Taking care of your health is crucial, but it is essential to approach it with balance and perspective. Sure, there's a lot of talk about the harmful effects of sweeteners and seed oils, but let us zoom out for a moment.

First off, being overweight or out of shape poses far greater risks to your health than indulging in a sweetener or cooking with seed oils. Prioritise the big picture: getting enough sleep, managing stress and maintaining cardiovascular health are fundamental to your well-being. Neglecting these aspects can have serious repercussions on your health.

Let's address the elephant in the room: the obsession with minor health concerns blown out of proportion on social media and in the fitness industry. While sweeteners and seed oils might be hot topics, there are much more significant issues at play. Eating disorders, like Orthorexia Nervosa, often fly under the radar but can wreak havoc on both physical and mental health.

Orthorexia involves an unhealthy fixation on eating "clean" foods while disregarding the importance of balance and moderation. It is crucial to recognise that a perfect diet is not the end goal; instead, strive for balance in all aspects of life, including diet and exercise.

We need to shift the focus away from labelling foods as inherently good or bad and instead emphasise moderation and gradual improvements. Judging others based on their dietary choices without understanding their journey is counterproductive and can lead to unnecessary guilt and shame.

As health and fitness professionals, our role is not to dictate what people should or should not eat but to support them in making sustainable lifestyle changes. Let us foster a culture of acceptance and gradual progress, where small changes over time lead to significant improvements in overall well-being.

So, go ahead, enjoy that croissant guilt-free, and remember, progress is about balance, not perfection.
