Chris Pennisi, Business Coach and Consultant

Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.

My name is Chris Pennisi, and I'm a 40-year-old family man and business professional. Over the years, I have worked with enterprise-level clients to small Mum & Dad shops. I've secured large government grants and small local community projects. I've worked across sales, marketing, and tech, and have enjoyed every minute of it.

What inspired you to start Boss Consulting, and what gap were you aiming to fill in the market?

I believe in life we are provided pieces of a puzzle, and it's up to us to put that puzzle together to create something spectacular and to give our life, and those around us, meaning. Having worked eight years in media and eleven years in tech, I felt it was time for a change. I wanted to spend more quality time with my family, travel, and provide more for my clients. Boss Consulting was launched to achieve all of this and more, to allow me the family flexibility I needed, but also to be all I could be for my clients.

So many people struggle in business, and they are flooded with quick-fix schemes. I wanted to be a voice for my clients, to help guide them along the way and assist with growth, as well as putting out fires when they arose.

What’s the biggest challenge most of your clients face, and how do you help them overcome it?

Clients these days have tremendous vision and great business concepts; however, they struggle with execution. Being a business owner is a daunting and challenging task, and covers so many aspects: marketing, finances, staffing, logistics, and everything else that comes with owning a business.

Some people believe that if you build it, people will just come, but sadly, these days, there is so much noise that it's too easy to get drowned out. I help businesses understand where their trouble points are and work to make them better.

What sets Boss Consulting apart from other business coaching or consulting services?

A lot of other consulting and coaching businesses tend to focus on a niche industry or just on a particular business topic, e.g., marketing or finance. I take a whole approach to understand where a business's pain points are and work with the business to put strategies in place to resolve any roadblocks.

If you could give one piece of advice to an emerging business leader, what would it be?

I go by the mantra "What's the worst that can happen?" and "What's the best that can happen?" Too many people fear taking the step, fear the unknown, and are happy with the status quo. I believe if you don't reach for new opportunities and learn along the way, you will be left behind.

If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why?

I think more and more people have become lazy and cut corners. After COVID, people found new ways to deliver the bare minimum, such as not getting back to staff or customers by call or email, slacking off in meetings, and doing the bare minimum to get by on projects. This then puts more stress on owners and the team, and delivers less for customers, which in turn potentially damages the business.
