If you're a successful business owner, you probably know how to wear the confidence mask like a pro. But what if I told you that even the most put-together individuals wrestle with their emotions behind the scenes? The business owners who seem rock-solid on the outside but feel a little lost on the inside.

Let's explore how this internal struggle can affect relationships, connections, and those simple joys in life that we all crave.

The confident facade

Picture this: You walk into the meeting room with your game face on, ready to conquer challenges left and right. Your confident stride and assertive demeanour make everyone believe you've got it all figured out. But guess what? Beneath that polished exterior, there's a whole world of emotions brewing, waiting for the right moment to be acknowledged.

When emotions take the backseat

You're juggling responsibilities, deadlines, and all the expectations that come with being a business owner. Who has time for emotions, right? So, you hide them away in a corner, hoping they won't disrupt the show. But over time, this emotional neglect can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your loved ones, and even the things you once loved to enjoy become a memory.

Relationship ripples

Those around you might be baffled by the seeming contradiction. "He's so successful and confident, what's there to worry about?" they might think. But inside, it's a different story. The emotional disconnection can lead to strained relationships, as loved ones sense a barrier and distance they can't quite put a finger on.

The impact on connections

The connections that once brought you joy – be it spending time with friends, enjoying hobbies, or simply having meaningful conversations – might start to fade. The emotional distance you've created can inadvertently push away those connections you cherished.

Finding the balance

So, what's the solution? First off, it's important to recognize that acknowledging your emotions doesn't make you any less of a strong, successful individual. It's quite the opposite! By facing your feelings, you're allowing yourself to be human, authentic, and fully connected.

Small steps, big impact

Start small. Allow yourself moments of reflection. Check-in with your feelings, even if it's just for a few minutes a day. Find someone you can confide in, be it a friend, partner, or coach, who can provide a safe space to share what's beneath the surface.

Reconnecting with the things you love

Remember those things you used to enjoy? It's time to reconnect. Whether it's a hobby, a leisure activity, or simply sitting down for a heartfelt conversation, these little moments can be a pathway to reconnecting with yourself and others.

Remember

You are not alone in this journey. It's okay to be a successful business owner and still struggle with emotions. In fact, acknowledging and embracing your emotions is a sign of true strength. So, take off the mask every now and then, and let your authentic self be seen.

By taking those baby steps towards emotional connection, you'll find a deeper sense of balance, stronger relationships, and a renewed appreciation for the simple things that make life colourful.

As a Coach, NLP Master Practitioner and Speaker, Chelsea has helped thousands of people remove the mask and discover who they truly are. At 18, Chelsea’s life changed overnight when she was raped. She was so ashamed and scared of what people would think she would hide it from everyone, pretending she was ok. Abusive relationships followed and as a result she developed OCD, severe anxiety and low self-esteem and was stuck in a vicious cycle. Eventually, through personal development, coaching and NLP, Chelsea transformed her life. And the very thing she was so ashamed of became her most powerful tool in helping people uncover their true strength and potential to create the life and relationships they want.
