We’ve been taught to fear disease, but never taught how to heal. For decades, modern medicine has glorified external fixes, pills, procedures, and promises of control, while forgetting the body’s own brilliance. This thought-provoking piece exposes how the endocannabinoid system, the body’s built-in healing network, was erased from medical education and how reclaiming trust in our biology could redefine what true health really means.

A person in dim light extends a hand wrapped with glowing fairy lights, creating a dreamy, mystical atmosphere with blurred background.

When medicine forgot that the body was the cure

Every few months, there’s a new miracle headline. A new “breakthrough” drug. A new gene therapy. A new pill that promises to outsmart pain, depression, cancer, or the body itself. We applaud, we donate, we sign up for trials because that’s what we’ve been conditioned to believe progress looks like. More science plus more control equals more separation from our own biology.

But somewhere along the line, we forgot the most essential truth in medicine, the human body is the most advanced piece of biotechnology ever created. No lab, no AI, and no pharmaceutical formula can rival the precision, intelligence, and adaptability of the system you already live inside.

At the heart of that system lies something most people have never even heard of, the endocannabinoid system (ECS), your body’s built-in command centre for balance, healing, and homeostasis. Think of it as the fuse box that powers every circuit in your biological house.

Yet despite its discovery more than three decades ago, the ECS is still absent from mainstream medical education. Doctors are trained to prescribe drugs that hijack receptors, not support the network that regulates every single one of them. It seems we’ve traded self-trust for dependency. And it’s killing us, slowly, quietly, predictably.

The forgotten intelligence of biology

Your body isn’t a random collection of parts. It’s a living ecosystem, constantly communicating, adapting, and correcting itself. Cells don’t act alone, they work in community, exchanging information through biochemical messengers like endocannabinoids, hormones, and neurotransmitters. Every second, trillions of these interactions occur without you even noticing, regulating your mood, appetite, immunity, temperature, pain perception, and sleep. You don’t have to think about it because your body’s intelligence is older than your conscious mind.

Modern medicine calls that “autonomic.” Nature calls it wisdom.

But here’s what’s uncomfortable for many to digest, most of what’s been labeled as “disease” today isn’t genetic malfunction or bad luck, it’s biological confusion. A body that’s forgotten how to regulate because we keep overriding it with synthetic signals, processed food, chronic stress, environmental toxins, and pharmaceuticals designed to mute symptoms rather than address the root cause.

We’ve been taught to believe that healing means adding more, more tests, more drugs, more diagnoses. But the truth? Healing is often more effective with subtraction, removing interference, unnecessary intervention, and the very toxicities disguised as “treatment.”

Evolution’s best kept secret

The endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is the invisible thread holding it all together. It was discovered in the 1990s when scientists studying cannabis accidentally stumbled upon a biological network that exists in every human, mammal, bird, and even sea urchin.

The ECS is ancient, over 600 million years old, and it’s involved in nearly every physiological process in your body, immune function, pain modulation, inflammation control, energy balance, memory, and emotional regulation. It’s not just another “system” like the digestive or endocrine. It’s the master regulator of all the others, the internal conductor ensuring your heart, hormones, brain, and immune system stay in rhythm.

When the ECS is balanced, everything works beautifully in harmony.

When it’s depleted or dysregulated, what researchers now call endocannabinoid deficiency, the body struggles to maintain homeostasis. That’s when chronic inflammation, anxiety, autoimmune disease, hormonal chaos, and even cancer can take root.

So while the medical world keeps searching for new ways to “fix” the body, nature already built the perfect repair mechanism. You don’t need to download an upgrade. You just need to stop corrupting the software.

Once you understand this, you begin to see why the powers that be quietly erased the ECS from medical education decades ago.

The erasure of the endocannabinoid system

When researchers uncovered the ECS, it should’ve rewritten the entire foundation of medicine. It proved that the body comes equipped with an internal system designed to maintain balance across every organ, every cell, and every thought.

That discovery threatened an entire industry built on lifelong customers, not self-regulating humans.

Imagine training generations of doctors to understand that the body can heal itself, that cannabinoids made by the body (and mimicked by the cannabis plant) can reduce pain, modulate inflammation, and calm the nervous system.

There’s no profit in that.

So, the discovery was downplayed. The ECS was left out of medical textbooks. Purposely. By design.

Funding for cannabinoid research was restricted, and cannabis, one of the oldest, safest, and most studied medicinal plants, was demonized, criminalized, and labeled as dangerous, all while synthetic opioids and antidepressants flooded the market. This wasn’t accidental. It was orchestrated.

The medical establishment, heavily backed by pharmaceutical interests, had no desire to educate people on a system that made most of their products redundant. When you understand the ECS, you no longer fear your symptoms, you decode them. You start to realize that pain, fatigue, anxiety, and even depression are not random malfunctions, they’re feedback signals that your internal regulation system needs support, not suppression.

The business of sickness

The uncomfortable reality is that healthcare is not designed to make you healthy, it’s designed to make you compliant. An industry that profits only when you’re unwell has no incentive to teach you how to stay well.

