Olivea Kazumi Shure, Reiki Master, Teacher, and Healer

Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.

Hi there! I'm a shamanic healer and Reiki Master Teacher, originally from the U.S. and now living in Okinawa, Japan. Alongside teaching, I offer my signature shamanic healing sessions called Mystic Medicine Healing, which is a unique blend of Reiki, intuitive, and shamanic energy work. I share these sessions virtually with clients around the world and in person through privately curated healing retreats here in Okinawa.

Outside of my healing work, I’m deeply nourished by nature and spend as much time as I can by the ocean or walking through the forest and visiting nature shrines. I believe nature is one of our greatest teachers, and when we truly listen, it becomes a wise and loving guide. I’m also passionate about ecstatic and modern dance, something I’ve loved since I was 10 years old. After graduating from college in California in 2006, I moved to New York City to pursue my dream of becoming a modern dancer. Dance ultimately led me to Reiki, and once I began my Reiki business there, I never looked back.

My maternal roots are Okinawan, and ever since I was a little girl growing up in the South, I dreamed of one day meeting my Okinawan relatives. When my healing journey brought me to visit Okinawa as an adult, I realized that everything in my life had been preparing me for that moment. Now, I live here and offer healing from this sacred island.

For fun, I adore a good sandwich and a milky tea. I’m happiest cafe hopping, watching movies, eating snacks, reading and writing poetry, and spending time with my loved ones.

What inspired you to start Reiki with Olivea?

My professional path truly began in my early 30s while living in NYC. I was going through a divorce and felt a deep and urgent pull to follow my heart. That’s when I found the courage to start Reiki with Olivea in lower Manhattan.

Before that point, I had spent nearly a decade immersed in the healing arts and small business training. My first job in the city was at a small healing studio in Chelsea called Infinity Wellness Center. I worked for a healer and his partner, mainly welcoming clients, cleaning and caring for the space, and doing admin work. It was challenging, especially as someone new to the city and to the business of healing, but that experience became the foundation of everything I do today. It taught me how to offer care, presence, and professionalism in an intentional and heart-centered way. I owe so much to that chapter of my life.

What can a first-time client expect from a session with you?

Above all, a first-time client can expect to feel loved! I’ve had a myriad of experiences with other healers, and I also spent time as a teenager in and out of military hospitals following a high-risk spinal fusion surgery. While my body healed physically, the emotional scarring never went away. It wasn’t until college, when I studied health psychology, that I began to understand how our emotional well-being is inseparable from our physical healing. I understood that the element of love had been missing throughout my life.

So in my sessions, love is the foundation. That’s the healing thread I always offer. To do that, I first anchor into loving myself through daily practice, meditation, and connection to the world around me. Only when I feel loved and grounded can I offer something truly supportive to my clients.

Most people are guided to me naturally, so consultations aren’t always necessary. But sometimes we’ll have a 15-minute call to get to know one another and see if we’re a good match. That moment of mutual resonance is important to create trust and a safe container for healing.

Do you offer any other modalities or services alongside Reiki?

Yes. My signature offering, Mystic Medicine Healing, is a deeply intuitive fusion of all I’ve learned over the years: Reiki, shamanic healing, and meditative insight. Before each session, I meditate on the client and send Reiki to prepare, so that when we begin, it’s a fully customized experience that evolves with the client’s needs over time.

In addition to private sessions, I also do my best to nurture the community. I offer Reiki Tea Ceremonies, Reiki classes, retreats, and group healing experiences, all of which can also be requested privately. One of the most accessible ways to work with me is through Daily Reiki. This is a remote energy offering where I send Reiki consecutively for up to a month (or longer). This can be especially supportive for those navigating chronic illness or major life transitions.

How has Reiki impacted your own personal journey?

In short, Reiki gave me a whole new life!

Before discovering Reiki, I was dealing with persistent low-key depression, chronic fatigue, and instability in many areas, including finances, relationships, and career. I was growing spiritually, but very slowly. Once I began practicing Reiki regularly, a new path gradually opened up for me, one filled with hope.

Consistent practice, combined with the guidance of my first Reiki teacher, helped me build courage. That courage allowed me to leave a marriage that had run its course and commit to my vision. Even though that was an incredibly lonely time, I felt strong enough to keep going. Since then, I’ve never experienced fatigue in the same way. Instead, I wake up each day with energy and a sense of purpose that’s not only positive but full of conviction and hope.

Reiki helped me move from simply having a dream to living it over and over again. And that’s something I don’t think I could’ve done on my own. I would’ve been far too afraid!

What’s one piece of advice you’d offer someone curious about energy healing?

This isn’t quite advice, but more of a gentle self-care reminder: surround yourself with people, spaces, and experiences that uplift and inspire you.

The reason I’m so passionate about Reiki is that it’s simple, and simplicity is powerful. My Reiki teachers in Okinawa remind me of this every time I forget. Reiki is a profound and simple way to care for ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. All we have to do is simply bring our hands to our bodies.

Find the right teachers, mentors, and friends who support your dreams. And when you find them, keep them close. They’re treasures. I’ve been fortunate to have found great teachers and mentors throughout every important stage of my life. I wouldn't be where I am today without them. I owe them everything.

And maybe it’s the New Yorker in me, but I’ll leave you with this:

Keep dreaming as big as you can!
