  • Boundaries Are Love and the Truth About Healthy Boundaries, Identity, and Self-Leadership

Written by Jéssica Cohen, Transformational Life Mentor & Psychotherapist Jéss is a Transformational Life Mentor who works with high-capacity leaders to move beyond surface-level growth and embody lives aligned with their values, identity, and deeper purpose. Do you think boundaries push people away? Most people do. They believe boundaries are walls, warnings, distance. But boundaries are not designed to keep people out. They are designed to bring you closer, to yourself first, and then to others. There was a point in my life when I looked around and realized no one was there. Not because people didn’t care, but because I had pushed them away. I told myself I was protecting myself. In reality, I wasn’t expressing myself at all. I wasn’t setting boundaries. I was avoiding connection. Boundaries rooted in fear isolate you. Boundaries rooted in love transform your relationships. And that distinction changes everything. What are healthy vs. unhealthy boundaries? A healthy boundary creates peace. Not control, not punishment, not fear. It’s clarity. It’s alignment. It’s the absence of internal conflict after you’ve expressed yourself. Healthy boundaries are not created to guard you from people. They are created to guide how you show up with them. They are rooted in: Self-love Respect for others Respect for the relationship itself Unhealthy boundaries are rooted in: Fear Shame Control Past pain They often sound like: “I’ll never let that happen again.” “I’m not opening up anymore.” “I’ll just do it myself.” That’s not a boundary. That’s protection disguised as strength. Avoidance and control sit on opposite ends of the same spectrum: Avoidance runs from discomfort. Control suffocates it. True boundaries do neither. They create space for truth, for conversation, and for connection, even when it’s uncomfortable. Why people struggle with boundaries Most people didn’t learn boundaries, they learned survival. We are shaped first by our caregivers. If boundaries weren’t modeled clearly and consistently, we grow up reacting instead of responding. Then shame, fear, and ego step in. Shame says, “You’re too much.” Fear says, “This won’t end well.” Ego says, “Protect yourself at all costs.” These are not truths. They are distortions. But when approached with curiosity instead of judgment, they become insight. Boundaries require that level of insight. They require you to pause and ask, “What am I feeling, and what is the aligned way to express this?” Most people don’t pause long enough to answer that question. So they either: Betray themselves by not setting boundaries, Or communicate them in ways that damage connection. The impact of boundaries on your life Your relationship with yourself Without boundaries, there is no internal compass. You begin to feel: Disconnected Uncertain Out of alignment Because boundaries are how your values are lived. Without them, you’re standing on an unstable foundation. Like a house without a solid base, everything above it begins to crack and crumble because boundaries are the first floor that holds it all together. Your relationships with others Poor boundaries affect every relationship you’re in. In business: You overextend You burn out You lose respect, internally and externally In relationships: Trust weakens Communication becomes unclear Emotional safety disappears In parenting: Inconsistency creates confusion Lack of structure weakens respect Here’s the truth, "People may not always like boundaries, but they feel safe with them because boundaries create clarity, consistency, trust, and stability." Your relationship with nature There is no separation between you and nature, you are part of it, both biologically and energetically. Nature operates through boundaries in every form: Seasons shift Weather moves Ecosystems regulate Animals respond Energy exchanges without confusion or negotiation When boundaries are disrupted: There is consequence Sometimes beautiful Sometimes destructive Always fair Because nature operates with integrity. There is appropriate weight and measure. There is no guessing. It simply is. Examples of this in motion: Forest fires clear space for renewal and regrowth Rain replenishes life, and its absence allows for release and rebirth Here’s the truth: Nature is excruciatingly beautiful because it is fair. And the same is true for you. When you live without boundaries: You disrupt your internal equilibrium You experience disconnection You feel worn down and out of alignment Because boundaries are what restore harmony, and harmony is what allows life, within and around you, to thrive. Your connection to Source Source is God, creation, order, energy, and nature. It is everything that exists within and around you, and it lives through you. You don’t disconnect from Source, ever, but when you lack boundaries, you disconnect from yourself. As the vessel that holds Source, you begin to feel constricted, unsettled, and out of alignment in your body, mind, and life. Boundaries return you to Source through discipline, integrity, joy, and love. They anchor you back into who you truly are. When you know your values but don’t live by them, you enter cycles of self-betrayal and suffering until you decide to honor your truth. As Wayne Dyer said, “You don’t get what you want, you get what you are,” and boundaries shape your way of being, which in turn shapes everything you experience and who you become. 4 steps to self-leadership boundaries: The self-leadership boundary framework Pause – Process – Declare – Maintain Healthy boundaries are not built through scattered actions, they are established through self-leadership. Instead of memorizing steps, you embody a process. 1. Pause Before you react, you pause. This is where most people lose themselves. Instead of immediately reacting, shutting down, or over-explaining, you create space between what happened and how you respond. This is where awareness begins. You acknowledge yourself. You attune to yourself. This is where you go within. This is where you feel deeply. “Something just happened. Let me not rush past it.” Without this step, everything that follows is reactive and often misaligned. 2. Process (meet yourself first) This is where you have a real, transparent meeting with yourself. What am I feeling? What about this doesn’t sit right with me? Is this coming from love, fear, ego, or control? What do I actually need here? This step separates people who react from people who lead themselves. If you skip this step, your boundary will come out distorted: Passive Aggressive Controlling Avoidant 3. Declare (not ask, express) This is where you lead decisively. You’ve felt deeply, now you lead decisively. You don’t ask for permission to honor yourself. You declare. Not aggressively. Not defensively. Not passively. Assertively. Clearly. Directly. Respectfully. “This doesn’t work for me.” “Moving forward, this is what I need.” A boundary is not a negotiation of your worth. It is an expression of your values. Tone matters. Energy matters. But clarity matters most. 4. Maintain (this is where integrity lives) This is the step most people avoid because this is where you find out if you actually meant what you said. Maintaining a boundary looks like: Following through Standing firm in what you declared Holding your standard when it’s uncomfortable Consistent and clear communication Not betraying yourself when someone pushes back Stand ten toes down. Soft heart. Strong spine. If someone resists your boundary, it reveals where alignment does or does not exist. A boundary without maintenance is just a suggestion. This is where: Self-respect is built Trust is established Integrity is lived Boundaries that look healthy but are not Some behaviors appear strong but are rooted in fear: Overworking to prove your worth Always being available to be liked Staying silent to avoid discomfort Being “nice” instead of being transparent Nice tolerates. Kind communicates. Healthy boundaries are rooted in kindness. Start here Start simple. Write down your boundaries without filtering them. Then ask yourself: Is this rooted in love or fear? Does this create peace or control? Does this support connection or avoid it? Refine them from there. Because boundaries are not just about what you say no to. They are about who you become when you decide to live in: Self-respect Integrity Alignment And that is where real transformation begins. • Designing AI for Different Brains and the Missing Layer in Ethical AI

