I had a business meeting with someone who I was considering hiring to be my accountant. When I showed up to the meeting, the first thing I noticed was the can of pop she was drinking at 10am and dark circles under her eyes. Throughout the meeting she continually cleared the phlegm from her throat and even quietly belched a few times. She looked un-showered, her hair was greasy and she lacked energy in the meeting. She may have been the best accountant in town, but I didn’t hire her because she didn’t show up in health and vitality.

It may sound judgmental, but HOW YOU SHOW UP MATTERS.

Have you ever been in a meeting and noticed people yawning? How about on virtual calls when you can tell instantly if someone looks energetic or looks like they just rolled out of bed? Are they looking sluggish or dynamic? Does their voice sound sharp and inspired or groggy and bored? Your appearance, how you dress and the energy you emit can be a deal maker or a deal breaker.

The common adage, “dress for success” is often used in the business world because those that do, attract business. The same is true when you eat for success. Every time you eat you have the power to influence your health and you increase your energy and the vibration you put out and into the world. People see and feel that energy and vibration and it makes a difference to your bottom line.

Your mental acuity, how well you sleep, your ability to handle stress, your emotional poise and steady energy throughout the day all impact how you do business. You want to hire people and work with people that function at a high level and what you eat will determine that level of vibration.

If you do not have a high value on your health but you care about your finances and business, begin asking yourself, how will prioritizing my health, making better food choices and having a nutritional consultant on my team increase my work and finances? How many accounts and opportunities have I lost as a result of not showing up in health and vitality? How will continuing to eat poorly negatively affect my business?

If you are a CEO of a company, how is the health of your staff? Are they showing up in wellness or are they taking sick days? Are they constantly taking coffee breaks for pick-me-ups or are they producing and creating with their own natural energy? The health and vitality of your staff undoubtedly correlates to the health and vitality of your company.

What you eat matters and makes a difference to how you think, function and behave. If you want to elevate your business you have to elevate your nutrition.

Here are a few examples of how you can elevate your nutrition to elevate your business:

  • Start your day with 1 liter of water to hydrate your brain and awaken your body. Drink another liter or two throughout the day to combat fatigue and stay alert, energized and mentally sharp.

  • Enjoy a Tulsi/Holy Basil tea that will support your adrenals. This will help you handle stress more optimally while energizing you and keeping your blood sugars stable throughout the morning.

  • Have protein, essential fats and vegetable fiber at breakfast to maximize your energy, create mental sharpness and satiate you until lunch. An egg and veggie omelet with a side of sliced avocado or a Superfood smoothie with protein powder, berries, kale, hemp seeds and 1-3 tsp of adaptogens, such as ashwagandha, medicinal mushrooms or maca will maximize your energy and help you be more resilient to stress.

  • Supercharge your lunch with a vibrant colorful salad loaded with antioxidants and added protein and olive oil. This will maximize your energy and prevent sugar cravings, mental sluggishness and mid-day fatigue.

  • To prevent the mid-afternoon slump enjoy a handful of nuts and a piece of fruit or a mug of bone broth or a rooibos tea to prevent stress and overwhelm.

  • Dinner can be another trifecta of protein, essential fats and vegetable fiber with any protein, a combination of two cruciferous vegetables (bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, kohlrabi, Swiss Chard) and a roasted root vegetable (yam, sweet potato, beets or squash) drizzled with ghee or olive oil.

  • End your day with a square of 90% dark chocolate and an herbal tea to slide yourself into a restful and restorative sleep so you can do it all again tomorrow!

Slight tweaks, additions and adjustments to your nutrition are all it takes to elevate your game and take your business to a whole new level, because how you show up matters!
