Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.

I'm originally from Mississippi but now call Texas home. I moved here for college and ended up staying. My career started as a licensed practical nurse (or licensed vocational nurse, depending on where you're from), and I've had the opportunity to work in various healthcare settings including community health, private practice, corrections/jail health, and inpatient behavioral health.

Outside of my professional life, I'm a passionate foodie who loves discovering new restaurants and traveling to immerse myself in different cultures. I've recently taken up running, which I find enjoyable—plus, it balances out my love for tacos! Baking is another hobby I cherish; it's my therapy in the kitchen. Recently, I've picked up crocheting as a new interest.

Can you tell me about the founding story of Peace of Mind Psychiatric Services PLLC and the philosophy that guides your practice?

Peace of Mind Psychiatric Services PLLC was born out of a pivotal moment when I was unexpectedly laid off. Faced with a sudden career shift, I took time to reflect and pray about my next steps. I decided to take a leap of faith and build my practice rather than continue working for someone else. I drew inspiration from the resilience and strength of the women I had served, especially those overcoming significant life challenges. This motivated me to establish a practice dedicated to women's holistic well-being.

The guiding philosophy of Peace of Mind Psychiatric Services PLLC revolves around active listening and collaboration. I believe in creating customized treatment plans that align precisely with each patient's unique needs. Central to my approach is a commitment to avoid over-prescribing. By putting patients at the forefront and fostering a collaborative environment, I aim to empower women on their journey to mental health and overall wellness.

What types of psychiatric services does your practice offer, and how do you ensure they meet the diverse needs of your clients?

My practice offers a range of psychiatric services including medication management, lifestyle modifications, supplement recommendations, and genetic testing. I specialize in working with women aged 18-60 struggling with anxiety, depression, seasonal affective disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I also support women experiencing hair loss, particularly African American women with alopecia. I ensure that I meet the needs of my clients by offering personalized treatment modalities and utilizing an integrative approach.

How does Peace of Mind Psychiatric Services PLLC approach patient care differently from other psychiatric practices?

Peace of Mind Psychiatric Services PLLC distinguishes itself with an integrative philosophy towards patient care. Unlike practices that solely prioritize medication management, we blend medication with lifestyle modifications such as nutrition guidance, supplement recommendations, and stress management techniques.

But what really sets us apart is how we treat our patients. We listen carefully, show genuine care through our actions, and work hand-in-hand with our clients. It's about creating a treatment experience that's not just effective, but compassionate too. We are dedicated to a patient-centered approach that respects each patient’s unique needs and preferences.

In what ways does technology play a role in your practice, such as telemedicine options or electronic health records?

Technology plays a significant role in our practice by enhancing accessibility and efficiency. Telemedicine options allow me to reach patients who may not be able to visit in person, providing flexibility and convenience. Electronic health records streamline the documentation process and ensure that patient information is easily accessible and securely stored. By incorporating technology, we can offer a higher level of care and maintain better organization within the practice.

What are the future goals or expansions planned for Peace of Mind Psychiatric Services PLLC, and how do you envision the practice evolving in the coming years?

My future goals for Peace of Mind Psychiatric Services PLLC include building a group practice dedicated to women's wellness. I plan to offer additional services beyond mental health. This expansion will enable the practice to address a broader range of issues that uniquely affect women and provide comprehensive care.

Tell us about your greatest career achievement so far.

One of my proudest career achievements to date has been founding Peace of Mind Psychiatric Services PLLC. This endeavor pushed me beyond my comfort zone, yet it has been incredibly fulfilling. By establishing a specialized practice focusing on women's health, I've been able to make a meaningful impact on the lives of numerous women. I've helped them navigate mental health challenges and improve their overall quality of life.

If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why?

If I could change one thing about the mental health industry, it would be to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health conditions and treatment. I envision a world where mental health is as mainstream and accepted as physical health conditions like diabetes or hypertension. Despite significant advancements in understanding mental health, stigma remains a formidable barrier preventing many individuals from seeking help. By promoting education, awareness, and fostering open conversations about mental health, we can create a more supportive environment. This would encourage individuals to seek the care they need without fear of judgment.
