My Why For Doing What I Do – Exclusive Interview With Dolores Andrew

Hello, my name is Dolores Andrew. I am a mom of 2 sons aged 18 & 13 and a rescue dog Alfie who, God bless his soul, has anxiety issues after being in several rescue centers and homes in the first year of his life.

Growing up in the 80s there wasn’t the same emphasis as there are these days on going to college, and although going to college and perusing a marketing career was where my heart wanted to go, I followed my mother’s direction to do a secretarial course and get a job as soon as I could.

So, I dutifully put my marketing dream on hold and started what was to be an almost 20-year career in the legal world. The recession of 2009 was the catalyst for change when I lost my job.

Becoming assertive enough to pave my own path and find my voice to do so, has been a theme that has followed me through many experiences over the years.

I have learned that when we put our dreams on hold, swallow our emotions, and follow someone else’s path we are not living a life in alignment with our authentic selves.

Dolores Andrew, Holistic Life Coach & Corporate Wellness Trainer

How do you help your clients?

For the past twelve years, since leaving the legal world, I have retained in the wellness space. This was partly to find direction and purpose in my own life and to live more in alignment with my core beliefs and values. I now support others to do the same.

My passion is to support people navigate what can be, their sometimes-tricky emotional realm and show them how to work with their emotions rather than allow their emotions to work them!

When we realize we are not our emotions, I do believe we can change the trajectory of our lives.

And identifying the beliefs that fuel our actions is life-changing. It opens the door to real change.

We can lean into our beliefs and the attached emotions and become conscious of how much power we have over our life!

What kind of audience do you target your business towards?

My passion for working with the emotional realm was sparked in and around 2012/2013 when, while waiting for my son to finish school, I would watch the older children in the playground and see the dynamics that played out.

In these informative years, children are flexing their personal power, pushing boundaries, and learning what is acceptable and what is not.

In any group dynamic, we can identify many different personality archetypes. In the playground, I watched the alpha group, the children who considered themselves the “cooler” ones, and then the rest of the children would fall into various other categories.

Of course, not every child sees the value of being in the alpha group, it just isn’t in their genes, instead, they prefer to play with children who have similar interests to themselves. These are often the children who are more in their power, not being afraid to be themselves and not feeling the need to follow the crowd. Some children are born leaders, and this can be seen in their personalities from a young age.

Often quieter children will gravitate toward each other and form bonds.

For most children, they find their way and their tribe however, some children struggle to find where they fit in. They may find they attract unwanted attention or worse suffer bullying.

I began to study emotional intelligence and developed a tool kit for children to support them, wherever they were at. It is often hard when we are young to verbalize our feelings but once we give children that skill, they have a tool for life.

For several years I went around to schools introducing children to the magic of understanding their emotions through storytelling. Sometimes, I would read my published children’s mythological fairy tales and ask them questions afterward about what they thought the moral of the story was.

What are your current goals for your business? In the past two years, having worked one on one with clients for over ten years, I have started to concentrate more on the corporate world. I am qualified as a Trainer and am presently finalizing a European Mentoring program with Junior Chamber International, an organization I was Chapter President of in 1999.

For my corporate and business clients, I provide the Mindset Piece to employers who want to support their employees where they are at, realizing that a healing journey, is not one size fits.

Everyone has had their own unique experience over the past number of years and not everyone’s back story is the same.

Just like the tool kit I developed for children over the years, I have now developed tools for adults to support them in the workplace.

What would you like to achieve for yourself and your business in the future? My aim is to continue working with people and supporting them where they are at in their lives.

I am also in the process of writing a corporate wellness book and have a novel in editing mode.
