Daily affirmations set the intention and focus the energy for the day. Following is an affirmation to embrace not just for today but also to set the intention for diversity and an inclusivity-centric lifestyle.

Group of young people standing in circle and smiling at camera.

Repeat after me:

I treat everyone with respect.

I manage my own biases. I examine my assumptions and beliefs. I challenge myself to recognize and get rid of stereotypes. I monitor my behavior and decisions.

I increase my cultural competence. I enjoy learning about different societies and customs. I study history and literature. I listen attentively when others share their stories. I travel to unfamiliar neighborhoods and countries.

I communicate skillfully. I ask others about their preferences. I avoid language that might marginalize anyone. I stay up to date on culturally sensitive terms.

I am willing to learn from others. I welcome feedback. I seek opportunities to deepen my understanding and continue growing.

I reach out to others. I broaden my social circle and professional network. I interact with neighbors and colleagues whose backgrounds are different from my own. I join organizations with diverse memberships.

I support positive changes in my workplace. I analyze the diversity goals and vision of my company. I talk with my supervisor about how they affect my role. I participate in surveys, committees, and social activities.

Today, I celebrate diversity and inclusion. I value others and appreciate their uniqueness. I help them to develop their potential and contribute their gifts.

Intentional Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. How can I support diversity at my workplace even if I am not in a leadership position?

  2. How can I teach my children about diversity?

  3. What kind of training would help me to be more inclusive?
