Chronic stress and trauma affect every aspect of our lives: our mental clarity, physical health, emotional resiliency, energetic field, and spiritual connections. Let’s face it, we live in a fast-paced world, experiencing daily stressors, making it difficult to get through the day. We also experience trauma, whether that’s a single event or multiple, repeated traumatic events. We often keep our stress and trauma hidden away in an attempt to function in our daily lives.

Unresolved trauma and stress impact our ability to cope, to think clearly, and to make good decisions. We can experience a whole host of issues including anxiety, depression, digestive issues, cardiovascular diseases, insomnia, chronic headaches, fatigue and pain.

Conventional interventions like therapy and medication can be highly effective, but they don’t go far enough. We can’t simply take a pill to take away our anger or sadness; we can’t talk ourselves out of feeling emotions; we can’t just wake up one morning and decide to be “happy”. We need to approach wellness from a whole being perspective. Therapy and medication cannot address the deeper energetic imbalances or spiritual disconnection that results from chronic stress and trauma.

And this is where energy healing can help! Our body, mind, emotions and thoughts are all deeply connected, forming an intricate energy field. Energy healing influences this interconnected field, enhancing our physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and energetic well-being.

Energy healing is an ancient practice found in cultures around the world, offering a powerful and complementary approach to holistic health and well-being.

There are many different energetic-based modalities including Quantum-Touch®, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch®, Rahanni Celestial Healing®, Healing Touch®, and others. Their general aim is to restore the natural flow of energy, remove blockages, stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (to calm the nervous system and reduce cortisol levels), and encourage the body's natural healing processes.

Energy healing can offer profound relief from stress and trauma by addressing the energetic imbalances that often underlie these conditions. Individuals report feeling a deep sense of relaxation, which helps to release stored tension and emotional blockages.

Modern research is beginning to explore these practices' scientific basis, revealing how they can impact the body and mind, showing that they can help reduce anxiety, depression, PTSD symptoms, and more.

One study published by the John Hopkins University Press found that college participants who used HeartMath® tools in conjunction with counselling reported a significantly greater reduction in anxiety symptoms, both statistically and clinically, compared to those who used counselling alone.¹

Another study looked at Therapeutic Touch (TT) treatments for pain and quality of life for persons with fibromyalgia syndrome. Those who received TT had a statistically significant decrease in pain as well as significant improvement in quality of life.²

A third study investigated the effects of Reiki on 46 patients undergoing knee replacement surgery, finding that those receiving Reiki showed significant reductions in pain, blood pressure, respiration rate, and anxiety.³

In my practice, most of my clients also utilize other forms of healing such as counselling and bodywork along with at-home tools to reduce anxiety and stress. You can incorporate a simple healing technique into your own daily routine to help with anxiety and overall stress. The exercise below calms your nervous system and can help you focus your thoughts, make better decisions, and even sleep better.

  • Notice how you feel, physically and/or mentally and/or emotionally

  • Slow your breathing down just a little and take slightly deeper breaths

  • Focus on your breath flowing in and out of your heart area

  • Spend 2 to 3 minutes breathing this way

  • Notice how you feel afterward

If you are looking to explore a new dimension of healing, energy healing may be the key to unlocking deeper resilience and peace. If you’re interested in experiencing a session with me, you can book an appointment here.