Written by Sarah Ailish McLoughlin, Neurodivergent and Disabled Founder Sarah McLoughlin is the creator of Strategic Self-Advocacy™, founder of EduLinked and EduPsyched, and developer of Microsoft-supported digital tools that turn burnout into strategy across disability, education, and mental health systems. Big idea, if people cannot understand or use AI, it is not ethical. This article explores how AI systems are often designed with specific thinking patterns in mind, overlooking neurodivergent users. It highlights the missing layer in AI ethics, emphasizing the importance of accessibility, human oversight, and inclusive design. Learn why creating truly ethical AI systems requires prioritizing comprehension, expression, and integrity for all users, ensuring AI is both effective and inclusive. A familiar moment The screen lights up, and the answer looks clear. You read it, and then read it again. Something feels off. It’s not wrong, just not quite right. You pause. What is happening? This is not a mistake. It’s a mismatch. The system wasn’t designed for how your brain works. For neurodivergent people, this is a familiar experience: the language might move too fast the structure assumes straight-line thinking too much is packed into one sentence. The system is working, but it is not working for you. Why this matters AI is often called "ethical," but discussions around it tend to focus on issues such as: bias safety rules These are important, but they miss a key aspect: Can people actually use and understand the system? If not, the system fails, regardless of how well it follows the rules. How AI is designed today AI is not neutral. It is designed for specific ways of thinking, such as: fast reading strong text skills step-by-step thinking confidence with language If your processing matches these assumptions, AI tends to feel easy to use. But if not, you must adapt. What gets left out People think and communicate in different ways. People: need more time to process use visuals or symbols find dense text difficult think in non-linear ways feel overwhelmed under pressure. Yet, AI systems still expect people to read quickly, write clearly, and understand instantly. This works for some users, but not for all. That’s not a small issue. It’s a design problem. Understanding vs. Correctness AI is often judged by the quality of its answers, but there’s another question: Can people actually understand those answers? Tools like plain language, Easy Read, and symbol-supported communication can help. But there’s a challenge. When you simplify something, it becomes easier to understand but may lose its meaning. There’s a balance to be found between clarity and accuracy. If we ignore this balance, we may end up with answers that look clear but aren’t fully reliable. When AI changes meaning It’s easy to assume that if something sounds clear, it is correct. But that’s not always true, especially when context is reduced or removed during transformation. AI changes meaning when it rewrites or simplifies content without preserving the context or original source, such as when it summarizes, simplifies, or rewrites information. This can: remove important details change tone lose authorship In important situations, this matters. AI should help people understand, not quietly change the story. Who is doing the thinking? As AI improves, more responsibility shifts to the user. You have to: decide if the output is correct interpret unclear parts notice what’s missing manage the risks The system may look smart, but you’re doing the work. Why human oversight matters There’s pressure to automate everything, but full automation doesn’t work in high-stakes contexts where meaning, identity, or consequences are involved. Human oversight is essential. Without it: mistakes stay hidden harm increases trust breaks down What ethical AI should include Ethical AI is not just about features, it’s about system design. Work in this space is already happening, as seen in ethical AI research and system design at EduLinked . Here’s a simple framework for ethical AI: Comprehension: People must understand the output. This includes plain language, Easy Read, and clear definitions. Expression: People must be able to express themselves in different communication styles and multiple formats. Integrity: Meaning must stay visible. This includes tracking authorship and showing changes. Consent: People must remain in control with clear permission and the ability to make changes. Oversight: Human review and accountability are essential to ensure responsibility. The real question The real question is not whether AI is accurate or efficient, but, "Who can use it, and who cannot?" Final thought We don’t just need smarter AI. We need AI that: Can be understood Can be questioned Works for different ways of thinking Keeps meaning intact If someone cannot understand an AI system, it is not ethical. It’s exclusion, at scale. • Why Healing is Never One-Size-Fits-All, and the Power of Your Ayurvedic Blueprint

Written by Tiffanae Dawn Luke, Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist Tiffanae is a Clinical Ayurveda Specialist dedicated to restoring balance, vitality, and resilience through personalized Ayurvedic care. Working with clients worldwide, she combines ancient wisdom with modern insight to support sustainable energy and long-term well-being. Health is personal. In a world filled with generalized advice, trending protocols, and one-size-fits-all wellness solutions, many people are left wondering why nothing truly works for them long-term. Over the years in clinical Ayurvedic practice, one truth continues to reveal itself: Two people can experience the same symptoms and require completely different solutions. This is because healing is not based on symptoms alone. It is based on the individual. Your body is not like anyone else’s Ayurveda, the 8,000-year-old science of longevity, recognizes that every person has a unique constitution, a blueprint that governs how their body functions physically, mentally, and emotionally. This means:   Some people naturally run hot, while others tend to feel cold Some need stimulation and movement, while others require grounding and stillness Some digest quickly, while others need slower, more supportive rhythms   Even emotional patterns differ. One person may experience stress as anxiety, while another experiences it as irritability or withdrawal. The same symptom does not mean the same cause. And without understanding the cause, healing remains incomplete.   Treating the root, not just the symptoms Modern wellness often focuses on managing symptoms and reducing discomfort without addressing why it exists. Ayurveda takes a different approach. It asks: Why is this happening? Where is the imbalance coming from? What is your body trying to communicate? When the root cause is understood, the need to constantly manage symptoms begins to dissolve. In my experience, once individuals understand why their body is out of balance, they begin to make more aligned choices naturally without force or restriction. Awareness creates change.   Your unique blueprint: The key to self-empowerment Ayurveda places each individual into their own unique category, not to label, but to guide. When you understand your constitution, you begin to see patterns: What foods support or disrupt your system When your energy rises and falls throughout the day How your body responds to stress Which environments help you feel balanced This awareness becomes empowering. Instead of reacting to symptoms, you begin to navigate your health with clarity and confidence. Self-empowerment begins with knowledge of self.   Tiny adjustments, profound effects One of the most misunderstood aspects of healing is the belief that change must be extreme to be effective. In Ayurveda, the opposite is true.   Small, intentional adjustments create the most sustainable results. Simple shifts such as: Adjusting meal timing Choosing warming or cooling foods based on your constitution Creating consistent daily rhythms Supporting digestion through simple practices These subtle changes create profound effects over time. Not because they are dramatic, but because they are aligned.   Learning your patterns and breaking the cycle We all have habit patterns that repeat over time. Some support our health. Others quietly move us further out of balance. Ayurveda helps you become aware of these patterns, what you do, when you do it, and how it impacts your system. Once awareness is established, change becomes possible. Learning the cause helps eliminate the effect. And more importantly, it prevents the progression of imbalance into deeper symptoms, disease, or long-term depletion.   Prevention is the true path to longevity One of the greatest strengths of Ayurveda is its focus on prevention. By understanding your body early before the imbalance deepens, you can:   Avoid chronic symptoms Maintain steady energy Strengthen emotional resilience Support long-term vitality When an imbalance is addressed at the root, it does not continue to spread into other areas of the body. This is how longevity is built. Not through reaction but through awareness and alignment.   Becoming your own health advocate The most powerful part of the Ayurvedic journey is not just healing. It is knowing. Knowing your body. Knowing your patterns. Knowing your needs. When you have this awareness, you become your own greatest advocate.   You are no longer dependent on trends, conflicting advice, or temporary solutions. You begin to trust your body. And from that place, true healing happens.   Ancient wisdom, personalized for you Ayurveda is often called the “science of life” because it honors individuality above all else. It does not offer one path. It offers your path.   With the right guidance, your unique blueprint becomes clear, along with the tools needed to support it. And when that happens, healing becomes not only possible but sustainable. Follow me on Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , and visit my website for more info! • Why Do People Join a Member-Focused Credit Union

