Understanding the Authentic Healer in Me

Denise Kingsley-Jones is an entrepreneur and philanthropist from the UK and well-known as a healer, wellness expert, and writer. Denise worked as a writer and editor of a wellness magazine and incorporated spirituality in her pages. Then, writing for a newspaper, Denise had a centre for spirituality and healing and took holistics into big business.
Upon reaching old age, ok middle-age, I turned around and saw the younger, vibrant, energetic thought leaders behind me. I still was not ‘out there’ as a thought leader as such, but had been practicing healing, Ǫuantum, holograms, energy work, manifesting, business development, holistic coaching, mindset coaching, and public speaking for over thirty years. Having studied with quantum physicists, attending medium events, the Dalai Lama speaking, Buddhist classes, Reiki Masters, you name it, I should have been ready a long time ago to find my voice in the field.
Having won public speaking prizes, legitimate business awards, and been in the Associated Press, I still was not well known. Yet, those twenty years younger were and certainly had the followers, the so-called credentials and mindset to succeed, whilst proudly telling others, but were these partnerships mainly bought and created by them? Are they authentic, and does it matter under the glossy exterior? Do they have a lifetime of experiences and black holes they have been sucked through, and do they teach from experience, not just the one time their business went wrong?
The questions I started to ask myself were because I tried them all. All the thought leaders, trends, and how-tos did not work. I spent thousands of pounds on courses to develop myself, healers to heal me, even though I was one, and experiencing promises their shiny marketing proposed. A very ‘important’ company told me I could heal myself from anything with their very expensive course, and when I decided to pay extra for a personal session, the person scolded me when it did not work at all, ‘what do you expect when you have an autoimmune disease?’ They changed their marketing when I pointed out their promises of a cure and are still charging thousands.
The minefield of personal development and quantum world, theta, delta waves, manifesting, energy alignment, meditation, activation, and so on, works on many but not on all. I know I have tried them all.
I have worn the proverbial spiritual clothes, pearl, gemstone, headbands, feathers and all the garb but really, I wanted to be me a Spiritual Teacher. I still wear them, but for myself, rather than to show how spiritual I am. I finally realised that everything comes from within, even though journeying through the yogi’s, Seth material, and so forth told me this, and it was all about the beliefs we hold within.
I feel genuine, but when people are accused of regurgitating the law of attraction, where did it come from in the first place? The Secret was a massive hit but I come from the thought leaders I studied in philosophy Socrates, Descartes, Aristotle, Kant, Locke, I can build you a government, I could build a world government with my studies, history and politics degree, business post-grad degree and international relations masters, migrant seminars, welfare, benefits and housing, Hate crime training but I stopped at the Doctorate and have completed many minicourses.
Healing story
I should have a sturdy background, and my becoming a healer story was quite fascinating to me, a history/politics student who did not believe that the sun god ever crossed the sky. That’s when healing found me at around the age of 18.
I was at home when I answered a knock at the door, and an older man stood there delivering flowers. They were for my younger sister’s birthday, and as the guy looked like he was about to melt in the heat, I invited him in and gave him some cold water. He was so grateful and proceeded to tell me his flower shop is about to close, but it's ok, as he is becoming a healer, a medium told him so. I thought this was a bit bonkers, but I listened and nodded before he left, showing me his healing hands. Then, my friend bought me a book by Betty Shine, the healer, and this powerful woman became an inspiration, but I still did not think it had anything to do with me.
I was sitting at my maternal grandma’s when I thought she didn’t look right. I asked her if she was ok and she answered, ‘I am in pain, it’s my arthritic cheek, darlin’ as she used to say in her strong East End of London accent.
I asked if I should call the Doctor, it looked at least double the size, and she was in pain. As I sat there helpless, I wondered what to do.
“Go and help your grandma,” a loud voice boomed in my ear.
What the hell, am I hearing voices now? I thought.
I just sat there, thinking I'd better call the Doctor for myself, and then the voice boomed again, saying the same thing with a strong East End, London accent, sounding like my warm and funny great-grandfather. My grandma’s father, who had passed away a few years before, and who outlived both my grandfathers.
My hand started shaking, and I felt warmth in my sweaty palm. I stood up based on instinct and said ‘Nana, I need to put my hand on your cheek, you gotta humour me here.”
Heat shot out of my hand, and Nana yelped as she felt it burn, but it went away just as quickly as it arrived. ‘Ooh, my father used to do that and put his hands on my leg (she had broken it in 3 places from a car accident and it had never healed as the hospital administered pins of steel and Nana was allergic).
