Building a thriving online business doesn’t need to follow the cookie-cutter models that dominate the internet. If you’ve ever felt like your unique skills, passions, or message doesn’t quite fit into the traditional business strategies, you’re not alone.

Augusta, a trauma therapist with a special interest in craft psychology and knitting, was in the same position. She had no online presence or sales, but in just four months, she went on to generate over $50,000.

So, what was the key to her success? It wasn’t about following the typical hustle. It was about aligning her business with her unique strengths, passions, and values.

In this post, I’ll break down the six-step formula we used to help Augusta build a magnetic online business and explain how you can apply these principles to your own journey.

1. Crafting a powerful message

The first step in building an online business that attracts the right clients is defining your message. For Augusta, this was crucial. As a trauma therapist with a niche in craft psychology and knitting, she needed to articulate her unique offering in a way that spoke directly to her ideal clients.

Rather than using jargon or complex terms, we focused on creating a clear, authentic message that highlighted how her skills helped clients with emotional healing through craft psychology. By leaning into her expertise and passion for knitting, Augusta created a message that resonated deeply with the people she wanted to serve.

2. Identifying your market and ideal client

Once you have a message that clearly speaks to your audience, the next step is identifying who your dream clients are. For Augusta, we took time to understand her ideal client’s pain points and desires.

We discovered that her audience was mostly women who had lived long, full lives and had experienced the stresses of everyday life, even if they hadn't undergone major trauma.

These women were interested in knitting not just as a hobby but as a way to find peace and emotional balance. By understanding her clients’ unique needs, we created a targeted marketing approach that spoke to them directly.

3. Creating magnetic offers

With a clear message and an understanding of the market, it was time to design offers that would attract clients. The key here was to offer transformational experiences that aligned with Augusta’s strengths and passions.

We developed two core offers:

  1. Knitting retreats: These retreats offered intimate, in-person healing experiences where clients could connect, relax, and transform their emotional states.

  2. Online programs: For clients who couldn’t attend the retreats, we created an online version of the healing experience, allowing them to engage with Augusta's therapeutic methods from the comfort of their own homes.

Both offers were designed with specific transformations in mind, which made it easy for potential clients to see the value and feel compelled to join.

4. Authentic marketing that aligns with you

Marketing is often where many entrepreneurs get stuck. We’re told to use “high-conversion strategies” and “follow the latest trends,” but what really works is marketing that feels authentic and aligned with you.

For Augusta, we created a relaxed launch strategy that included giveaways, organic marketing in her Facebook group, and email marketing. This approach allowed her to nurture her audience in a way that felt natural to her while still building trust and connection.

Rather than pushing sales, Augusta invited her clients into her world. She shared stories about how knitting helped her own healing journey and used her unique knowledge of craft psychology to educate her audience. This authentic marketing strategy drove engagement and attracted clients who were aligned with her values.

5. Soulful selling

Selling doesn’t have to be pushy. The most successful sales happen when you align your selling process with your values and communicate your offers in a way that feels good to you and your clients.

For Augusta, this meant focusing on inviting people into a transformational experience rather than pressuring them to make a purchase. We crafted a soft-sell launch strategy where Augusta would provide value-driven content in her Facebook group and email list with a gentle nudge toward the offer.

The result? A high conversion rate without feeling like a “sales pitch.” People wanted to work with her because they trusted her and felt connected to her mission.

6. Customized business strategy

The final piece of the puzzle was to customize the business strategy to Augusta’s unique personality and strengths. Many entrepreneurs fall into the trap of following the latest trend or copying others, but Augusta’s success came from doing what felt best for her.

For example, while some may think that podcasting or constantly sending out emails is the key to success, Augusta thrived by showing up in her Facebook group and using simple email marketing. This approach was not only aligned with her strengths but also made her audience feel seen and heard.

Conclusion: The magic of alignment

Augusta’s story proves that you don’t need to follow a cookie-cutter business strategy to create a successful and soul-aligned business. It’s all about understanding your unique strengths, crafting a message that speaks to your ideal clients, and developing a marketing and sales strategy that feels authentic and aligned with your values.