Customers want financial institutions that put their needs and interests first. Member-focused credit unions have made for a compelling alternative for those looking for more than basic banking products. Compared to traditional banks, these organizations do not function in the same way, providing an appeal that attracts a large number of individuals and families. These institutions have benefits, and understanding why people pick them may help one appreciate what they offer their members. Institutions like Energy One Federal Credit Union  are a good example of how a member-focused approach can make a real difference in everyday banking. Let's look at what draws so many people to credit unions. Personalized Service and Community Values One thing that credit unions really focus on is attention to detail. A sense of community is created among members because it is managed by people who share similar financial interests with members. When it comes to decision-making, it is usually done on a local level, which is one of the closest community-like atmospheres you can get. They know most of their clients by name and make an effort to understand the specific situations of individuals. This attention builds trust and loyalty and encourages long-term relationships. Ownership and Democratic Control Anyone who signs up for a credit union is a part owner. Profits are returned to members (not shareholders) in the form of better rates and lower fees, which are much more favorable than banks, as they are not profit-seeking institutions. Every member has an equal decision-making authority regardless of their account balance size. It gives everyone a voice in policy decisions and leadership selection. This democratizes the process, giving authority to individual members, not just a few executives sitting behind closed doors. Competitive Rates and Lower Fees Credit unions are often appealing because of their competitive loan rates and lower fees. Due to these organizations being profit-returning to members rather than profit–driven, this allows them to offer more competitive deals. Interest rates on savings accounts, mortgages, and personal loans tend to be lower than you can find at a bigger bank. Basic service fees are still affordable, which has made daily banking less costly for families and people. Commitment to Financial Education Credit unions that focus on their members often provide advice about personal finance. Through workshops, seminars, and educational materials, individuals learn about budgeting, saving, and investing. Staff offer personalized advice, particularly to people new to managing their money. According to the National Credit Union Administration, credit unions play a key role in promoting financial literacy  among their members. Such a focus on education helps members make better decisions to build their financial future. That kind of backing gives confidence, and it leads to financial sustainability in the long term. Focus on Community Well-Being Many credit unions also prioritize service to the local area. They provide some of the funding for local community projects, events, and charitable causes. What often strengthens those ties of staff to members and residents in the community is a shared commitment to volunteerism and philanthropy that is in their DNA. In this way, they are making everyone who is involved better off. It is here that credit unions set themselves apart from so many other financial institutions and circle back to the concept of community-based social business. Accessible Services and Convenience Today, credit unions operate like banks with various modern services that appeal to the needs of members. Users can access their accounts and money wherever they are with online banking, mobile apps, and a wide network of ATMs. Many locations are open late for people with varying hours. And with progress in technology, there is always assistance available for people who prefer in-person banking as well. This balance between convenience and personal support appeals to all types of people. Trust and Security Confidence continues to be an important factor when selecting a member-centric organization. Such organizations function based on strict regulations for safeguarding deposits as well as personal information. Members also have peace of mind from insurance protecting their funds. A focus on ethical behavior and transparency allows customers to rest assured that their needs are the priority. This trust is then reinforced over time through effective communication and supporting customers when they need it. Conclusion That's why so many people opt for the member-based credit union over its corporate cousin: one-on-one attention, equal say in the decision-making process, and, in many cases, more money in your pocket. These institutions are known for their commitment to service, education, and community. Credit unions are not-for-profit, and by putting members first, they offer a unique alternative to banks. This commitment continues to draw in those searching for trust, value, and community in their financial lives.

  • The Future of Teamwork: Why Collaboration is no Longer Tied to Location

For a long time, teamwork was defined by proximity. People worked together, talked to each other, and created value in offices, meeting rooms, and shared spaces. But that model has evolved. Connectivity, adaptability, and the capacity to operate effectively across distance are today's defining characteristics of collaboration, regardless of location.Who sits where will not determine the success of future teams. The geography matters less than their ability to think, contribute, and align efficiently, regardless of where they are located. From physical presence to digital connection In the past, people had to be physically present at work. People often thought that being "in the office" meant being productive. That idea has been challenged, though, as more and more businesses have adopted remote and hybrid models. Now , teams work together  in different cities, countries, and time zones. But they still stay in touch through shared digital spaces where tasks, ideas, and conversations happen. Collaboration used to happen in a room, but now it happens in a system. This change has opened up new doors. Companies can now hire people from all over the world. People are no longer limited by where they live and teams can be assembled based on skills and perspective, not location. Borderless collaboration expands opportunity When collaboration knows no bounds, so do opportunities. Teams can get a wide range of opinions, cultural insights, and specialized knowledge that would be hard to find in one office. This variety drives new ideas. Different points of view make us question what we think we know, inspire new ideas, and help us make better choices. Working together gets more rewarding, not more challenging. At the same time, people are better off with more freedom. They can contribute from places where they feel most focused and productive. This change helps not only performance but also well-being, which is an increasingly important factor for long-term success. Flexibility as a new foundation Flexibility is no longer a nice thing to have, but rather a foundation of modern teamwork. Teams are learning how to work asynchronously, which means that people can contribute at different times without slowing down the work.Instead of relying on constant meetings, teams can use shared tools and structured workflows. Updates, feedback, and decisions are written down and easy to find, which cuts down on the need for the same conversations over and over. This flexibility gives things a push. Work goes on across time zones, projects move forward without unnecessary delays, and teams become better at dealing with change. Digital tools as enablers of collaboration Remote collaboration tools  are at the center of this transformation. Yet, their role is often misunderstood. They are more than just task management systems, acting as enablers of opportunity. The right tools make things clear. They help teams keep track of what's going on, who's in charge, and how far they've come. They make things less confusing and get rid of guesswork. They also help people talk to each other. They give people places to share ideas and work on them together, even if they aren't all online at the same time. This can be done through messaging, shared documents, or visual boards. Most importantly, they let you have structure without being too strict. Teams can make workflows that fit their needs, balancing creativity with responsibility. Rethinking what it means to work together Organizations are being forced to rethink what it means to work together as collaboration becomes less tied to location. Nowadays, cohesion, understanding, and common goals are more important for success than the number of hours spent in the same room. Leaders need to stop worrying about who is there and start worrying about how well they are doing. This means making systems that promote openness, trust, and independence. It also means knowing that working together well doesn't just happen. It needs to be carefully planned, backed up with the right tools, and made stronger by the way the team works together. A new era of teamwork Offices and geography don't define the future of teamwork. It is defined by how well people can work together, connect, and make things of value, no matter where they are. Digital tools make this possible, but the real change is in the culture. It's a move toward more flexible, open, and results-oriented work. In this new era, walls don't stop people from working together. And teams that accept this change won't just adapt; they'll do well.

