Leadership can feel like walking a tightrope. The demands are relentless, the stakes are high, and the pressure to perform never lets up. For high-performing leaders, resilience isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s a necessity. Without it, the weight of responsibilities can quickly lead to burnout. But with emotional and spiritual resilience, leaders can not only withstand the pressures but thrive in the face of them.

As I write in She Is Unleashed, “Resilience isn’t about avoiding the storm; it’s about learning to anchor yourself so you can navigate through it.” Let’s explore how faith and intentional practices can help you build resilience, stay grounded, and lead with confidence.

1. Strengthen your spiritual foundation

Resilience starts with a firm foundation in faith. When the challenges of leadership feel overwhelming, grounding yourself in God’s promises provides the strength to persevere. Isaiah 40:29 says, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” As leaders, we need that divine strength to carry us through.

A high-performing client I worked with, let’s call her Sarah, was leading a growing team while facing personal struggles at home. She felt like the demands of leadership were pulling her in too many directions which became overwhelming on multiple levels. By prioritizing daily prayer and scripture reflection, Sarah found the clarity and calm she needed to face each day with renewed focus. Resilience begins when you connect with God regularly, drawing on His guidance and peace.

Actionable step: Dedicate 15 minutes each morning to prayer or meditation on scripture. Let God set the tone for your day and renew your strength.

2. Cultivate emotional awareness and rest

Resilience isn’t just about pushing through tough times—it’s about knowing when to pause and recharge. Emotional awareness is key. Leaders often suppress feelings of stress or frustration, but acknowledging emotions allows you to process them and prevent burnout.

One strategy I emphasize in She Is Unleashed is creating “sacred rest moments” throughout the day. These intentional breaks—whether a quiet walk, deep breathing, or journaling—help you reset and refocus. Jesus modeled this beautifully when He withdrew from the crowds to pray, showing us that rest isn’t weakness; it’s wisdom.

Actionable step: Schedule three 5-minute breaks into your workday to pause, breathe, and check in with your emotions.

3. Build a resilient community

Resilience thrives in connection. Surrounding yourself with a supportive network of like-minded leaders provides encouragement and accountability. Ecclesiastes 4:9 reminds us, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.” Resilient leaders lean on their community during tough seasons.

In the She Is Unleashed Collective, members often share how being part of a faith-driven community has strengthened their resilience. Knowing they’re not alone in their struggles—and seeing how others navigate challenges—builds their capacity to persevere.

Actionable step: Join a faith-centered leadership group where you can share challenges, receive support, and grow together.
