Joe Patneaude, Executive Coach

Introduce yourself! Please tell us about yourself and your life, so we can get to know you better.

I’m Joe Patneaude, a business strategist, executive coach, and the creator of the STAR Scalability℠ Method. I live in Florida with my husband, Chad, and our home is filled with laughter, love, and more than a few visits from our four-legged friends. After spending over 25 years in the financial services industry, rising from a mailroom position to holding C-suite roles, I discovered that what I loved most wasn’t just solving problems, but helping people see what’s possible when strategy meets clarity. Outside of work, I enjoy mentoring, speaking, and soaking up the Florida sunshine whenever I can.

What inspired you to become a coach and create this business?

After building and selling multiple businesses, I realized that too many owners were being sold one-size-fits-all success formulas that didn’t account for the reality of running a business, especially in complex, regulated industries like financial services. I saw a real need for coaching that met people where they are, respected what they’ve built, and helped them scale without losing their identity. That’s what led me to create the STAR Scalability℠ Method. It’s a way to help leaders grow strategically, without sacrificing their values, culture, or peace of mind.

How would you describe your unique approach to helping clients?

I take a grounded, personalized approach rooted in the STAR Scalability℠ framework: Strategy, Team, Assets, and Rewards. My clients don’t need another catchphrase or copy-and-paste plan. They need someone who understands the operational and emotional demands of leadership and can provide clear, actionable steps tailored to their business. I also bring a deep understanding of compliance and industry-specific challenges, especially in financial services, which helps clients avoid costly missteps.

What types of transformations do your clients typically experience?

Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed or stuck. They’re growing but not sustainably. Through our work, they often see measurable financial growth, but also something just as important: they reclaim time. We work on delegation, team alignment, and smarter allocation of resources, which gives them space to lead more effectively and live more intentionally. The transformation isn’t just in their business, it’s in how they feel about their role in it.

What’s one common challenge your clients face, and how do you help them overcome it?

Skepticism. Many of my clients are initially unsure whether coaching can really help them, especially if they’ve had a bad experience or assume that outside advice won’t translate to their unique situation. I overcome that by listening first. I focus on understanding their reality, not imposing mine. Once they see that I truly understand the pressures they face and that my insights are grounded in real-world experience, not theory that skepticism starts to dissolve.

How has your own personal journey shaped your coaching style?

My journey from the mailroom to the executive suite taught me the value of every perspective within an organization. I’ve worked alongside entry-level staff and executive boards, and I’ve seen how miscommunication and misalignment can break even the best strategies. I bring that understanding into every coaching conversation. My style is direct but compassionate, and always tailored to the person in front of me. I know what it’s like to lead through uncertainty, and I coach from that place of experience, not assumption.

If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why?

I’d challenge the deeply rooted habit of reactionary thinking. Too often, business owners wait until things are broken before they seek support. There's also a tendency to cling to what worked in the past, even when it's clearly not working anymore. The “we’ve always done it this way” mindset keeps too many leaders stuck. I’d love to see more proactive, strategic thinking embedded into the culture of leadership, especially in industries like financial services, where the pace of change isn’t slowing down.

What advice would you give someone who feels stuck but is ready to grow?

If what you’re doing isn’t working, try something new. Don’t wait for things to fall apart before you take action. Growth doesn’t always mean doing more; it often means doing things differently. You don’t have to figure it out alone. Get support, get perspective, and take one aligned step forward. That’s where real momentum begins.