  • A Guide to Prospective Marriage Visa for Couples Planning to Marry in Australia

For many couples in Australia, the decision to marry creates memories that last a lifetime. It encompasses the concept of marriage for partners from different countries, requiring significant preparation to understand the necessary visa and the steps to live together. The Prospective Marriage Visa enables engaged couples to unite in Australia and begin their married lives. In this guide, you will learn about everything crucial for couples who are thinking of this route. Understanding the Prospective Marriage Visa The Prospective Marriage Visa Australia  is a type of visa that permits an engaged partner to enter Australia to marry their future spouse. It is a temporary visa that can allow the holder to stay in Australia for up to nine months. If couples want to stay together during the waiting time, they must marry and apply for a partner visa. This process allows couples enough time to plan their ceremony and settle down together. Eligibility Criteria for Applicants Applicants must meet specific requirements before submitting their visa request. Both individuals should be at least eighteen years old at the time of application. The couple must have met in person and genuinely intend to marry each other within the visa’s nine-month validity. Proof of a sincere relationship is required, including evidence of time spent together, communication history, and plans for the future. Financial and Character Requirements Having proof of financial stability is a key aspect when it comes to a successful visa application. The Australian government expects the partner who sponsors the entry permit to assist the applicant during their stay. Such character requirements entail police certificates from all countries where the applicant has lived for over a year within the last ten years. A medical test is also found necessary for the applicant to meet health standards. Steps in the Application Process An important step is to prepare documents, such as birth certificates, passports, and proof of relationship. Couples need to make statements about their relationship, and shortly get married. Once all paperwork is submitted and the fee is paid, the immigration official reviews the application. Additionally, as the processing times are subject to change, doing it early will remove possible delays. Arriving in Australia After the visa is approved, the applicant can come to Australia and start to get ready for the wedding. Couples have nine months (or more) to wed and plan their festivities. After they marry, if they want to stay in Australia together, they need a spouse visa. The temporary visa has no pathway towards automatically earning permanent residency, so you need to know exactly what you're doing next. Common Challenges Faced by Applicants Cohabiting couples  can sometimes face complications during the application process. This can be especially hard for people who have only gotten to know each other through long-distance means, as it can be difficult to provide adequate proof of an existing relationship. If documents are missing or incomplete, then such situations might also cause delays in the processing times. Couples can seek further help to overcome these challenges with a little more confidence. The Importance of Honest Communication The immigration process values honest and transparent communication. Couples should ensure all statements and documents accurately reflect their relationship. Misrepresentations can result in visa refusal or even long-term bans from entering Australia. Regular updates and truthful information throughout the process help build trust with immigration authorities. Planning the Wedding and Beyond The Prospective Marriage Visa allows couples to enter Australia and concentrate on their future lives, free of concern about their impending ceremony. Getting married in another country comes with its own set of opportunities and challenges. Embracing local traditions and forging new bonds further enhances the wedding experience. After marriage, the couple can start building a life in Australia, as the legal and social framework is in place to support them. Conclusion A Prospective Marriage Visa could be a viable option for couples seeking to marry and reside in Australia. Following the process, meeting the criteria, and preparing all the necessary documentation are crucial for success. So with sufficient preparation and understanding, partners can enjoy celebrations and a future within a game of their choice. These tips and pieces of wisdom within this guide mean that engaged partners can progress confidently toward planning their Australian wedding and their life together as a married couple in all its forms.

  • How to Keep Motivated While Building Leads Even When It’s Quiet

Written by Yemisi Mokuolu, Creative Business Coach Yemisi Mokuolu is an award-winning business coach and consultant, founder of Hatch Ideas, and co-producer of Ghana’s Asa Baako festival, known for empowering creatives and purpose-driven businesses around the world to thrive through tailored coaching and industry development. When leads are slow, it can start to mess with your motivation. Not because you’re not capable, not because your work isn’t good, but because lead-building has a built-in delay. You can do the right things today and still not see results until next week, next month, or after someone has watched you quietly for a while. This article is for early-stage creatives and established creatives who’ve hit a quiet patch, the ones doing the work, showing up, and still wondering, "Is this working?" Why does motivation drop when leads are quiet? Most creatives don’t lose motivation because they’re lazy. They lose motivation because they’re doing visibility without feedback. When you post, and it’s silent, when you send the email, and only two people open it, when you mention your offer, and nobody bites, it’s easy to make that mean something about you. Here’s the reframe that changes everything: Motivation is not a personality trait. Motivation is a response to evidence. If the evidence is delayed, your job isn’t to force yourself into hype. Your job is to create a system that keeps you steady while the evidence catches up. Does a quiet patch mean your marketing isn’t working? Not always. Sometimes things go quiet because: Your audience is watching, not responding (quiet buyers are real) Your message is slightly unclear (people don’t know what to ask you for) You’re relying on one channel, and it’s having a slow month You’ve outgrown an old offer or old positioning You’ve been visible but not direct (no clear invitation, no follow-up) A quiet patch is information, not a verdict. What should you focus on instead of motivation? Try this, focus on momentum. Motivation goes up and down. Momentum is what happens when you keep small promises to yourself, especially in the weeks where you don’t feel like it. Momentum is also what makes lead-building sustainable because you’re not relying on a burst of confidence to carry you. You’re relying on a rhythm. What is a sustainable weekly lead-building rhythm? If you’re using a variety of lead-building channels (as most creatives do), the goal is not to do everything. It’s to do the right few things consistently. Here’s a simple weekly rhythm that works across LinkedIn, email, networking, referrals, workshops, and collaborations: 2 visibility moments (post, article, short video, carousel, blog) 2 relationship moments (DMs, voice notes, comments, warm outreach) 1 conversion moment (invite, follow-up, call-to-action, offer reminder) This is the difference between “I’m posting and hoping” and “I’m building a lead system.” How do you stay confident when results are delayed? When leads are quiet, outcomes can feel personal. So instead of tracking only outcomes (likes, inquiries, sales), track inputs, the actions you can control. Ask yourself: How many invitations did I make this week? How many follow-ups did I send? How many conversations did I start? Did I clearly say what I do and who it’s for? This keeps your confidence anchored in action, not algorithms. What should you do in low-energy weeks? You don’t need to be on top form every week. Decide what counts as “still in the game” when life is full, energy is low, or confidence is wobbly. Your minimum baseline might be: One post that tells people what you do (clearly) Two follow-ups to warm leads One email to your list (even a short one) Small. Steady. Doable. And here’s the important part, a minimum baseline protects your identity as someone who keeps going. That identity is one of the strongest motivation builders there is. How do you build leads without forcing yourself into performance? If your lead-building is only broadcast (posting and hoping), motivation will always be fragile. Balance it with relationship-led actions that create quicker feedback and deeper trust: Reply to people’s stories/posts with something real Reconnect with past clients or collaborators Ask one good question in a community you’re part of Send a simple message, “I’ve got space for X this month, would it be useful to talk?” This isn’t pushy. It’s clear. And clarity is kind. What should you do when you feel like quitting? If you’re thinking, “I can’t keep doing this,” pause and do a quick audit: Is my offer clear in one sentence? Do people know the outcome I help them achieve? Am I asking for the sale or just being visible? Have I followed up, or am I waiting to be “chosen”? Is my pricing and package aligned with what I actually want to deliver? Quiet seasons often need a reset, not a reinvention. A gentle truth: You don’t need to feel ready to be consistent You can build leads while feeling uncertain. You can build leads while feeling shy. You can build leads without becoming someone else. The goal isn’t to be endlessly motivated. The goal is to build a lead system that supports your nervous system and keeps you moving toward the work you want. One useful reminder here is that habits take time to form, and consistency is often more about repetition than willpower. University College London (UCL) has a helpful summary of research on habit formation, including how long it can take for a behavior to become more automatic. How long does it take to form a habit? • How Not Meeting the Threshold Helped Us Build a Better Support System

