A lead magnet is the most effective way to attract your ideal client and get them into your email list, so you can nurture them and get them to buy something from you.

The three-fold purpose of a lead magnet is to:

1. Attract your ideal client

A fabulous lead magnet attracts people into your world. When your lead magnet solves a particular problem for your ideal client, it hooks them in and gets them interested in what you’re offering.

2. Build a relationship with them

The lead magnet helps you connect with your audience and build a relationship with them so they’re ready to take the next step with you. It positions you as the authority in your niche and conditions your ideal client to trust you with their needs.

3. Get them to buy from you

Once you have people in your email list who trust you and know the value you provide through your free resources, it’s easy to convert them into paid clients. You can prime them through regular interaction and then start pitching your products and services.

The Winning Formula for a Great Lead Magnet

So what makes a great lead magnet?

Here’s the winning formula…

Value + Action => Results => Transformation => Your Offer

Let’s look at each component in detail.

1. VALUE

It’s the amount of value you provide through your lead magnet that determines how many people will sign up for it. You should have clarity on the pain points that your ideal client is facing and try to solve at least one of them through your lead magnet.

When your lead magnet idea focuses on addressing a key problem that’s troubling your audience, they will know that getting your lead magnet would be quite valuable for them.

Look at how you can provide tons of value through your lead magnet. That’s the first element that makes a great lead magnet.

2. ACTION

Now that you have a highly valuable lead magnet idea, it’s time to deliver on that value by providing actionable steps that your ideal client can take to solve the key issues troubling their life or business.

The key word here is action. Your lead magnet must have specific steps and measures that your ideal client can take action on – which will give them the transformation they seek.

3. RESULTS

The value you provide through your lead magnet, when combined with the action your ideal client takes, will lead to amazing results in their lives.

They can see for themselves that when they take action on what they’ve learnt through your lead magnet, it adds value to their life and they get their desired results.

4. TRANSFORMATION

Once they start seeing results through your lead magnet, this will cascade into a major transformation in their life or business. This transformation would not have happened if they hadn't signed up for your lead magnet.

This is the big moment when they realise that what you’ve given them has indeed changed their life for the better and they will be open to receiving more helpful resources from you.

5. OFFER

When your ideal client can see the transformation you’ve provided them through your lead magnet, it puts them in the perfect position to hear all about your offer.

They've already taken the first step with you by signing up for your lead magnet. They received immense value from you and took the required action.

They got great results and have now experienced the transformation you can provide. Now, they’ll be ready to take you up on your offer and glide to the next phase of working with you as a paid client.

This is pretty much a straightforward process where your ideal client starts believing in you and also in themselves. At this point, they’re quite convinced that your offer is what they need next in their life.

Consider the progression you’re leading them through and make sure that it’s all tied in. The lead magnet you provide at the onset must be related to the offer you’ll eventually be pitching them. Only then will your lead magnet serve its intended purpose of attracting your ideal client, nurturing them, and getting them to buy from you.

If you make sure that your lead magnet follows this winning formula, you can be assured that your subscribers will be mentally and emotionally ready to continue working with you!

In closing, I must mention that a litmus test for a great lead magnet is whether you love it or not.

Put yourself in your ideal client’s shoes and imagine how you’d feel to receive such a lead magnet.

  • Do you love the lead magnet?

  • What feelings does it invoke?

  • Would you be excited to sign up for it?

When you’re happy with your lead magnet and proud of what you’re providing through it, you’ll be confident to share it with others who need it and build your email list with people who’ll eventually buy from you.
