Have you ever heard the saying, "Seeing is believing"? It's a catchy phrase that took off in the 1980s, thanks to Crazy Eddie, an electronics retailer who claimed his prices were so low they were "insane!" The idea behind this slogan is that you need to see something with your own eyes to truly believe in its value.

But here's where it gets interesting, this mindset of believing only what you can see shapes how many of us navigate through life. We often place our trust in tangible evidence and the external world around us, forgetting that the reality we experience is just a reflection of our internal beliefs and perceptions. So, let's dive into this idea and explore its implications from a spiritual standpoint.
Spirituality and conscious creation
In various spiritual traditions, such as New Thought Spirituality, Kabbalah, or even biblical teachings, there’s a powerful belief, by having faith in the Creator or God and acting on that faith, we can actually shape our reality. Think of it like this, before something can manifest in your life, you need to fully believe in it, just as naturally as you know and believe that the sun will rise tomorrow.
This idea flips the “seeing is believing” narrative on its head. When you cling to the perspective that you must see something to believe in it, you inadvertently hand over your power to external circumstances and your physical senses.
On the other hand, if you embrace the idea that belief comes first, you open yourself up to experiencing those beliefs in the physical world.
Moreover, many spiritual teachings emphasize that it is belief that brings possibilities into existence. This means our emotional and spiritual states can influence our perceptions at any given moment. When we encounter situations we don’t prefer, it’s often about the lessons we’re meant to learn through those experiences.
Why this is important
Understanding this is crucial because it is within those lessons that we must move forward with faith, certainty, and clarity. By doing so, we expand our souls and grow as individuals.
You gotta have faith and trust
Faith is the cornerstone of a fulfilling spiritual life. It’s not just about blind belief, it’s about having deep trust in the divine and the unseen. Walking in faith means staying true to your beliefs, true to yourself, and true to what you know you are meant to experience, regardless of what’s happening around you. It’s about trusting that everything is working out in your favor according to the divine plan. But let’s be real for a moment, why is it so hard to maintain that faith?
Life has a way of throwing us curveballs, and when things don’t go according to our plans, our personal plans, not necessarily the divine plan, we can start to feel doubt, worry, or fear. These emotions can create a disconnect from our true selves and from the divine, making it more challenging to hold onto faith in what is truly meant for us.
When faced with disappointment or uncertainty, many of us try to take control of outcomes to shield ourselves from feelings of sadness or rejection. However, this approach can lead to more stress and anxiety.
Navigating life’s ups and downs
It’s essential to recognize that sometimes things won’t go your way, or at least it may seem that way. Delays and detours are a natural part of life, and this is precisely where your faith needs to remain strong. The Creator doesn’t want you to control every aspect of your life. Instead, He wants you to trust that your prayers are heard and that your journey is unfolding just as it should.
If we base our current experiences solely on past experiences, we risk viewing our faith through foggy glasses, limiting our ability to see the bigger picture.
Shifting your emotional state to stay faithful
So, how do you shift your emotional state to maintain faith? There are various methods, but one of my favorites is meditation. Meditation helps quiet the mind, allowing you to hear your inner voice more clearly. It enables you to set aside expectations, outcomes, and past experiences, letting you reconnect with yourself and something greater than you.
When you practice meditation regularly, you shift your emotional state energetically. You begin to trust that the things meant for you will always find their way to you. You start moving through life with faith rather than fear, and suddenly life flows effortlessly. You find joy in the present moment and begin to appreciate the gifts that life has to offer.
There’s no rush to get anywhere. Instead, you’re savoring each moment and realizing that faith in something greater is precisely what you need to experience the richness of life right now.
The bottom line
In essence, trusting what you’re meant to experience in life is why “believing is seeing.” By shifting your perspective from seeing first to believing first, you open yourself up to a world of possibilities. So, the next time you find yourself struggling to trust in the unseen, remember that you have the power to shape your reality through faith and belief. Embrace the journey and watch your world transform.
