I am the founder of The Simon Lau Centre. I was born in China and, from a young age, educated by Buddhist monks. This instilled in me the belief that the minds that coordinate the activities of violence can coordinate the activities of cooperation. Everyone has an equal right to eliminate suffering and seek happiness.

In a world increasingly disconnected and digitised, finding and nurturing a meaningful relationship—one that fosters harmony and enriches your life, is becoming harder than ever. The ease of swiping left or right has reduced dating to a mechanical transaction, stripping it of depth, empathy, and emotional resonance.

Yet the essence of a true intimate relationship lies in mutual recognition: a knowing that, despite our imperfections, we are deeply seen and unconditionally accepted. At its core, life is a network of relationships, with ourselves, with others, and with the world. When these relationships flourish, we thrive; when they fracture, our inner landscape mirrors that pain.
Love can make everything feel temporarily perfect, flooding us with vitality. But even the most passionate union can dissolve into conflict, confusion, and emotional isolation. To move from chaos to clarity, we must look beyond surface tensions and into our own character, our true nature. It’s far easier to spot faults in others than to examine our own shadows. Possessiveness, resentment, the urge to argue, blame, or withdraw, these can quickly turn love into turmoil.
Astrological insights on love
In Chinese Astrology, certain stars illuminate relationship dynamics and emotional tendencies:
Astrological star meaning & influence
Lonely star: Symbolises religious devotion or solitary tendencies. When not balanced by spiritual practice, it may lead to isolation and aversion to marriage.
Authority star: Artistic and influential. Favourable alignment brings fame; unfavourable ones amplify pride and emotional distance.
Angel/marriage star: When aligned and elementally favourable, it signifies a nurturing spouse who brings success and emotional support.
Wealth star: Tied to marital prosperity. Mutual effort between partners under this star can generate shared abundance.
Gossip star: Suggests relational friction; may bring frequent misunderstandings or quarrels.
Astrology meets compatibility
Compatibility isn’t only emotional, it can be elemental. People who need the water element may benefit from relationships with those born in November, December, January, April, or September. Even if a person isn't born in those months, their life journey during these times could bring prosperity, though not necessarily harmony.
Astrology hints that while timing influences what someone brings into your life, it doesn’t guarantee peace. Especially for couples with children, persistent conflict despite favourable alignments can undermine the relationship’s foundation.
Mental attitude and self-mastery
Knowledge is a treasure, but practice is the key.” Wisdom is earned, not memorised, but lived through experience.
Do the right thing at the right time in the right place: that’s wisdom in motion.
True joy comes not from chasing freedom, but from loving what you do. Joy is a compass.
Life as a journey
We often mistake destinations for fulfilment. But the ship, the journey, is the spiritual practice. The shore is not the end, nor the goal. Responsibility lies in how we sail, not where we land.
The journey is everything that is happening to us. It is the people we meet and the things we do in this lifetime.
Meeting the moment: How every encounter shapes us
Every experience, every person we meet, none of it is random. These moments are part of the tapestry of our journey, woven from seeds planted long before today. That stranger you meet or the conversation you didn’t expect. It may be karma calling. A chance to repay a debt, to learn something vital, or to offer healing.
But even if the encounter is written into our life's roadmap, how we respond is entirely up to us. That’s where our power lives, not in controlling events, but in choosing our reaction. And that choice is shaped by our habits, our past, and our inner clarity.
To shift from reaction to intention, we need to see clearly and act deliberately. That means breaking free from old patterns; patterns we’ve carried, perhaps for lifetimes. Without awareness and willpower, we repeat the same cycle again and again.
This is why clarity is everything. If we react from confusion, we're not living, we're simply repeating. But when we meet the moment with a calm mind and open heart, we unlock the chance to rewrite the story.
Every interaction holds this possibility. Every day offers the invitation: respond, not react. Be the author, not just the actor. And as we do, we don’t just change the moment, we shape the future.
The illusion of wealth
People pursue wealth and romance, believing they bring happiness. But what happens when those things don’t? If love and money do not generate joy, then we are chasing shadows.
Money can buy a luxurious bed, but not restful sleep.
It can buy company, but not loyalty or love.
It can buy medicine, but not health.
It can buy a house, but not a home.
So what truly matters? Joy. It is the beginning, the middle, and the end. To abandon joy is to trade the source for the illusion.
Competition
In comparing ourselves to others, we risk cultivating discontent. It would be ideal to live untouched by such impulses, but few of us do. Competition, often uninvited, finds its way into our lives regardless of intention. Knowing this, we must choose our battles wisely, resisting the urge to engage in those already lost. Above all, we should never suffer under the weight of others’ expectations.
Life is an art – the art of living. Each of us is the artist of our own existence, and our expression is a singular masterpiece. There’s no need to mimic others when your life is the original.

I trained in martial arts and qigong. The discipline training became an invaluable tool to teach me how I could overcome my fear of violence and allow myself to perform in everyday life in a more spontaneous and constructive way. In keeping with the Warrior tradition, I have focused my life as much on being a healer as being a martial artist. I am a sincere practitioner of qigong, Chinese herbal medicine, and Chinese astrology, believing that physical, emotional, and spiritual health are essential for self-development and inner awareness. Everyone has the potential to improve and change because each new day represents a new life. Every hour of our time is a gift.