Written by Kathy Cook, Director of Kathy Now Then Coaching Kathy is Director of Kathy Now Then Coaching, drawing on 15 years’ experience as a teacher, SENCo, Assistant Educational Psychologist, Young person coach, and parent. She supports families to rebuild relationships and help young people thrive amid the evolving pressures of today's education system. Asking the system to notice the "quiet" or "passive" children felt like I was hitting my head against a brick wall. So, I did what once felt unthinkable, I built something different. Reaching out for support is a vulnerable step, and I want you to know you're not alone in that feeling. Many parents experience the emotional weight of asking for help, especially when told we didn’t meet the threshold. Your feelings are valid, and support is possible. I attended GP appointments, reached out to the school, and leaned on friends for an extra set of eyes when I felt I might be missing something. I did everything I could, and still, the answer was no. Receiving that response can feel disheartening, but for me, it became a turning point. Instead of stopping at "unsuccessful," I asked myself, "Ok, now what?" Because there is always a "what next." In truth, that "no" gave me an unfamiliar direction. Barriers through pathways As a teacher, SENCo, Assistant Educational Psychologist, and parent, I’ve seen, and completed, the lengthy forms that can become a barrier for so many. Have you tried this before? Have you completed that before this? I understand the intention, we don’t want to jump to conclusions too quickly. But what if that instinct, often dismissed as "first-time mum syndrome", isn’t wrong? Diagnosis and medication should never be rushed, but seeking support is just that, seeking support. Long waiting lists and overstretched systems are not only failing individual children but also creating barriers that leave families feeling helpless and overwhelmed. Recognising these systemic issues helps us understand the real challenges families face. Retraining When I searched for the support we needed, I realised something important, it didn’t exist in the way families truly need it. Not yet. In that moment, I recognised that perhaps I was meant to be part of creating it. I returned to training as a young person's life coach with a renewed sense of purpose. I saw a clear gap in the systems designed to support families, and I was determined to help bridge it. I felt like the bridge between education and families, putting the young person at the centre again. The journey hasn't been straightforward. As a single parent, I had to make difficult decisions. My original plans shifted when they no longer aligned with the stability my children needed. I relied on Universal Credit to help us stay afloat. Eventually, I decided to move back in with my parents for a time, a choice that brought not only financial relief but also emotional safety. I no longer had to carry everything alone. These experiences have given me insight I would never wish upon others, but they have strengthened my values in ways I am deeply grateful for. It’s easy to judge, assuming people are taking the easy route or seeking attention. But what if we reframed that? What we often call "attention-seeking" is, in reality, connection-seeking, and that sits very differently. Reframing If we begin to view people through a lens of understanding rather than judgment, everything changes. No one is born wanting to fail. Most people are simply trying to navigate systems that can feel complex, restrictive, and, at times, inaccessible. The thresholds for support, and even acceptance, are often too narrow to truly see the individual behind the situation. I have sought support when I needed it. I have relied on systems designed to help during tough times. And yes, there has been judgment along the way. But I hold onto a quote that continues to ground me: "Those who matter don’t mind, and those who mind don’t matter." – Dr. Seuss This journey is the reason my business exists today. About Now Then Coaching Ltd Kathy built Now Then Coaching Ltd from lived experience, from recognising a gap, and from a deep belief that support should be simpler, more accessible, and free from stigma. The coaching programs, local community groups, and online resources provide practical support tailored to families' needs. Offering support that can make a real difference in navigating complex systems and finding the help you deserve. The name Now Then comes from my late grandparents, a heartfelt reminder to focus on the present and believe in growth from every experience. Like the lotus rising from murky waters, it symbolises resilience, hope, and the endless possibility of change. No matter how difficult things seem now, there is always a path forward, and support can help you find it. We shouldn't have to fight to be seen or prove enough need to deserve support. And we certainly shouldn't have to keep saying, "I'll be fine" when what we really mean is, "I'll try to cope on my own." Now Then Coaching services and community programs are designed to offer practical, compassionate support that empowers you to take the next step. You don't have to do this alone. Discover how our tailored approaches can help you and your child thrive. So, now then, what's your next move? 5 steps you can take to help your child who is experiencing anxiety today Rephrasing words can make a small but important difference. Rather than anxious child, anxiety is a temporary experience and only lasts without the right support. Morning affirmations: Set the tone for the day. Start the day with simple, positive affirmations. Try phrases like, "I can manage what comes my way" or "I am stronger than I think." This helps build self-belief and set a calm, optimistic tone. Remember, we learn more from our failures than our wins. Be proud and celebrate when you’ve overcome difficulties and found your own solution. Nature breaks: Breathe and reset. Step outside for a 10-minute break. A short walk, listening to birdsong, or simply sitting under a tree can help reduce stress and bring your child back to the present moment. Even in poor weather, noticing the power of nature can be grounding. Daily wins: Celebrate small successes. Create a "win jar" or journal. Each day, write down one thing your child did well, no matter how small. These shifts focus from perfection to progress and build confidence over time. Mindful play: Unwind with creativity. Encourage creative outlets such as drawing, music, or building. These activities help channel anxious energy into something positive. Even five minutes can make a difference, especially during busy or pressured moments. Bedtime gratitude: End the day with positivity. Before bed, share three things you’re grateful for. This simple habit promotes calm and helps your child focus on what’s going well. Try to save problem-solving discussions for earlier in the day rather than at the end of the day. You’re the parent Be a role model, try some of the steps and show your child they’re not alone. Small, consistent actions/messages can help turn anxiety into confidence and self-doubt into self-belief. Try these today and notice the difference. I continue to support children in schools and strongly advocate for a joined-up approach that brings together the child, family, and the professionals around them. It takes a village to raise a child, and that same village is vital in supporting parents and carers too. I’ve created a free space for parents and carers to connect and feel supported. The first parent/carer check-in Q&A will take place on Monday, 6th April, at 7:30 pm. You are very welcome to join , and it's free (no strings attached). Bloom parenting If you're feeling overwhelmed by unrealistic advice or the pressure to enjoy every moment, this space is for you. Bloom Parenting offers honest conversations, practical strategies, and meaningful support to help family life feel more manageable. Together, we focus on what truly helps: Set realistic routines: You’ll be amazed at what a difference this makes. Develop boundaries with warmth and consistency: Saying ‘no’ with love. Understand child development: What is a realistic expectation? Manage the mental load: With like-minded parents who ‘get it.’ Protect your own well-being: You need to look after yourself too. Bloom is not about perfection or judgment. It is a supportive community where parents and carers can share ideas, learn, celebrate small wins, and feel less alone. 1:1 coaching and educational support I offer one-to-one in-person coaching across North and North East Lincolnshire, as well as East Yorkshire, in the UK. I also work with education settings, including a local Alternative Provision. I support schools and adults in better understanding behaviour at both systemic and individual levels. Often, adults benefit from the space to pause, reflect, and explore what may be underlying the behaviours they are seeing. Not all behaviour is loud or disruptive. Sometimes it is quiet, withdrawn, and easily missed, but it is still a call for support. No child is "bad." Moving beyond labels such as "naughty" or "disengaged" allows us to ask a more helpful question, "What might we be missing?" Because when behaviour is misunderstood, everyone feels the impact. Follow me on Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , and visit my website for more info! Read more from Kathy Cook Kathy Cook, Director of Kathy Now Then Coaching Now Then Coaching takes its name from a warm greeting used by Kathy’s late grandparents and a reminder to focus on now, while growing from then. With experience across primary, secondary, and specialist settings, including Alternative Provisions, Kathy has supported families through both one-to-one coaching and educational support. She helps adults reframe how behaviour is understood, recognising that not all needs are loud or disruptive, some are quiet and easily missed. Kathy advocates for moving beyond labels such as “naughty” or “disengaged”, encouraging a more compassionate, curious approach that asks what a child may need rather than what they have done wrong.

