happy experiences deserve the same level of attachment as they have the same potential for growth. By paying attention to the happy moments of our lives, connecting with them on deeper levels, we are in a position of making the decision of adding those happy events to our priority list, which in turn, makes us connect more with our hearts and reach a state of alignment within ourselves.

Being connected is shown to us by nature. A tree grows its roots and extends them to find water and other roots, its branches go up, looking for the sun, air, and rain, and the tree finds its place within the whole, connecting from the inside out. In the same way, we are connected to everything, what happens internally is reflected externally, however, we need to have the awareness of this.

Enjoying the present moment elevates our consciousness, it makes us aware of our link with the totality because ultimately we are in the universe and the universe is in us.

Our body is part of this equation too as every bit of it is intertwined, our cells work in conjunction and when illness happens it is a sign of disconnection. The universe we see outside is very much rooted in us. Cells, atoms, and particles are in a constant dance of alignment and rebirth.

In spiritual terms, connection is synchronizing our inner self with our outer self. We should start by connecting with our heart, then our brain, and extend this connection to the Source (God, Great Architect, One, the name of your choice). In other words, we should create a flow of light between the Source, brain, and heart. Experience such flow, will give us a sense of belonging to the big picture. How?

Here is a short and powerful meditation to start the process of inner connection.

Flow of Light Meditation©

Sit down, close your eyes, and start feeling your body by being aware of it. Pay attention to your breathing, breathe a bit slower and deeper than normal. Feel your heart palpitating and visualize it full of light, now connect your heart with your brain through a ray of light, keep breathing in and out from that light, you have now created a flow, heart, and brain united by a ray of light. It is time to visualize a very bright sun above you (The Source), now a ray of light comes out of your brain and connects with that sun. Another flowing link has been created now and you are breathing light from the Source, which passes through your brain and sits in your heart area. Keep inhaling and exhaling, feeling your connection with the light, and come back from this meditation when you are ready to do so.

Inner connection is essential to advance in our path of becoming better human beings. We can connect from heart to heart and do good in unimaginable ways, we can actually create a world of peace and love.
