Suffering from a phobia can be paralyzing, casting a shadow over even the simplest tasks. Todd's story is a testament to the crippling effects of irrational fears but also the transformative power of Energy Psychology.

Woman doing EFT on the top head point.

Todd's journey began with a fear so gripping it controlled his life: a phobia of being stuck in traffic. The mere thought of it sent his heart racing and his mind spiraling into panic. It wasn't just about traffic; it was about the loss of control, the suffocating fear of the unknown. But conventional therapy offered no solace, leaving Todd feeling stranded in his terror.

Enter Energy Psychology, a revolutionary approach born out of a quest for healing. In the 1980s, psychologist Roger Callahan made a groundbreaking discovery while treating a water phobia patient. By tapping on specific points of the body, he unlocked a pathway to freedom, pioneering what would later become known as Thought Field Therapy (TFT).

But it was Gary Craig, an engineer passionate about simplicity and efficiency, who distilled Callahan's complex protocol into something accessible to all: Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). EFT offered a glimmer of hope to those like Todd, trapped in the grip of their fears. Even though anyone could apply EFT, more complex problems, such as severe trauma or phobia, are best treated with clinical EFT, which requires extensive training and experience of the practitioner.

EFT operates on the premise that unresolved emotional issues are at the root of psychological discomfort and that these issues can be effectively addressed by balancing the body's energy system. It combines elements of cognitive therapy, exposure therapy, and somatic stimulation to create a unique and powerful tool for healing.

When Todd sought my help, his distress was palpable, his suffering immeasurable. With an SUD (Subjective Units of Distress) of 9 out of 10, the thought of riding an elevator sent him into a tailspin. Todd tried conventional methods like gradual exposure or flooding, and they seemed futile in the face of such overwhelming anxiety. That's when we turned to EFT—to be precise, a specific technique in EFT that allows clients to confront their fears as if watching a movie, creating a safe distance to explore and heal.

Considering that Todd lived in Los Angeles and his company was on the 14th floor, he had no choice but to suffer through panic daily. He would escape traffic by staying longer at any location where he happened to be to avoid rush hour. However, anyone living in a big city knows that avoiding traffic that leads to a stop for a second is nearly impossible. Through a series of eight sessions, we unraveled Todd's phobias one by one. Elevators, traffic, airplanes—each fear dissolved under the gentle guidance of EFT protocol. It wasn't a quick fix, nor was it easy. But the results were profound. Todd emerged from our sessions with a newfound sense of freedom, ready to reclaim his life.

His first flight in years, a family vacation to Mexico, was more than just a trip—it was a triumph. His loved ones were shocked when he announced that he would fly with them, and they watched in awe as Todd boarded the plane, a beacon of courage and resilience.

Todd's story reminds us that healing is possible, even in the darkest moments. If you find yourself trapped in the clutches of fear, know you're not alone. Reach out, seek help, and take that first step towards freedom.
