How discipline and trust shaped a world-class career in facial rejuvenation

In a world that often celebrates quick wins and overnight success stories, Dr. Mansher Singh has built his career on a different idea: long-term excellence.

Today, Dr. Singh is a facial plastic surgeon in New York City and the Owner and Medical Director of Mansher Singh, MD. He is known for facial rejuvenation procedures such as deep plane facelifts, neck lifts, eyelid surgery, and facial fat transfer. But his path to becoming one of the few triple board-certified surgeons in his field began long before he entered an operating room.

It started with discipline.

How Mansher Singh's early life shaped his career

Dr. Singh was born and raised in India in a family where medicine was a way of life.

"My granddad used to joke that he wanted a soccer team full of doctors," Dr. Singh says. "I was the 11th doctor in my family."

His parents were surgeons, and discussions about patient care were common in the household. Those experiences helped shape his understanding of responsibility from a young age.

At age 11, Dr. Singh attended a monastery-style boarding school where students woke up at 5 a.m. each day and practiced meditation before classes.

"The sense of karma and spirituality was embedded in us since childhood," he says.

The experience taught him habits that would later become central to his success: consistency, patience, and self-discipline.

The big idea that changed everything: Invest in excellence

One of the biggest ideas that influenced Dr. Singh's career was the belief that opportunities come from preparation.

That mindset helped him gain admission to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), one of India's most selective medical schools. More than 70,000 students applied for only 34 available spots in his class.

After graduating, Dr. Singh made another major decision. He moved to the United States to continue his medical training.

Many people would have been satisfied after earning admission to a top medical school. Dr. Singh chose to keep pushing forward.

He completed research at Yale School of Medicine, followed by general surgery training associated with Harvard Medical School and a plastic surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

"The journey so far has not been easy," Dr. Singh says. "I believe in the mantra of keeping your head down and working hard."

Why Mansher Singh chose facial rejuvenation surgery

During his training, Dr. Singh became fascinated by facial rejuvenation.

Unlike many areas of medicine, facial surgery combines technical skill, artistic judgment, and patient trust.

"Facial surgery is deeply personal, and trust is everything," he says.

That belief became the foundation for his career.

Rather than focusing on trends, Dr. Singh became interested in long-term outcomes. He wanted results that looked natural years later, not just immediately after surgery.

"My goal is to create results that look natural, elegant, and continue to age well over many years," he says.

Building a practice from scratch in New York City

After completing his training, Dr. Singh made another bold move.

Instead of joining an established practice, he launched his own in New York City in 2021.

It was a challenging decision. New York is one of the most competitive healthcare markets in the world.

Yet Dr. Singh believed another big idea could make a difference: patient relationships matter as much as technical skill.

"I define success in my practice by the long-term happiness and trust of my patients," he says.

That approach shaped everything from consultations to recovery care.

He became known for being highly accessible to patients before and after surgery, personally guiding them through the recovery process.

"Building trust, being present during recovery, and making patients feel heard and supported are just as important as the operation itself," Dr. Singh says.

What Mansher Singh has learned about long-term success

One lesson appears repeatedly throughout Dr. Singh's career: growth comes from humility.

Despite years of training and professional success, he still reviews his own work with a critical eye.

"I study not only the cases that went exceptionally well, but also the more challenging recoveries," he says. "I think honest self-evaluation is essential for continued growth."

That mindset has helped him continue improving while adapting to changes within medicine and patient expectations.

He also believes setbacks often create the greatest opportunities for learning.

"Success in surgery is not defined by perfection alone, but by how you respond when challenges arise," he says.

A career built on consistency

Looking back, Dr. Singh's career has been shaped by several big ideas: discipline, lifelong learning, patience, and trust.

None of them are flashy. None promise instant results.

But together, they helped transform a young student from a family of doctors in India into a respected surgeon in New York City.

Ultimately, Dr. Singh believes success is less about major breakthroughs and more about showing up every day with the right mindset.

"Consistency over time is what matters," he says. "Continue learning, continue improving, and continue earning people's trust."

For Dr. Singh, that simple philosophy has become the foundation of a career dedicated to helping people feel more confident while remaining true to themselves.
