You’re an Executive Development Facilitator and CEO of AddingZEROS. Can you tell us more about your work and how you ended up where you are today?

AddingZEROS is a global Executive and Organizational Development firm with 30 facilitators located in 9 countries. Me and my facilitators help CEOs and executive teams with Strategic Thinking and Execution Planning. This includes organizational discipline and executive coaching and development.

My understanding and influence in the training and development industry has not only grown businesses and organizations but I have helped over 500 coaches with their personal and business growth.

The AddingZEROS concepts that I created are driven off a belief and practice of making complex topics simple. I believe a great business is defined as one that is sustainable, predictable, stable, consistent and has an emotional connection. In order to achieve that definition, executives and teams must have organizational and personal discipline.

AddingZEROS definitely has a focus on growing zeros in revenues and profits. My view is that teams should be growing zeros (AddingZEROS) in every aspect of an organization – engagement, culture, employee and customer acquisition and retention, community involvement, AND revenues and profits. Monte’s process creates organizational discipline in the areas of Strategy, Business Development, People, Execution and Mission.

Is there something special that keeps you motivated?

I enjoy helping teams and organizations make small adjustments that create huge impacts on results, behaviors, and engagement. Just small tweaks in communication, ways of working, and decision making go a long way. None of us have achieved our full potential. Each day I am guided to help others (and myself) grow in their thinking, their actions, and their impact.

Without saying too much, what are The 5 Disciplines?

I believe a great business is defined as one that is sustainable, predictable, stable, consistent, and has an emotional connection. In order to achieve this definition, a great business must be disciplined. There are 5 Disciplines that every organization needs to possess to have exponential growth. They are Strategy, Business Development, People, Execution and Mission. Organizations must first make decisions in each of these areas and then they must keep those decisions. This is where discipline comes into play.

Your business strategy leads to sustainability in your organization. It’s how you articulate the way you do business. It’s where you want to go and the roadmap to get you there. Strategy is about skillful management that attains an end. It’s about creating longevity.

Business development leads to predictability. Predictability helps create sustainability, and predictability comes from understanding the causes of past growth to calculate future exponential growth. Effective business development and predictability come from testing and measuring numbers in three essential areas – marketing, sales and customer service. It’s about gaining and retaining customers.

The discipline of people leads to stability. You create an environment where people know their role and they feel appreciated. A business can do this by investing in three areas: leadership, talent development and recruitment. It’s about employee growth and engagement.

Execution leads to consistency. Consistency provides familiarity and a level of assurance that you have your act together, you’re in control, and you’re dependable. You know when a business is consistent – when you are treated the right way all the time, and you can count on this in your dealings with the business. It’s about organizational efficiency and processes.

The discipline of mission creates an emotional connection inside and outside a company. A company should spotlight its impact on the world. It should have an answer for employees who ask, “Why do I go to work every day?” Mission is why the company does what it does. The discipline of mission enables people to connect to your company. It is made up of three main ideas that define your organization – core values, purpose and giving back.

These five disciplines focus on improving things that can be measured – often in areas that might have been overlooked and that can be used to foster growth.

What is the best thing about your work today?

One of my main messages is Strategic Thinking, Execution Planning. We can’t just plan strategically. We must learn how to think longer term and bigger picture. Our team needs to be taught how to think strategically. A gap that I see is implementation. So many of us make great plans, but we get distracted or lose focus on our follow through. We must plan our implementation and execution. Who does what by when. Create communication and accountability that leads to making progress. Lead people and manage processes. Lead people to be inspired and understand their impact. Manage processes to ensure we are moving forward and accomplishing the results that we desire.
