Elliot Ross Surgenor, Fly Business Aviation

Tell us a bit about your story how did you build your career until this point?

I was born on the South Coast of Spain and come from a British and Mexican background. Travel has always been a core part of my identity from a young age, I was fascinated by movement, logistics, and the beauty of exploring the world. In 2015, I received a LinkedIn message inviting me to work for a large business aviation company. That opportunity became the beginning of everything. I dove in with ambition, quickly noticed inefficiencies in the industry, and knew there was space to create something different, something better. That spark led me to launch Fly Business Aviation in 2018.

What inspired you to create Fly Business Aviation?

As I grew in the industry, I realized how many opportunities were being overlooked. Communication was often slow, prices were inconsistent, and personalization was limited. I believed we could build something more efficient, transparent, and elevated all while maintaining warmth and human touch. I wanted to create a brand that combined operational excellence with emotional intelligence. That’s where Fly Business was born.

What sets Fly Business Aviation apart from others in the industry?

We focus on building real relationships with our clients. Most of our passengers are business owners, athletes, public figures, or families traveling for important occasions. We learn their habits, their preferences, and we adapt to them. That attention to detail is what creates loyalty. We also go beyond the flight itself with Air Dining Cabo, our luxury catering service, and Lusso Jet Design, our jet interior division, we manage every touchpoint of the journey.

Tell us more about your podcast why did you start it?

The idea came from wanting to open up the world of private aviation to show what really happens behind the scenes. It’s a highly specialized industry that often feels inaccessible, but there are so many lessons in leadership, service, and innovation that can benefit others. With the podcast, I get to share those stories, bring in voices from our ecosystem, and connect with a wider audience beyond social media.

What’s been your greatest career achievement so far?

Quitting my job and starting Fly Business. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made full of risk and uncertainty but I trusted my vision. Today, seeing the company grow across countries, gaining the trust of clients worldwide, and building a loyal team makes every challenge worth it.

What makes the in-flight experience unique for your clients?

It’s all about personalization. From a fully stocked premium bar to curated menus and an attentive crew, we aim to make each flight unforgettable. It’s not just about luxury it’s about comfort, anticipation, and creating a space where people feel seen and valued.

How do you maintain balance as a CEO, husband, and father?

It’s not always easy. The aviation industry is demanding it requires quick decision-making and constant availability. But my family keeps me grounded. My perfect Sunday is simple: lunch with my wife and kids. I also make time for golf, travel, and giving back especially through my local orphanage, which is something very close to my heart.

What advice would you give to future entrepreneurs?

Know your industry, but also know how to add value to it. Be humble, stay curious, and constantly improve what already exists. Find strong partners and never stop learning. Knowledge and consistency are what separate ideas from execution.

What role has social media played in Fly Business' growth?

It’s been a key pillar of our brand. It allows us to showcase who we are, not just what we offer. Clients today want connection, not just contact. Through platforms like Instagram, we’ve been able to humanize our company and stay top of mind with our audience.

What’s next for Fly Business Aviation?

We’re growing our fleet, aiming for six aircraft in the next two years, and expanding our base in the U.S. We also plan to continue investing in technology and content creation. Long-term, the goal is to turn Fly Business into a holding group that covers the full scope of luxury aviation – from charter to design, catering, and more.

And finally… What’s your definition of success?

Success is when the grass doesn’t look greener on the other side.
