Struggling with tinnitus, dizziness, or vertigo, but doctors say everything is fine? Learn how mind-body medicine explains medically unexplained symptoms like neural circuit dizziness, tinnitus, or vertigo, and how you can start to heal.

A woman in a white shirt leans against a wall with one hand on her forehead, looking distressed. Bright, blurred room in the background.

Have you been told, "Everything looks normal"?

If you’ve ever said, “I have symptoms and no one knows what’s wrong with me,” you’re not alone. For many people, symptoms like dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, or a sense of spinning, eye symptoms of blurriness, and being unable to look at screens can be frightening and confusing, especially when medical tests come back clear.

You may have seen your GP, had scans, ENT assessments, and been given the all clear but still feel no closer to an answer. That’s where a mind-body approach to these symptoms can provide a new and hopeful perspective

What is dizziness? What is vertigo? What is tinnitus?

  • Dizziness is a general term for sensations like feeling lightheaded, unsteady, or like you might faint.

  • Vertigo is a more specific sensation that you or your surroundings are spinning, even when you’re still.

  • Tinnitus is the perception of sound in your ears or head when there is no external sound present. It’s often described as ringing, buzzing, or hissing in one or both ears, intermittently or constantly.

These symptoms can feel intense and disabling. It’s completely normal to fear that something serious is going on. Before considering a mind-body approach, it’s important to consult your doctor and rule out underlying medical conditions.

Once a serious illness is ruled out, the next question is: Could your symptoms be coming from your nervous system, not your organs?

When the hardware is fine, but the software misfires

Neural circuit symptoms like dizziness, tinnitus, or vertigo occur when your brain’s software—how it interprets sensory and emotional signals goes into overdrive. There’s no damage to the ears, brain, or eyes. But the danger system in your brain stays switched on, creating real, distressing symptoms.

Other neuroplastic symptoms can include:

  • Light sensitivity or visual distortions, “I cannot look at my screens.”

  • Feelings of swaying or being on a boat: “The walls or floor are movin.g

  • Eye strain or difficulty focusing

  • Head pressure, ear fullness, or tinnitus

These are medically unexplained symptoms, but they are very real. The good news? They are reversible with a mind-body approach.

A mind-body medicine approach to healing

Healing starts with education. Understanding how your brain and nervous system create symptoms is not only empowering, it’s therapeutic. Your system is stuck in “protect mode,” and once it feels safe, symptoms often begin to ease.

Initial tools that help include:

  • Breathwork and grounding

  • Gentle movement

  • Mindfulness practices

  • Journaling or expressive writing

But tools are only part of the picture.

Exploring emotional roots and personality patterns

Many people with neural circuit symptoms are:

  • People pleasers

  • Highly conscientious

  • Perfectionistic or self-critical

  • Under chronic stress or conflict

Unprocessed emotions, especially fear, guilt, or suppressed anger, can keep your nervous system activated. So can external pressures like work, relationships, or trauma.

Ask yourself:

  • What was happening in my life when symptoms started?

  • Have I always felt pressure to be perfect, helpful, or strong?

  • What would I say to a friend going through this?

  • If a child I know now experienced what I did growing up, how would I feel?

Self-compassion is essential. Be curious, not critical. The body holds stories we haven’t yet told ourselves.

You are not broken – you’re wired for healing

Tinnitus, dizziness, and vertigo can feel terrifying when no one can explain them. But through the lens of mind-body medicine, we begin to understand the nervous system’s role and how it can be calmed and rewired.

If you’re struggling with medically unexplained symptoms, there is a path forward. Healing is possible when you combine knowledge, self-awareness, emotional insight, and nervous system support.