  • The Bee Crisis Is Happening Now, and It Affects Us All

Written by Alan Hoey, Chemical-Free Invasive Weed Eradicators Alan Hoey is the Managing Director of two UK National Companies, including the Japanese Knotweed Agency, award-winning specialists in chemical-free invasive weed removal. He pioneers thermo-electric treatment for sustainable, permanent root-kill of Japanese Knotweed and other invasive plants while protecting biodiversity. Across the UK, a quiet crisis is unfolding. Not in headlines or dramatic events, but in fields, hedgerows, and gardens. A decline that is gradual, often unnoticed, but deeply consequential. Bees are disappearing. And with them, the foundations of our natural ecosystem. The reality behind the headlines Recent campaigns have highlighted the scale of the issue. In the UK alone, 35 species of bees are now facing extinction, a stark indicator of the wider collapse in pollinator populations. This is not just about wildlife. It’s about food security, biodiversity, and the stability of the natural systems we depend on. Around three-quarters of UK crops rely on pollination, meaning the decline of bees directly affects how we produce food. Put simply, this is not an environmental issue in isolation. It is a societal one. What’s driving the decline? There is no single cause. Instead, it is the result of multiple pressures combining over time: Loss of habitat Agricultural intensification Widespread pesticide use Climate instability We’ve engineered efficiency into our landscapes, but often at the expense of biodiversity. An estimated 97% of wildflower meadows have disappeared in the UK since the 1930s. That’s not just a statistic, it’s a removal of the very environment pollinators depend on. Why these bees matters more than people realise Bees are what we call an “indicator species.” When they decline, it signals something much bigger is wrong. We are already seeing: Reduced biodiversity Disruption to ecosystems Increased pressure on food production Declining insect populations more broadly This is no longer a warning, it is a measurable, ongoing shift. A connected problem, and a necessary shift One of the most important things to understand is this: The challenges facing bees are not isolated. They are directly linked to how we manage land and control our environment. This includes how we deal with invasive species. For decades, the default response across multiple sectors, from agriculture to land management, has been chemical intervention. But we are now seeing the consequences of that approach. There is a growing recognition that solving one problem with blanket chemical use can unintentionally create others, particularly for soil health, watercourses, and pollinator populations. The role of innovation: A stepping stone to change At Japanese Knotweed Agency (JKWA), we are part of a wider shift. Our work focuses on non-chemical, thermo-electric treatment, a targeted method that delivers heat directly into the plant structure and rhizome system, without the need for herbicides. This is important for two reasons: It solves the immediate problem: Japanese Knotweed remains one of the UK’s most aggressive invasive species and must be properly controlled. It avoids creating a secondary environmental issue: By removing reliance on chemicals, we reduce the risk of wider ecological impact. We never, ever use chemicals! Why this matters beyond knotweed This is not just about one plant or one treatment method. It is about direction. Thermo-electric treatment represents a stepping stone toward a chemical-free future. And that shift is becoming increasingly important across multiple sectors: Invasive species management Agriculture and crop protection Land and estate management Infrastructure and environmental projects If we are serious about protecting biodiversity, including pollinators like bees, then we must start rethinking how we approach control, intervention, and land use at every level. A more balanced approach The future is not about doing nothing. It’s about doing things differently. It’s about: Targeted intervention instead of blanket treatment Working with ecosystems, not against them Understanding long-term impact, not just short-term results This is where innovation plays a critical role. Because the reality is, we still need to manage land, control invasive species, and maintain infrastructure. But we must do so in a way that does not compromise the wider environment. From removal to restoration At JKWA, we believe responsibility doesn’t stop at treatment. It extends to restoration. Across our sites, we are increasingly focused on: Supporting biodiversity Creating habitats Reintroducing balance Simple actions, such as creating insect habitats from reclaimed materials, can begin to reverse some of the damage and support pollinator populations. These are small steps individually. But collectively, they matter. The bigger picture The decline of bees is not just about bees. It is about: The resilience of ecosystems The sustainability of food production The long-term health of our environment And ultimately, it is about the choices we make, both as individuals and as industries. Final thought We often think of environmental change as something distant. Something gradual. But the reality is: It is already happening It is already measurable And it is already impacting the world around us The question is no longer whether change is needed. It is whether we are prepared to change how we act. Learn more & connect To support the wider campaign to protect pollinators. Click here . • Love Letter from the New Earth

