Gentleway Systems provides a revolutionary approach to workplace violence prevention training. Focusing on practical, easy-to-remember techniques, it equips healthcare staff with the skills they need to handle crises effectively, ensuring both staff and patient safety. With an innovative combination of live coaching and cutting-edge VR technology, Gentleway offers a training solution that transforms how teams manage real-world emergencies.

It’s about the learners

At the end of the day, the real measure of any workplace violence prevention program is not the binder on the shelf, the certificate on the wall, or the brand name behind it. The measure is the learner, the nurse, tech, aide, or manager who must apply the training anywhere, anytime, under real pressure.

Gentleway was created with one bottom line, learners walk away with skills they can use immediately, under stress, in any setting. When staff are confident and equipped, the patients themselves remain safer, calmer, and better cared for.

Words that actually work

Many programs say they “focus on de-escalation.” But what words really work? Too often, staff are told to “just calm the patient” or “use your tone”, without practical tools.

Gentleway equips learners with Judo Lingo, simple, respectful phrases rooted in presence, tone, and timing. These are easy to remember, proven effective in real-world crisis care, and uniquely designed to preserve both dignity and safety.

For patients, this means that instead of confrontation, they experience understanding, respect, and care, making them more likely to comply, less likely to escalate, and more likely to walk away safe.

Training must begin in person, with new technology coming soon

True safety skills cannot be learned through slides alone. That’s why Gentleway requires the initial training to be in person. Learners practice stance, presence, communication, and minimum-effort safety skills under live coaching.

Currently, we are also exploring partnerships with technology companies to supply virtual reality (VR) training tools. This innovation is incredibly new and promising, offering immersive crisis scenarios that can dramatically improve the learner’s experience and retention. When combined with Gentleway’s live coaching, VR will give learners both realism and safety in practice.

One step physical skills

As a longtime Martial Arts Instructor, I know firsthand that under stress, people don’t remember long sequences, they remember what is simple and practiced. That’s why Gentleway’s physical skills are designed around One Step.

These techniques are extremely easy to learn, practice, and recall, even in the heat of a crisis. Staff can apply them instantly to maintain control, protect themselves, and keep patients safe, all while preserving dignity and minimizing harm.

Patient safety comes first

Every intervention taught in Gentleway is built on one principle, patients remain safe, respected, and dignified. Staff learn not only to protect themselves, but also to avoid retraumatizing or injuring the very people they serve.

And here lies the benefit of the benefit, when patients feel respected, they are more likely to calm down quickly, comply without force, and leave the crisis feeling safe and cared for. This reduces repeat incidents and builds trust between patients and caregivers.

Final thought

What sets Gentleway apart is not just compliance, nor branding. It’s the learner experience, skills that are simple, memorable, and proven. With Judo Lingo, in-person foundations, patient-centered principles, and One Step clarity, Gentleway ensures that when staff walk out of training, they are ready to protect both themselves and those they serve.

And for patients, the benefit is clear, they remain safe, respected, and leave the crisis feeling dignified and cared for.

Because in the end, safety isn’t about programs. It’s about people.