My jaw dropped as that’s whose voice I had heard. That moment changed my view on everything from then on, piercing my reality of the past, studying history, philosophy, politics in this real,m and going way beyond. Perhaps there was a sun god after all, I thought.
What I have learned is that we cannot promise a healing miracle for chronic disease, especially. When my grandma’s cheek went down later that evening, I was very surprised and ran around trying to heal anyone who would let me, in the end, the dogs did not mind!
As time went on, and my parents thought I had lost my way and joined a witch’s coven, ‘no offense to those who do’, there were lots of people to heal. For example, attending a police conference for domestic violence for work, a police officer felt very unwell and collapsed, so I ran to help him without thinking to call the paramedics. They eventually arrived, but the healing had been done, and he was sitting up, drinking sweet tea, much to the astonishment of everyone around us and Sky TV, who were recording. They did not know what they had witnessed!
Another time, an elderly lady collapsed in the street when a young lad knocked her over with his bike. I rushed around the corner to the layby and helped her sit up, where she was in obvious distress. I gave healing straight away, and in her confused state, she told me she was on her way to her sister’s. In the days without cell phones, I ordered the young boy to run to her sister’s as we could see her house, up the street. An ambulance came, and the two climbed in, but her sister came back out to ask my name and details in order to thank me. I said I just wanted to help, and they drove away shouting an angel had come to save her. I just think anyone would do the same and have done so in similar circumstances or more pressing environments.
I had plenty of healings that really helped people, and found I could push people’s souls back into their bodies if they were not ready to go. My mum told me this when she fell off her step ladder dusting and was not breathing. It was as if I had pushed her soul back into her body. I had gotten out of the shower and dressed quickly when I heard her. I gave her healing whilst calling the ambulance and then waited outside in the cold for it to arrive as they were down a rural driveway. Mum was fine, and I wished I could have done more to save her before she passed away, 5 years ago.
Finally, some successes with major head traumas, in particular, knocks to the head, but another elderly lady fainted at a party. I gave her healing, and she sat up really quickly, then stood to go back to dance. We made her sit down and brought water, but a woman had seen what I had done and was very intrigued. She followed me into the ladies and asked me if I could come to see her husband, who was sitting at home after a stroke and was not moving or speaking.
I went the next day and after putting my hands on his head felt an electrical charge like a lightning strike where, from sitting unable to talk or move, he suddenly exclaimed, “I felt that!” He was driving within a week, and he and his wife said it was nothing more than a miracle. Shame I cannot do that with my own pancreas when diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
I was healing for several years and visited a crystal shop where I spotted an advert for Reiki and enquired what the difference was between the healing I was doing and Reiki.
The owner told me it was like healing, but on steroids. I went to the Reiki One weekend and never looked back, training to become a Reiki Master, my reality of what was possible changed so much. I was going to a wedding and told not to touch a drop of alcohol as a social drinker I was incensed! However, I did not need it and never touched it again, and the cold I had had disappeared that night.
The present
I have recently been healing my beautiful Labrador Luna, who ran into the window of our new holiday home. I wrote down the exact requirements I wanted in a home for us, as we are renting, due to issues we had with our last home in Wales, UK. I stated I wanted a balcony, sea view, and a pool; that was it. Living on the beautiful Welsh coast, this should have been an easy one to manifest as we had been looking for one, but something went wrong with the sale. I then received a random phone call from Devon about my holiday home enquiry!
‘What enquiry?’ I asked. The rep explained my enquiry had reached them, and although I was confused as to how, we were on our way to Devon to check out their holiday homes that weekend. We went private in the end after finding a beautiful lodge for sale with a sea view, a balcony, and two pools on site! The universe came up trumps there!
However, our poor Luna did not realise the glass door was shut and ran straight into it. Healing has been slow with lots of alignment to be done, and some sticky stuff always comes out on my hands. She is resting now with her brother, Coco. I still have not manifested our new home in Wales, but trust it will come, and I am making notes now!
I am relaying these stories as my authentic self and not from my ego, as there is always hope. We can connect to our true selves and live more authentically.
Thought leaders have done amazing things, and I certainly do not aim to put anyone down for their youth and vitality, but let’s just say we were the trailblazers regardless of the gloss and promises of finding your greatness. Although they do understand TikTok, Snapchat, and social media much better than I do!