If there were real motivation to heal, we’d see hospitals full of nutritionists, meditation rooms, sunlight therapy, and cannabinoid education. Instead, we see chemical intervention for every emotion, symptom, and sign of imbalance.

Big Pharma has mastered the art of managing disease, not curing it. They can mass-produce insulin, yet almost never guide diabetics on how to reverse Type 2 diabetes naturally, something I’ve personally helped countless people achieve through fasting, clean eating, plant medicine, and stress reduction. They can manufacture statins by the billion but won’t teach people how to lower inflammation naturally with omega fats, magnesium, hydration, and quality sleep.

And here’s the part they never mention, those same statins deplete the brain of essential fats, setting the stage for neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia.

They can create antidepressants that blunt emotion but ignore the trauma, toxicity, and nervous system dysregulation at the root of suffering. So instead, people become zombified, hooked on pills that numb their humanity. Their emotions flatline, their sense of reality becomes distorted, and their natural fight-or-flight response, the body’s built-in safety mechanism, is practically switched off.

In that state, you’re not healed, you’re sedated. And that can be dangerous because when your body no longer knows how to respond to real-world stress or danger, you’re living in disconnection, not balance. We have more drugs than ever, yet more illness, more mental instability, more autoimmune conditions, and more burnout than any other time in human history. That’s not progress. That’s one million percent profit.

CBD: The nervous system nutrient

When people hear “CBD,” they often think of wellness trends or internet hype. But cannabidiol (CBD) is as fundamental to human health as vitamin C, arguably even more. Why? Because while vitamin C supports the immune system, CBD nourishes the regulatory system that keeps every function balanced, including immunity itself.

So rather than reaching for vitamin C when our immune system is low, we should really be reaching for CBD, because it tops up the endocannabinoid system that keeps that immune function in check to begin with.

If you’re low on iron, you supplement. If you’re low on magnesium, you supplement. But when your endocannabinoid system is depleted, when your body can’t produce enough of its own cannabinoids due to chronic stress, poor diet, lack of sleep, trauma, or environmental toxins, we call it “anxiety,” “inflammation,” “insomnia,” or “low mood.” And instead of replenishing the deficiency, we medicate the symptom.

What most people don’t realize is that the human body already makes its own cannabinoids, known as endocannabinoids, to keep the system running smoothly. You’ve probably felt this without knowing it. That post-exercise bliss after a good run or workout? That’s not just endorphins, it’s your endocannabinoid system flooding your brain with anandamide, the “bliss molecule” that helps regulate pain, elevate mood, and promote calm.

The same feeling can come from meditation, breathwork, time in nature, even laughter or deep human connection. These are all natural ways the body produces cannabinoids, your internal medicine cabinet working exactly as designed. But when life becomes chronically stressful, sedentary, and toxic, that inner pharmacy slows down. The body struggles to maintain equilibrium.

That’s where CBD comes in, not as an external fix, but as a reminder to the body of how to regulate itself. CBD simply supports what’s already within you. It doesn’t override, it harmonizes. It brings your internal thermostat back into range.

So why has it been so heavily restricted, taxed, and tangled in red tape? Because it works, and it works naturally. It doesn’t get you high, it doesn’t destroy organs, and it can’t be patented. That’s the real problem for Big Pharma.

Oregano oil and turmeric don’t require legislative gymnastics, yet CBD, a non-toxic, non-addictive plant extract, is treated like a controlled substance. And for those of us running CBD brands, like myself, the story doesn’t stop there. We’re hit with ever-changing laws, conflicting regulations, and arbitrary restrictions at the drop of a hat, all while pharmaceutical companies openly market synthetic cannabinoids for profit.

Why? Because a population that understands how to regulate its endocannabinoid system doesn’t need a lifetime prescription or a pill for every emotion.

When science becomes a distraction

The irony is that modern science keeps searching for “the next breakthrough,” while the real one has been sitting inside us the entire time. We have mapped the human genome, built robotic surgeons, and developed drugs for every symptom under the sun, but we still haven’t solved the basics.

Why are people more anxious, inflamed, infertile, and fatigued than ever before? Because we’re not sick from lack of medicine. We’re sick from lack of balance.

We’ve confused complexity with intelligence. But the body doesn’t need manipulation, it needs support. Healing is not a technological race. It’s a return to biological truth.

Reclaiming trust in the body’s design towards healing

So where do we go from here? We start by remembering that the most intelligent medicine on Earth is not made in a lab, it’s made inside you. Your cells are listening. Your body is constantly recalibrating, repairing, and trying to bring you back into alignment.

Feed it real food. Give it sunlight, movement, rest, and peace. Support it with the plant allies nature designed, cannabinoids, adaptogens, minerals, herbs. And most importantly, trust it.

Because you are not a mechanical failure waiting to be fixed. You are a masterpiece waiting to be remembered. When we stop outsourcing our health to an industry that profits from dysfunction, we rediscover the truth, you were never meant to just survive. You were designed to heal.

The most advanced medicine on Earth isn’t synthetic. It’s biological. It’s intelligent. And it’s you.