Written by P aul of Venus, Mount Shasta Spiritual Guide and Healer Paul of Venus is the author of “The Sacred Rays of God” and founder of Mount Shasta Spiritual Tours. He serves as a bridge between dimensions, offering retreats, activations, and transmissions from the heart of Mount Shasta. Beloved ones, listen, not with the ears that have been guided away from truth for lifetimes, but with the heart that has never forgotten. Two realities are dancing upon this Earth right now, mirroring the sacred duality that lives inside every human form you have ever worn. This beautiful duality is a profound gift from the Divine, a sacred mirror held up so that we may finally see ourselves fully, embrace every contrast, every shadow, and every spark of light within our own being. Through this holy dance of opposites, we are gently guided home to the unity, the oneness that has always lived at the core of our soul. One reality is the normalized world you see on every screen and headline, the world that accepts what feels heavy, that calls certain patterns progress. The other reality is the living Republic of Light, the shining star that Saint Germain himself seeded when he stood in the room in 1776 and would not allow the quills to remain still. The Declaration of Independence was never a political document. It was a cosmic contract, signed under the pressure of an Ascended Master who refused to let the flame of liberty dim. America is Atlantis reincarnated. Yes, I said it, and I say it with the full power of the Venusian frequencies now pouring through me. Everything you were ever taught in those dusty history books was woven through a different lens. Humanity did not crawl up from apes. You are star-seeded children of the One Infinite Creator, and this land, your land, was always meant to be the Republic of freedom and liberty, not the democracy of manipulated majorities. Certain veils of denser energy have lingered in positions of influence, illusions that have shaped what many once believed to be the full story. These are not the true essence as once perceived. They are the final echoes of Atlantis and Lemurian endings, and the many star colonies that once flourished upon this Earth before the great cycles turned. You have been guided away from the deeper knowing in so many ways. And yet, the light is winning. Just recently, I landed in a sacred place within this body on Earth, eyes wide open, heart fully anchored, while the old patterns gently dissolved. The New Earth is not coming. It is present now. Eternity has always been here. I bring these frequencies down through my body, through the ancient forests of Mount Shasta, where I walk each day, and I offer them to you so that those who choose may feel the power of God rising inside their own chest. Right now, the world is being cleansed. The veiled patterns and denser energies that have moved through collective structures and creative realms, the ways that have dimmed the pure light of innocence, these are being revealed and transmuted exactly as they were at the close of Atlantis. But shadow cannot stand before the flame I carry. Just a few weeks ago, I walked deep into the wild heart of these forests. I was filled with so much light that I went before the human and saw myself as love unchanging in the 3D body. This was the uniqueness of this landing within, and in that moment, I landed in a field of love so complete, so vast, so utterly without condition that the words rose like a vow from the center of creation itself. No matter what you do, nothing will change the way I love you. Feel that with me now. Let it sink into your bones. This is not a pretty idea. This is the living pulse of the New Earth. This is the same love that Saint Germain poured into the signing of that sacred document, the same love that refuses to let any soul be lost, the same love that sees every stumble, every shadow, every forgotten promise, and still says, “Come closer. I have never stopped holding you.” That love is the frequency of the New Earth. That is the alchemical key. Saint Germain, Planetary Logos of this beautiful blue planet, is turning in the lock of the third dimension right now. The Golden Age is not a distant promise. It is the living reality I walk in, and I am pulling you into it with every breath. New human abilities are coming online. New senses. New ways of knowing that have nothing to do with the programming of the mind. I ask you, right now, surrender everything to God. Stand in God’s power. Drop the need to fight, because you are not here to fight. You are here to be the frequency. The 144,000, the angels, the Ascended Masters, the entire Company of Heaven, they are with us. Those who have chosen to know the truth, not by intellect, but by the living Word of God and the Ascended Masters, will feel this. Mount Shasta is holding the new realms of light. Shambhala is alive within her. The Golden City of Sanat Kumara pulses through her crystalline veins. The Temples of the Sacred Rays of God are open and pouring their radiance into the third dimension through these ancient forests. I have walked there. I have touched the eternal. And I am bringing it to you. So I ask you, dear one, to do the only thing that truly matters. Go deep within your heart. Surrender all to God. Stand far away from the programming of the mind. Do not listen to the brain. Do not believe what it tries to make you feel. Just let go. Drop into the unknown vastness of your heart. And there, in that open, trembling space, you will meet the same love I felt. The love that says no matter what you do, nothing will change the way I love you. It will wrap around every part of you that has ever felt unworthy, every part that has ever hidden in shame or fear, and it will whisper, “You are home. You have always been home.” This is how humanity rises. Not through argument, not through any outer form, but through frequency and forgiveness. The evolution is not a battle, it is a remembering. The New Earth is already here. The Golden Age is already singing through your cells. And I am here, standing among these sacred trees, holding the door open with arms that will never close. No matter what you do, nothing will change the way I love you. Come. The light is waiting inside your own chest. America’s shining star is rising again. Atlantis is being redeemed. And you, yes, you, are the living flame. If the call of these ancient forests stirs something alive inside you, if you feel the pull to stand in this same field of unchanging love with me, I warmly invite you to join one of the sacred retreats I am holding right here in the living heart of Mount Shasta: Saint Germain Retreat : Step fully into the alchemical fire that seeded America’s Republic Shambhala Retreat : Walk the living Golden City that pulses beneath these trees Sacred Rays of God Retreat : Immerse yourself in the Temples of the Sacred Rays now pouring through the forest And if you wish to carry these frequencies with you every day, my book The Sacred Rays of God is now available on Amazon to guide you deeper into the living temples within: The Sacred Rays of God on Amazon With all the love of Venus and the eternal embrace of Mount Shasta’s forests, Your Brother in the Light. • How Neuroplasticity Helps Reshape Beliefs and Empower Lives – An Interview with Julie Farnsworth

Julie has been working within the mental health field since receiving her Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1993. Her primary experience in her undergraduate work was with survivors of domestic violence. After graduating, her work focused on childhood trauma with children in the foster care system. This led her to have a solid background in recognizing the impact that early childhood experiences have on mental health and relationships. Julie Farnsworth, Trauma-Informed Grief Coach What specific role does neuroplasticity play in reshaping a person’s belief system, and how does this understanding empower your clients to take control of their lives? When we are able to re-frame beliefs that we have carried around with us over the years, our brains can start to actually make new connections and essentially re-wire themselves. In order to be successful with this, we must be intentional and consistent in our practice. Doing something on a daily basis to re-train our brain is key. One simple thing to try is called re-framing thoughts and self-talk. Focus on the things that you think about and tell yourself throughout the day. Are you thinking negative things about yourself? A simple example of this would be instead of saying to yourself, “I can’t believe I did that, I always make mistakes!” Try this instead, “I learned something valuable from this so that I can do it better the next time.” It is empowering to know that we can do this for ourselves and that our brains can begin to focus on new positive information that we are flooding it with. This new input helps to literally provide a mindset shift. This, in turn, helps with our overall feelings of self-worth and wellness and helps us feel empowered to take control over our lives. How does your background in childhood trauma and attachment theory inform your approach to helping individuals heal from past experiences and improve their relationships? When we experience trauma as a child, our bodies and brains are designed to protect us. This can manifest in different ways as we get older and start to enter into relationships. Our attachment styles are formed based on our childhood experiences and how we were parented. As adults we fall into one of four different styles- secure, anxious, avoidant, or fearful/avoidant. The good news is that we have the capability of working on ourselves if we fall into any category besides secure. When we can recognize that we have an “un-healthy” attachment style, it allows us to reflect on who we are and what we are seeking in a relationship. This can be complex, but a lot of the same principles used to re-wire our brains are at play when it comes to healing from past trauma so that we can move into a secure attachment and healthy relationships as adults. What impact does trauma-informed grief coaching have on the healing process, and how do you guide your clients through grief in a way that leads to lasting transformation? Trauma-informed grief coaching is designed to help anyone who feels “stuck” in grief and loss. As a trauma-informed grief coach, I provide a supportive, nurturing environment that guides clients on a path of healing and provides them with the tools needed to take control of their lives back. At the end of a 12-week healing journey, clients have developed new skills and the realization that they can gain some gifts on the other side of their pain. We focus on honoring the loss and taking pieces of a person that you loved with you, while allowing space to work through and navigate complex emotions associated with trauma. Many different themes during the grieving process are presented along with tangible ways to channel grief into growth. How can understanding the neuroscience behind emotions and behaviors help clients break free from limiting patterns and create healthier, more fulfilling lives? When we understand how our brains work and have some knowledge of the neuroscience behind our thoughts and feelings, it provides a sense of control, especially when things happening in our lives can feel very much out of control. When we learn how we can work to change beliefs and thoughts that are not serving us, or are actually hurting us, it allows us to finally feel like we can break free of things from our past- things that have held us back, or made us feel less than, or that we just carried around believing about ourselves because somewhere along the way someone taught us to think this way. We can literally break free from these harmful patterns of thought when we know that our brains can change with new, positive input that we are giving it. Our brains start to make new connections and believe this information, and new channels are formed to contain it. The old patterns of thinking have essentially been re-framed and replaced with the new ones. How has your personal experience with loss shaped your grief coaching practice, and how does it allow you to offer unique insights to those navigating their own grief journeys? As a fellow griever, I understand first-hand the impact that grief and loss has on your life. I experienced the loss of my sister to cancer at the age of 40, but never allowed myself the time to grieve. I pushed it to the side and kept putting everyone else’s needs before my own. It was the combination of this and vicarious trauma from all of the years of providing care for others that put me into an awful state of depression. It took me a long time to come out of it, but when I decided that I did not want to live like that anymore and started to treat myself like one of my clients, I could start to feel a difference. I practiced all of the things that I had been telling my clients to do for years- journaling every day about things that I was grateful for, practicing positive self-talk and listening to positive affirmations, taking care of myself by getting regular exercise, enough sleep, and eating healthy, slowing down to notice things in my environment or in nature, listening to music, and trying new activities. After several months of consistently doing all of these things, I was feeling like a new, improved version of myself. This is why I am so passionate about helping others on their journeys. I know what it’s like to feel so low and that you are never going to feel better, that you will never feel any happiness or joy again. I want to share my story and journey with everyone that could benefit from it. Visit my website for more info! Read more from Julie Farnsworth

