Have you ever heard the proverb, “The grass is always greener on the other side”? All through childhood, you looked forward to reaching adulthood so you can do what you want, the way you want to when you want to.

Two men walking on green grass during daytime

As a grownup, how often do you think the same thing you thought as a kid? “I can’t do what I want to because I must do the things I have to.”

It seems whether we’re kids or adults, we’re wanting something we believe can’t be possible.

Sometimes children cry over some of the easiest things to fix even though it may feel like the world is coming to an end.

Can you remember a moment that felt that way?

Have you ever felt like that as a grownup?

It’s been said, “Kids are resilient; don’t worry, they bounce back easier than adults do.” Why is that?

They take risks more often without saying, “I can’t. What if I get hurt?

The moment kids take a tumble, tears often well up in their tiny little eyes and you may do your best to make them laugh instead so they can be happy, confident, and optimistic.

What is it that makes this feel harder for you to do as you get older?

When something makes you want to wish for “greener grass”, do you feel reluctant or ready to try what’s uncomfortable?

Instead of submitting to the everyday stressors that life seems to have an endless supply of, access that childhood resilience again so you can remember how to laugh even when it feels like it hurts.

“Life is ten percent what happens and ninety percent how you respond to it.” Lou Holtz.

The next time you wish for “greener grass”, remind yourself that the seeds of your happiness may be hiding deep within. You have the power to water those seeds and grow “greener grass” beneath your feet.

Schedule something special for yourself to begin nurturing the seeds that will grow into the type of every day you want to experience.

Lynn Lessell is an entrepreneur who worked while raising two wonderful sons, though her journey to becoming an award-winning Top Concierge Coach was not easy.

“It wasn't until I hit rock bottom that I realized what I had been missing all along,” Lynn says as she reflects on her journey. Like many professionals, she once thought the key to success was pleasing everyone around her and fulfilling external expectations at the expense of her well-being. However, this mindset only led to burnout. She began to see the toll that daily stress takes, not just on the body but on the mind.

“Stress is like a toxic invisible force, but you can't fight it until you recognize it's there.”

Stress can quietly erode one's sense of self, but you have 100% power to take back control of the life you want by transforming your resilience.

Lynn’s concierge coaching provides 24/7 access via text and email because she believes life doesn’t happen once a week. She is co-author of  The Grass Grows Where I Am and the upcoming release of Merging Me, and is the founder of Inner Power Partners®, a community for professionals with locations in 10 cities and growing.
