Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.

Hello! I’m delighted to be an Executive Contributor at Brainz! Thanks for inviting me to this role! I am someone who loves to share ways for people to live happier, more fulfilled lives and Brainz gives me the opportunity to reach even more people.

My journey to this time in my life and career has been an interesting and varied one. With a degree in Psychology, I started out working with Military members, teaching stress management, communication skills and substance abuse prevention. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and as a facilitator I learned to hone my therapeutic skills. With military members of different ranks and backgrounds I was able to really learn to listen to understand and communicate to be understood. This core learning has served me throughout my career.

After having children, (a daughter and then boy/girl twins!) I was lucky to be able to be at home with them and shifted my career into my other passion – Art!

I began doing commissioned paintings and teaching art as a flexible and rewarding career while still being an “at home mom”. I became recognized regionally and was even named a top arts instructor by an independent reviewer, “Expertise Magazine”. I was also featured with others in the book “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic”. It was fun and rewarding work, that I continue to do.

In 2012, my focus shifted back to the area of psychology, as my children were older, and I found an opportunity to become certified as a Hypnotherapist. There was a lot of synchronicity going on with that choice! I usually would take a portrait and figure workshop in the early spring, but that year, I was teaching painting during the time. A card arrived in the mail advertising a training for Certified Hypnotherapist to take place at the Edgar Cayce Center in Virginia Beach, VA, and it happened to be when I was on a break from teaching courses. I’d never even considered hypnosis, or tried it, but I decided to go. Little did I know that would have such an impact on my future!

Following my certification, a passion for Hypnosis flowed forth, and I’ve continued to expand my study and certifications in the area of Hypnotherapy, Life Coaching and beyond, to another passion, metaphysical studies and exploration.

Interestingly, I feel the same joy in helping my hypnotherapy and life coaching clients, as I do when helping my art students achieve their desired goals. Seeing the shift, and pleasure they show is very rewarding to me.

What is your business name and how do you help your clients?

My business name is “Trans-Hypnotherapy”, but I also use just my own name “Desiree Holmes Scherini” I chose “Trans-Hypnotherapy” to reflect the focus of my work as “Transpersonal”, client-centered and “Transformative”.

My work with hypnosis clients is centered on their goals. It may be strictly “clinical” for a simple behavioral change (like nail biting for example) or, more often, I have clients come to me for deeper work. As a Transpersonal Hypnotherapist I help clients who desire to explore areas of spirituality, trauma, past lives and more.

What are your current goals for your business?

Currently I am working on some ways to expand my reach and work with more people through group work and online courses. I already have produced some online courses that are available or soon will be.

I often like to incorporate art into my work, using it for introspection, stress relief and meditation. For example, a course I have on the Humanity’s Team course platform is “Personal Mandala Making” that guides the student through the technique of creating a mandala, as well as has recorded meditation for using the process for personal intuition.

I also have a multiple session group course that I am developing that includes art, meditative practices, and education in the area of Manifestation. As I am also a psychic/medium I am always interested in helping others build their own intuition and connections.

I am also collaborating with The Wellness Universe for corporate and team needs. What would you like to achieve for yourself and your business in the future?

I love to create! Artistically, I would enjoy creating more metaphysical, meditative pieces, as well as continuing to teach that to others. I have written one book and have many others that I would like to produce, both for the readers’ personal growth as well as instructional for the hypnosis community on using some of my techniques. I also am looking forward to creating an audio book from the one that is already available (Journey to Joy – The Written Path, Illuminating the Way with Words”)

Tell us about a pivotal moment in your life that brought you to where you are today

Well, I went through a huge transition as my marriage failed. It was like a crash course in taking personal responsibility for my own happiness. It took longer than it should have! As a Hypnotherapist and Life Coach it ignited my passion to help others move through traumatic life issues more directly. That experience was the conception of my book. Which I wrote and shared with the hopes of shortening the “journey to joy” for others.

Who inspires you to be the best that you can be?

I would say my children inspire me to achieve and be my best. I want to be a good model for achieving personal success and happiness, while following one’s own heart and passion. Tell us about your greatest career achievement so far.

I’m very proud to be recognized by independent organizations as a top Hypnotherapist in Washington DC for several years now. This was based on several criteria, but particularly on reviews by my clients.

Being an international presenter for several hypnosis organizations has been an honor too!

I mentioned my recognition as an artist as well. I admit it feels good to get positive, unsolicited, and unexpected kudos for my work! The Organization that I trained with and am currently on the board of (National Association of Transpersonal Hypnotherapists) awarded me the “Outstanding Transpersonal Contribution” award in 2018 for my outreach through my YouTube and Podcast show “Intuitive Journey with Desiree” and my writing on the topic.

I suppose I’ve listed recognitions that stand for “achievement”, but if I reflect, I think my “greatest career achievement” so far is that I continue to learn and grow and have arrived at the level of Board Certified, Master Hypnotherapist, as well as gaining many other certifications. So, really, my greatest achievement is that I am a lifelong learner and focus on the words “so far” and I am still excited about what’s next! If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why?

Hypnosis is a proven, effective, and fast therapeutic tool, yet it still lacks the deserved respect it should have from the “mainstream” medical field. Also, many people don’t know much about hypnosis, or are even afraid of it based on erroneous understandings. I would like to see more out-reach and education to the public and medical field to raise the positive profile of the profession. This is another area where I would like to expand professionally by speaking to organizations and educating them on the benefits of hypnosis.

As a Life Coach, what is a piece of advice you have for the readers?

Value “who you are”. Get to know your own heart’s desire and follow it. Make room in your life for joy and allow yourself to be authentically you! I like to say, “Be like water.” It manages to flow around obstacles. You too can find your ease and flow when you allow it.
