Benin City, Edo State – December 2025 – On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, over a hundred secondary school teams from across South-South Nigeria will gather in Benin City for an experiment in modern wisdom. It is called "The Fusion Challenge," and it marks a radical departure from the traditional "memory-test" quizzes that have defined education for decades.

Supporting EDATECH, the Ministry of Education, and the Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria, this challenge is less about what individuals can remember and more about how they navigate the unknown. It is a live test of the virtues that move the world: Resilience, Collaboration, Creative Thinking, Vision, Planning, and the Power of the Start.
The wisdom of the village
At the heart of the Fusion Challenge is a return to the "modern village." Each team is an intergenerational unit: two students, a teacher (joined by their school leader), and a parent.
"We are moving the community back into the classroom," says Dr. Sylvester Juwe, the architect of the EDAT Quiz. "By putting a student, a parent, and an educator on the same team, we are proving that the future isn't just about better software–it’s about better conversation. We are testing how they think when the stakes are high."
Icons of excellence
To set the tone, the event will feature a lineup of Nigerian legends who have mastered these virtues on the global stage:
The explosive start: Olusoji Fasuba, the 2006 World Indoor Champion, joins the challenge to champion the Virtue of the Start. Globally recognized as one of the fastest starters in the history of athletics, Fasuba is the living embodiment of the "Drive" required to explode out of the blocks with confidence.
Resilience in duty: Chioma Ajunwa-Opara, Nigeria’s first individual Olympic gold medalist as a long jumper, ex-international football player and a retired high-ranking officer in the Nigeria Police Force, personifies the Resilience required to serve and succeed across vastly different worlds.
The power of collaboration: Three-time Olympic finalist Ese Brume and her world-renowned coach, Kayode Yaya, will be present to demonstrate that world-class success is never a solo journey, but a triumph of Mentorship and Collaboration.
Creative vision: Chude Jidenwo, a Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree and co-founder of Red Media and Joy, Inc., represents the Creative Thinking and Vision needed to build a human-centred future in a tech-driven economy.
Partnering with the algorithm/AI
The Fusion Challenge treats Artificial Intelligence as a teammate, not a shortcut. Using a unique Precision and Pace scoring system–modelled after the explosive discipline of a championship sprint–teams must use two specific AI tools:
The Digital Oracle: Teams can glimpse the AI’s prediction halfway through a question, forcing them to weigh the machine's logic against their own human intuition.
Baymax’s Analysis: A strategic lifeline that narrows multiple choices down to the two most likely answers, testing the team’s ability to refine information under pressure.
A legacy of purpose
More than a competition, the EDAT Quiz is a contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals–specifically Quality Education (SDG 4) and Decent Work (SDG 8). It is designed to equip the next generation with the digital literacy and critical thinking skills required for the modern workforce.
Registration is free and open now. Eligible secondary schools in the South-South region are invited to join the journey. The deadline to register is January 7, 2026.
