A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of joining a podcast roundtable with Brainz and an extraordinary group of women to dissect a quiet crisis unfolding across global business circles: the structural silencing of women’s physical and mental health in high-stakes environments.

Woman in a black top stretches both arms skyward against a clear blue sky, creating a calm, uplifting mood.

Whether we are navigating a corporate boardroom or building our own businesses from the ground up, we are often conditioned early to operate from a position of absolute logic. We learn to treat our minds as the master controllers and our bodies as mere machinery designed to execute tasks, beat competitors, and weather immense baseline stress.

But as an oncology PhD scientist who spent over a decade navigating clinical strategy and pharmaceutical leadership while raising my child as a single mother, I have seen the high structural cost of this disconnect. In the laboratory, we understand that a system under chronic distress eventually experiences systemic failure. In our lives, the exact same law applies.

When work gets intense, the business world silently expects women to carry an invisible, heavy load, to cope flawlessly, look unshakeable, and gently push aside the intricate physical shifts that come with different stages of life. As corporate leaders, we are expected to suppress our needs for the sake of the organisation. As entrepreneurs and founders, we carry the ultimate weight of absolute isolation, holding 100% of the risk, managing the safety of others, and feeling forced to project absolute success even when our internal reserves are completely empty. We are taught to manage our businesses, but we are rarely taught how to tend to our nervous systems. To step out of this exhausting cycle, the path forward is an invitation to choose to look within, breathe through external expectations, and find a path to reclaim yourself.

The evolution of the internal mirror

During our roundtable, a beautiful question emerged: How does the way we see ourselves change as we mature?

For many high-achieving women, the early chapters of our careers and businesses are defined by external hypervigilance. We look at ourselves through the mirror of societal expectations, considering how we should look, how we should act, and how stoically we should cope with high-pressure life cycle transitions, including building an enterprise or climbing a career ladder whilst choosing to build a family. This constant drive to meet external metrics forces the nervous system into a chronic state of fight or flight, trapping anxiety, exhaustion, and burnout directly inside the physical body.

However, true maturity alters the mirror entirely. As we navigate profound personal milestone disruptions and painful life transitions, we find the strength to dismantle the protective shield we have built around ourselves. We begin to realise that our bodies are not silent machines. They are highly sophisticated diagnostic interfaces. Every acute bout of exhaustion, every unexplainable shift in mood, and every somatic block is a piece of biological data. It is a gentle signal that we may be carrying historical family dynamics, generational blocks, or societal pressures that were never ours to bear, in addition to the anxiety of carrying the heavy load we have simply learned to accept.

This is precisely the deep, compassionate space that I support through CMF International. To help you reclaim yourself by bridging analytical scientific precision with advanced ancestral healing and somatic systems mapping, CMF International serves as a trusted global sanctuary. It is a soft space designed to help both founders and corporate leaders safely deconstruct these deep-seated behavioural, relational, and emotional constraints. When we choose to breathe through the noise, slow our internal pace, and drop the rigid identities forced upon us by professional expectations, we create the safety required to reclaim ourselves fully and come home to who we are truly meant to be.

What we must teach the next generation

If there is one profound piece of wisdom I wish I had understood earlier in my career, and one foundational truth we can teach young women entering the business world today, it is that your health is your primary piece of intellectual property.

We do not need to figure out our health in isolation through painful burnout. True wellbeing is achieved when we fully understand our body, mind, and emotions and how they impact our reality, success, and wellbeing. To be a successful woman in business, whether you are leading an entire corporation or scaling your own startup, is not about demonstrating an ability to endure unseen suffering. It is about cultivating an unshakeable inner safety that allows you to lead authentically as the woman you are.

Global operational research heavily validates this shift towards internal safety. Guidelines by the World Health Organization (WHO) surrounding mental and physical health in the workplace emphasise that professional productivity cannot be sustained through physical suppression or emotional stoicism. For me, this is one of the most reassuring aspects of somatic alignment. Listening to your body isn't a step backward from your professional goals. It is the very engine that protects your longevity as a leader.

As for male executives and investors, if it were your mother, wife, or daughter, would you expect them to meet the crushing pressures and expectations that other women in your corporations and startup portfolios endure? Just because it is seen as ‘normal’, it doesn’t mean it has to be accepted, and your role as an ally can truly make a difference now.

When business pressure intensifies, creating space for your health is not a luxury or a weekend retreat. It is a vital, self-honouring professional discipline. Through the premium advisory tracks and scalable small cohort immersions at CMF International, I gently guide high performers to actively decouple their identity from exhausting professional survival mechanics. It is simply about setting loving boundaries around your mental peace, regulating your internal baseline, and refusing to live a life that isn't genuinely yours. Let this season be your warm invitation to put down the invisible load, step out of the golden cage of external validation, and finally reclaim yourself.
