Hey everyone! I’m Shaquin Thomas, owner of Soul To Table Catering and author of the cookbook, Cooking with Soul To Table which is on my website, and Soul To Table Soup which is available on Amazon. I also have a line of seasoning blends, sweatshirts, kitchen cookware, an herbal immunity tea, and more available on my site.

Please tell our readers what it takes to run a company within the food industry.

Shaquin: The food industry can be difficult but you have to stay focused and work diligently on building your clientele. Once you know your target audience, make sure you provide excellent service and even better food. Word of mouth is the best advertisement.

How has business been during the Summer? Have there been any challenges?

Shaquin: Summer is busy because people are hosting family reunions, and parties and it’s the perfect weather for weddings! Thank goodness there haven’t been many challenges like previous summers during the pandemic!

Congratulations on your marriage and wedding! What did you learn from catering your own wedding?

Shaquin: Thank you so much! I understand that it takes discipline and you should definitely plan. I wasn’t planning on catering my wedding until my mother insisted I serve more than cake. Gotta love moms lol! I learned that it truly takes a team of dedicated individuals to make the day perfect!

Are there any new books, products, or dishes coming out soon?

Shaquin: There is a new cookbook on the way and there are a few more spice blends that will be hitting the market in time for the fall!

What is on your mind that you think our readers should know about?

Shaquin: I appreciate the continued support, the likes, comments, and shares on all of my social media handles, and the readers who purchase my books and actually try the recipes‒all of that means the world to me! Thank you so much!

What would the entrepreneur now tell the aspiring business owner?

Shaquin: When you work a 9–5 job, you clock out. Being an entrepreneur, your time off work is when you’re asleep. If you wake up at 2am, you may check emails and respond. You may compose invoices at 7pm at your kid’s soccer practice. You have to be willing to be flexible and you most definitely must have a spouse that understands the sporadic work schedule. It’s all worth it when you can take an uninterrupted week-long vacation and unwind.

What else are you working on?

Shaquin: I am diligently working on content for an upcoming cooking show. This means new spices and of course new dishes. We all love to eat and we eat with our eyes!
