How many times have you beat yourself up or told yourself that you’ll “start over on Monday” because of something you ate that was "bad" or "not on the plan" or "insert- your-guilty-pleasure-here"?

Shot of a young woman searching inside a refrigerator at home.

And did all that punishing help you to get back on track?

After years of working with women, I’ve come to understand that we have cravings completely backwards.

We think that when we’ve over-eaten or consumed something that we shouldn’t, it’s our fault, that we have no willpower, and that we’ve failed.

That's insane.

Do you know what will stop cravings and help you feel more satisfied and satiated?

Understanding your biology. Knowing how your body works. Figuring out why you're getting the craving in the first place. Then applying it.

It can be a number of things that are impacting your metabolism and then creating a biological response such as cravings. Cravings are just that biological response to something that you’re doing, including many of the following that I see women doing:

  • skipping meals, especially breakfast

  • not enough protein throughout the day

  • over-exercising

  • poor sleep

  • stress

  • too many refined carbohydrates

  • fasting the same way, every day

It’s important to understand that our appetite is ruled by hormones. If you are in your reproductive years and you have a cycle, your hormones fluctuate throughout the month and therefore, your caloric intake will also fluctuate.

This is why, if you’re skipping meals or consuming low-carb, all-day and every day, eventually, cravings will catch up to you because let’s face it…you’re hungry!

Your cravings will minimize if you understand how to bio-hack them in the first place and it’s a lot simpler than you think. And, here’s where I can help.
