If you had told me thirty years ago that I would be where I am now, I wouldn’t have believed you. Despite working hard, I didn’t do particularly well at school or college. At 28 years old, while working in hospitality, I began a higher education course with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. At the time, it felt like the ideal career path for me, as I loved seeing people overcome challenges and thrive in their work.

In my first module of the course, I learned how I learn—and being given this key changed the trajectory of both my career and my life.

To summarise the next stage of my career: I earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Personnel and Development, became a Training and Development Officer at a professional services law firm, trained as a BTEC Assessor, designed and delivered professional skills courses, and qualified as an Executive Coach. It was through Executive Coaching that I found myself drawn to my true calling. I invested in another long journey of study to qualify as a therapeutic counsellor, working with both adults and young people. Clinical supervision training followed, allowing me to reconnect with my passion for training and development while diversifying my clinical practice.

In 2020, a wonderful mentor gifted me the opportunity to own and deliver the Advanced Diploma in Clinical Supervision as an independent trainer. This course has helped clinical supervisors across the country to qualify and build thriving practices. As the vision expanded, my aim became to create a community of counsellors in the local area—one where we could share knowledge, foster best practices, and deliver experiential, neuro-affirming teaching and assessment.

When I’m not doing this, I’m engaged in therapeutic practice, clinical supervision, and working toward my Professional Doctorate in Counselling, Psychotherapy, and Psychological Trauma at the University of Chester.