  • Why Change Doesn't Stick and How Hypnosis Can Help

Written by Evelyn Wang, Hypnotherapist, NLP & Mindfulness Trainer Evelyn Wang is a hypnotherapist, NLP, and mindfulness trainer who developed the Holistic Breakthrough Approach™, a method of subconscious coaching that helps people release limiting patterns, align with their values, and create lasting transformation in both personal and professional life. Every year on January 4th, the professional community observes World Hypnotism Day. It isn’t a national holiday, but I’ve always found the history behind it interesting. It was created in honor of Dr. Jack Gibson , who helped bring attention to the many uses of hypnosis, including its role in surgical anesthesia. His work points to something most people don’t think about, the mind has a much deeper influence on the body and behavior than we give it credit for. After 15 years of listening to clients talk about the patterns they can’t break, the goals that keep slipping away, and that feeling of being stuck without knowing why, I see this more clearly than ever. Most people aren’t lacking effort. They’ve already tried to fix things, adding more discipline, more structure, more awareness, and sometimes even turning to therapy, apps, or books, hoping something would finally click. And still, the same patterns show up. Here’s the thing. At a certain point, it’s no longer about trying harder. It’s about recognising what’s actually driving the pattern, because most of these patterns aren’t created at the level of conscious thought. They’re running underneath it. So when we try to solve them with logic alone, it only goes so far. That’s where hypnosis comes in. The moment she almost gave up I recently sat with a client who had reached exactly that wall. She was exhausted. She’d been doing “the work” for years, journaling, affirmations, and mindfulness. And instead of feeling better, she felt drained. When she did have a breakthrough, it was always the same story. The change was incredibly short-lived. She would have a great week, feel a flicker of real progress, and then, without warning, she’d be right back where she started. It was like she was doing everything “right,” but nothing was actually sticking. She said to me, “I think I’m ready to give up. I’m tired of working this hard for results that just evaporate. I just don’t think I’m capable of change.” She was at a breaking point. When someone feels that depleted, the last thing they need is a coach telling them to “try harder” or “be more consistent.” So we didn’t. We stopped the push. I followed her lead, asked a few questions, and let the session go wherever her system needed it to go. By the end of that hour, her entire energy had shifted. She said, “I actually have hope again. I really believe I can do this.” (This is a true story.) That shift didn’t come from a new strategy or a clever life hack. It came because we stopped fighting her subconscious and started listening to it. The subconscious is a partner When we decide to make a change, we often treat the subconscious like something we have to fight. We try to “reprogram” it, “override” it, or get rid of the habits that keep getting in the way. We talk about it like it’s stubborn or working against us. After years of doing this work, I’ve seen something very different. The subconscious isn’t the problem. It’s actually trying to help, even if it doesn’t look that way on the surface. It governs your habits, your emotional reactions, and how your body responds to stress. It holds the patterns you’ve been living from. And those patterns didn’t form to hurt you. They formed to protect you, based on what you experienced at the time. They work until they don’t anymore. So the procrastination, the self-sabotage, and the hesitation aren’t signs that something is wrong with you. They’re signals from an inner part of you trying to keep you safe, even if the situation has already changed. When you start to see it that way, something shifts. You don’t have to push against it anymore. This is the foundation of the work I do. Instead of forcing change, we start by understanding what’s already there. We create a connection between what you consciously want and what your system has been doing automatically, using the language the subconscious actually responds to. We do that using the language your subconscious understands, vivid imagery, genuine emotion, and the sensations you feel in your body. When you begin to work this way, change stops feeling like constant effort. It starts to feel quieter and more natural. It’s a bit like walking through a path that’s been overgrown for years. You don’t fight the forest, you just start clearing enough to see where you’re going. And once you can see clearly, you stop getting pulled in the same direction. Moving past the myth of hypnosis as “mind control” If you’ve hesitated to explore hypnosis because of what you’ve seen in movies or on stage shows, that makes complete sense. Hollywood loves to portray hypnosis as mind control sorcery, a way to turn someone into a mindless zombie who loses all sense of who they are. And stage hypnosis, while entertaining, is performance art. It’s carefully curated theatre, where volunteers are selected because they’re outgoing, highly suggestible, and willing to play along. Clinical hypnosis is something entirely different. When you step into this work, you aren’t “going under” or becoming someone else. You’re simply quieting the noise of your analytical, critical mind so you can notice what’s already there beneath it. Think about the last time you got completely lost in a great book, or drove somewhere familiar and realised you’d been on autopilot the whole way. That’s a natural state you move in and out of every day. My role is to help you step into that state on purpose. Because once you can do that, you’re no longer at the mercy of those automatic loops that have been running in the background, the negative self-talk, the stress reactions, and that stuck feeling that keeps showing up at the worst time. You start to notice them as they’re happening. And the moment you can see a pattern without immediately reacting to it, something changes. You’re no longer inside it in the same way. That’s really the point of this work. It’s not me controlling your mind. It’s you learning how your mind actually works so you can work with it instead of feeling pushed around by it. It’s time to do it on purpose You are already walking around in your own version of hypnosis every single day. The loop of negative self-talk. The automatic reaction when stress hits. That moment you freeze even when you know what you want to do. That’s your subconscious running a program on autopilot. The question isn’t whether hypnosis works. The question is, are you using it intentionally, or are you letting it run you? If you’ve been feeling like you’re circling the same patterns, I want you to know this: You aren’t broken. You’ve just been trying to solve a subconscious problem with conscious effort alone. When you learn to move into a state of focused, intentional attention, you’re not escaping reality. You’re finally seeing the patterns that have been shaping it. And once you see them, you’re no longer stuck repeating them. You start to feel a sense of direction again, clearer and steadier. Like you can actually move toward what you’ve been wanting, instead of circling the same loops. You don’t need to be fixed. You just need to learn how to listen to yourself. That’s where real change begins. Ready to stop circling the same patterns?
